Give all of us the strength to remember that life is so very fragile.

We are all vulnerable and we will all at some point in our lives, fall.

We will all fall.

We must carry this in our hearts, that what we have is special.

That it can be taken from us, and that when it is taken from us, we will be tested.

We will be tested to our very souls.

We will now all be tested.

It is these time’s, it is this pain, that allows us to look inside ourselves.

God Bless

I’m a 2004 VT Pamplin MBA grad from the NOVA Center. All of my degree was earned in NoVa, so I regret that I do not know the Blacksburg campus well. However, I am so heartened by the display of unity that I see of Hokie Pride and it spreads worldwide to other alums. I am extremely proud of my association to VaTech, now more than ever after you have shown the world what strength you are made of. My heart aches with you for what has been suffered.

I am so deeply sorry for what happened on that unspeakable day. We lost our best and brightest, our future, tomorrow’s doctors, lawyers, engineers, and leaders.  As a fellow college student, I find it so saddening that all their incredible potential will go unfulfilled.  We also mourn the loss of the brilliant mentors who helped shaped their young minds.  What a tragic loss for our country, for the world, truly!  They are gone, but their immeasurable worth will never be forgotten.  While I would never compare our loss as a nation to the loss you, their loved ones, are experiencing, we share in your pain and hope that the love, prayers, and thoughts of some strangers can bring you some small comfort during this horrible time.
Peace and love, Johanna

My broken heart is what connects me to the Virginia Tech community.  You all are to be commended for the brave and unwavering way in which you’ve dealt with this senseless tragedy.  I am in awe of your strength, passion, humility, intense loyalty, and remarkable intellect, talent and promise.  I regret that I haven’t heard enough about the victims, none of whom I knew, but all of whom I wish I had known.  I will never be able to comprehend the loss of their beautiful and unselfish lives.  I sincerely hope we never, ever forget them, their families, friends, and YOU!  May VT emblazen the world with it’s maroon and orange effect and hokie spirit, always!  God bless each and every one of you, today, during commencement, next year when the fall semester gets underway and forever more. Go VT!

I have been at a loss of words about the tragedy. The frailty of life is a recurring thought. To all those who lost family, friends and colleagues I defer to the words of W.H.Auden:

“Stop all the clocks, cut off the telephone”

Stop all the clocks, cut off the telephone,
Prevent the dog from barking with a juicy bone,
Silence the pianos and with muffled drum
Bring out the coffin, let the mourners come.

Let aeroplanes circle moaning overhead
Scribbling on the sky the message He Is Dead,
Put crepe bows round the white necks of the public doves,
Let the traffic policemen wear black cotton gloves.

He was my North, my South, my East and West,
My working week and my Sunday rest,
My noon, my midnight, my talk, my song;
I thought that love would last for ever: I was wrong.

The stars are not wanted now: put out every one;
Pack up the moon and dismantle the sun;
Pour away the ocean and sweep up the wood.
For nothing now can ever come to any good.

Tell your loved ones how much you mean to them...everyday.

My colleages in our school district and I are wearing orange and maroon in memory of your children (friends, relatives) involved in this horrible trajedy.  I lost an adult child 6 1/2 years ago and I felt heart ache for you remembering how I felt then. You have my sincere empathy.

The thing that has helped me the most is to remember the happy times with my son.  Also, I feel kinship with My Lord who gave his Son for our sins.  I try to remember that, as much as I loved my son, He loved my child even more than I ever could.

As I cry for you and your loss, I pray that He will keep you embraced in His comforting arms.

Everyone is a Hokie in spirit today.  My heartfelt sympathy goes out to the families, friends and loved ones of all the innocent victims of this tragedy, and of course to the survivors and witnesses who will be forever changed by Monday’s horrible events.  I wish strength, love and peace for everyone affected.  Having worked at George Mason in Fairfax for over 7 years until late March, I know how quickly a university community can come together and help each other heal.  The Tech family has displayed that strength of spirit admirably this week, and is an inspiration to us all.
