Condolences, April 20, 2007

To all those affected by this tragedy,
My heart goes out to your lose. As a parent of two college students, I cannot imagine the pain you feel, nor would I want to. As a former student at VT I cannot imagine the horror you saw and felt that monday morning, nor would I want to. I am 30 years removed from this peaceful community. To think that I once lived where such a terrible thing happened. To think that I was once taught and learned where such a terrible thing happened. I could never, ever understand why these things happen. Pointless. Senseless.I have no magic words to lessen the pain. No magic words to dry the tears. But I will always remember that monday morning. And I will always carry a piece of that sorrow with me.

I was very sad to hear about what happened on Monday.  Also very scared.  Many of the people I graduated from high school with go to Tech.  All the victims and the entire Tech family are in my thoughts and prayers.  We will make it through.

To the Families,
My heart is breaking for each of you.  I wish I could tell you face to face how terribly sorry I and my family are for each of you.  You are in our prayers, hearts and thoughts.  Our Catholic Church, St. John Neumann’s in Reston, VA had a mass Wednesday night for you and your loved ones.  As a Catholic, I believe that all of God’s angels, all of the saints, Jesus, Mary and God himself are mourning and crying right along side with you.  God bless each one of you and may God bless and watch over every student, faculty member and staff at VA-Tech.

Words cannot replace loved ones, they can’t heal the pain and grief you are going through, but they can let you know you are in the thoughts and prayers of people around the world.

The scenes from the vigil you held were moving beyond words. It reinforced the belief that the goodness in people will overcome any atrocity, no matter how malevolent, forced upon it.

The Students and Staff at Virginia Tech have shown amazing resolve and courage under the most dire circumstances.

May Peace be with you all.

My condolences to all Hokies. I hope you will take comfort from these words at Revelation 21:3,4.

“With that I heard a loud voice from the throne say: “Look! The tent of God is with mankind, and he will reside with them, and they will be his peoples. And God himself will be with them. And he will wipe out every tear from their eyes, and death will be no more, neither will mourning nor outcry nor pain be anymore. The former things have passed away.”

here is a poem to help bring comfort during this trying time.

as i sit today and think of your life and love
i am reminded of the many mountains you helped me move.
you left this world in a hurry
but i know there is no need to worry,
for you are in a far better place
because you had won this long and trying race.
when i see the beauty of a child’s smile
i know we’ll only be apart a little while.
when i see a gleam in another’s eye
i know it is a glimpse of you passing by.
in the moonlight of winter when i see the glistening snow
i know from heaven you are saying hello.
in the stillness and quietness of the night
i can hear you gently whisper “don’t worry,i am alright.”
when i see the twinkle of the brightest star
i know that from me you are not far.
when in spring i see the green, green grass
i know my sorrow for you will pass.
when i smell the sweetness of a rose
i can hear your words of wisdom that in my spirit flows.
when on my face i feel the coolness of the rain
i know that for you there is no more pain.

I promise that your loss will bring the VT community together in a way that will astonish you.  I have also had the unfortunate experience of losing a college friend. Share your wonderful memories often, and your friends will continue to live forever.  I have faith that all of you will support one another through this extrememly difficult time, and although you may not be able to see beyond tragedy now, good things will reveal themselves in time.

Peace and love to you all!

Our thoughts and prayers go out to all of you, but especially for the victims and their families. As parents who lost a child long ago, we really feel for you and know what a difficult road you will have to travel. We will hold in our hearts the dead, the wounded and the whole VT community.
We are in awe of the VT students and staff, your eloquence, ability to share yourselves to the world, and most of all, your determination to work together to heal.

On behalf of my family, I wish you all of the strength and support you need in your time of grief.  Despite the horror of the events that happened on your campus, have faith that each and every one of you will overcome these hard times.  Always remember that you are a part of one of the finest universities in the world and there are family members, friends, and alumni everywhere who support you and care about you.  Stay strong and continue the tradition of being a Hokie...for yourselves and the remainder of your time at Tech and for the generations of Hokies to come.  My brother graduated from Tech last year, and in honor of Hokie Hope day and all of you, I proudly wear the VT hat that he bought for me.

My fellow Hokies,
All week I have been approached by others asking me if I am okay.  They are asking me this because I am an alumnus.  From all the support, you would think that someone in my family pasted away.  Then I started to think about it and I did lose over 30 family members April 16th.  God bless the Hokies and lets continue to show the world how big and strong our family is.

To the amazing Hokie Community, please know that you are in our hearts now and always. We know that our pain and tears are only a small reflection of the grief you feel, but know, too that your incredible courage and spirit have been the finest testament to the strength of character that has been your gift to us.  You cannot begin to know how your beautiful spirit and grace has inspired us all.  We are all Hokies today, and we love you.

I feel a great sadeness.  I don’t know anyone who was hurt or killed but I still feel sad.  Maybe it was the fact it was people my age who died or I know people who go to Virginia Tech.  But today I am wearing a Virginia Tech Tee shirt and proud of it.  I have not stop praying since this happen.  I hope every one is watching us from Heaven.

I am so, so sorry. I will be praying continuously for everyone directly affected at VT; as is everyone around the World. Ryder & I are wearing orange today in memory of the victims. Also, I plan on ordering a VT shirt in memory of the victims. Maybe you could have VT Tech shirts made with their names on the back. Proceeds could go to a scholarship, or something positive out of such a tragedy. God speed.
