University Commemoration broadcast

In addition to the events listed below, a live broadcast of the University Commemoration ceremony at 10:30 a.m. on April 16 will be available for viewing for students, faculty, and staff at the following Virginia Tech centers around the state:

Tuesday, April 15

6:30 p.m. | Memorial Dedication
Northern Virginia Center, Falls Church, VA

The Northern Virginia Center will dedicate a plaque, mounted on Hokie Stone, to commemorate the dedication of a bench and tree in honor of the victims of April 16th. The brief event will include a harp solo, the tolling of a bell, and a moment of silence.

 

Wednesday, April 16

Virginia Tech Roanoke Center, 7th Floor Atrium, Roanoke, VA

Card's received from last year's counselor education students from regional elementary schools will be on display.

Virginia Tech Richmond Center

Please join us at the Virginia Tech Richmond Center for a gathering to honor our friends, colleagues, and family members in remembrance.

1:30 p.m. | Time of Remembrance Event
Marion DuPont Scott Equine Medical Center, 17690 Old Waterford Rd., Leesburg, VA

Virginia Tech Marion duPont Scott Equine Medical Center will host a time of remembrance event. A moment of silence will be observed followed by a violin solo and the release of 32 doves. A reception will take place after the service.

2 p.m. to 8 p.m. | VT Engage Blood Drive
Northern Virginia Center

In tribute to the lives lost on April 16th, 2007, The National Capital Region Virginia Tech Alumni Association will be hosting a tribute Blood Drive on April 16th. Representatives from the Red Cross will be on hand to take donations from 2-8pm at the Virginia Tech Northern Virginia Campus (7054 Haycock Road, Falls Church, Virginia). This drive will be part of the VirginiaTechForLife Campaign, a program launched by Virginia Tech which has spurred congruent blood drives in the month of April with Alumni Associations across America. 6 p.m. | Tree Planting Ceremony
Virginia Tech Hampton Roads Center

A memorial ceremony will be held with a brief, low key tree planting ceremony on our grounds. The tree is being donated by the Hampton Roads Tree Care Association and a plaque will be permanently installed in front of the tree.

Sundown (approximately 7:45 p.m.) | Candlelight Vigil
Northern Virginia Center

In conjunction with our Blood Drive on April 16th, 2008 we will be holding a candlelight vigil to honor those we lost last year. Please come to donate blood and stay for a reading of the names. Candles will be supplied.
