Condolences, April 20, 2007

I want to send my love and support from Lynchburg to the community of Virginia Tech.  We here in Virginia are not just a Commonwealth, we are a community.  A community that has been devastated by what happened this week.  We will stand together and love each other through this ordeal because right now, we are all Hokies!  Please know that you have the support of millions not only in Virginia, but all over the world.  May God bless, heal, and restore Virginia Tech.  We love you!

As a graduate from Tech in 1968 and resident of Blacksburg until 1971, I am deeply saddened by the loss of these members of our family. I still have ties to the region with my extended family who reside there. I plan to come “home” permanently in the very near future. Our departed family members will never be truly gone as long as we keep them in our hearts and memories.

God is in our Soul
Through hard times, hatred has taken a toll on our soul.  The society cannot become the breeder for hate. We must overcome the broken roads to realize God is in us. We are walking angels with a purpose to live, and to learn from life experiences. Misleader by anger and evil we cannot do. Nevertheless, we must face life in a completely different manner. Wisdom has kept me informed on daily life’s problems. My mission is to just live and walk with God himself.

There are no words to alleviate your pain and sorrow.  The very least that I can do is to let you know, not a day has gone by without thinking of you all.  Through the hard times, know there are friends out there for you.  Through the sadness, know there are people who weep for you.  Through the hurt, know there are people out there who wait the triumphant return of the great Virgina Tech.  I can only wish, over time, you all will find the peace, love and happiness you all truly deserve.

Hi. My name is Stacy and I live in San Antonio, Texas. I was very shocked and saddened to hear of this senseless tragedy.

Although I cannot imagine losing a child who is an adult, I have lost an infant; so I do know the pain that comes from the loss of a child. Even the faculty members are someone’s children.

I was visiting this site earlier in the week and saw that today, Friday, April 20, was to be a day to wear the school colors of maroon and orange. I want to let each of you know that I am wearing an orange shirt today, in memory of each of those you lost, and in support of the Virginia Tech family.

May God grant each of you peace.

To all you students at Virginia Tech,

All our thoughts are with you in these troubled times, and we hope you seek the comfort of each other during this hellish period, as a teacher I felt a great gaping pain from the first moment I heard this, pain that will not recede, pain for all of you who look to each other and to your teachers and leaders for words to express what has happened. Words that have to be uttered by all of us, we cannot cover this up with popular chants or team slogans..this needs a greater understanding and a greater depth of thought than we realise.

No more more guns...stand up politicians and take your responsibility...stand up and put an end to this misery that we face year in year out...stand up and speak

May all of your Gods go with you...may you have the strength and understanding to look to a bright future and a safe future for you and your children..

Dear Virginia Tech community,
My fourth graders and I have been praying for you daily after the tragedy that occurred on your campus earlier this week.  This noon we stopped our activities for a minute to pray for all of you.  One student named Lizzy wrote this verse for all of you:

If you lost a loved one, friend, or neighbor
Here’s some advice they’d want you to savor,
The someone you loved or someone you knew
Would want you to hear this too,
That person is gone from this planet, Earth,
It was God’s plan since the person’s birth
But remember they’re up in heaven, high above
Sending to you their wishes and love,
So don’t be too sad
And definitely not glad
For the person that you lost
Loves you at any cost,
They’re shining down on you
And someday you will join them too!

Too Quickly Gone

But in a moment
They are gone,
Before we even know
The gifts they bring
Into our world -
The lessons they bestow.

And only once they’ve left
We learn
What their loss has cost -
The gifts they carried
Inside their souls,
To us forever lost.

We can never fathom the loss to all humanity of these bright young promising souls, and what they might have accomplished for all mankind. But their dreams and gifts will live on with those who knew and loved them; and, their vision will continue to inspire.

At the rising of the sun and at its going down,
We remember them.

At the blowing of the wind and in the chill of Winter, We remember them.

At the opening of buds and in the rebirth of Spring,
We remember them.

At the blueness of the skies and in the warmth of Summer,
We remember them.

At the rustling of leaves and the beauty of Autumn,
We remember them.

At the beginning of the year and when it ends,
We remember them.

As long as we live, they too will live;
for they are now a part of us, as we remember them.

When we are weary and in need of strength,
We remember them.

When we are lost and sick at heart,
We remember them.

When we have joys we yearn to share,
We remember them.

When we have decisions that are difficult to make,
We remember them

When we have achievements that are based on theirs,
We remember them.

As long as we live, they too shall live,
for they are a part of us, as we remember them.

My deepest sympathy to all the families and friends.  You are all in our hearts everywhere.  Bless you all !!!

To all of my fellow Hokies,

This has been a week of great sadness and tragedy for the entire world.  We have lost 32 shining examples of the Virginia Tech spirit.  After witnessing the great strength of our “Hokie Nation”, especially ALL of the current students and faculty in Blacksburg, perhaps we can grow a few more people into the family that share this character.  It is with a heavy heart that I tell you that I am so very proud to be a Hokie, and witness all of Hokies truly live the motto - That I May Serve.  Continue to serve one another, and don’t be afraid to ask for, and offer support to any in the time of need.

A Hokie for Life!

My deepest sympathies to all of those people who have lost loved ones in this senseless tradgedy. My heart breaks for each and everyone of you. I cannot understand such evil and sickness, but I do embrace love, just as Jesus did as he walked the walk to Calvery many years ago. And because of that deep and abiding love, I believe in his restorative power to bring life from death and hope out of complete despair. I pray that his life sustain and keep you during this time and that he bind up and heal your broken hearts. Amen. Rita K.
