Condolences, April 19, 2007

I was driving with a friend yesterday, and she mentioned that she has a relative who attended and graduated from Virginia Tech. He so loved the school.  She mentioned the love and closeness among the Virginia Tech community.  I hope this special bond will always remain. Virginia Tech is a special place. I send my condolences to one and all.

I wish to send my prayers and love to all of you at Virginia Tech.  I am a parent who had a child at Santana High School in Santee, California shooting and the pain and fear that I experienced until I was assured of my child’s safety seemed like a lifetime.  That day, though many years ago seems like yesterday.  It is a very slow healing and every year on the anniversary date, us parents and students join together at the school and remember the children that were killed that day and those that were injured and fortunately survived.  Your healing will come from each other and those who will hold you in their hearts forever.  We have a beautiful memorial garden for those we lost at Santana High School that day, it was one of our healing points.  I will say a special prayer for all of you and those who left us too soon.  May God be with you.

I hope that this University, this nation, and the entire world take away from this tragedy the idea that love is always stronger than hate. Yes, the shooter changed our world to terror but our love will remake it better than before. We are picking up the pieces and we will reassemble them into a stronger and even more unified Hokie Nation. So remember to show love, teach love, practice love, and most of all share love. This love will heal us and the world will change in response to seeing it. So here is my love for all the victims, their friends and families, and for the entire Hokie Nation to which I am prouder than ever to be a member of.

One more tragedy!  We feel especially close to you in your time of grief and loss. I am President of Loyola Jesuit College, Abuja, Nigeria. On December 10th, 2005, we lost 60 of our students in a plane crash, yes - 10% of our student body.  We can imagine what you are going through.  Our hearts and prayers go out to you.
As our tragedy has resulted in some reforms in the aviation industry in Nigeria, we hope that the lives of these members of your community will not be lost in vain.  We honor the students we lost by a deeper commitment to be the best we can be, and a deeper appreciation of the preciousness of life and friends.  May your tragedy lead all of us to work for non-violence and more adequate gun control.
With strong faith in God, with the support and help of one another, I am sure that Virginia Tech not only will recover, but will grow stronger in excellence in education.  Our prayers and tears are with you, and especially with the bereaved families.

I am a graduate of WVU and grew up in Beckley WV. I have alway considerd Blacksburg as my back yard, my sibiling rivalry, we’d get together for a friendly game of football. I now live in Utah, I’ve have never felt so far away from home. I feel so conected to the folks in Blacksburg. I am not surprised how my fellow Appalachains are dealing with things. We are always strong, we think of others first and however impossible it may seem we try to find good in the worst situation. I know that most will heal, but some will find it impossible. My thoughts and prayers are with you and I will be wearing a VT jersey at the WVU games. GOD BLESS

The strength, fortitude and bravery that the students of Virginia Tech have shown in this time of mourning has truly been a becon of light and hope to the rest of the world. You have weathered the adversity of the media, the constant pouding of attention, that invades your privacy in a moment when privacy is so desperatly needed. Yet, you stand strong, you stand together.  As Hokies, students, as men and women, you have show tremendous couarge and dignity. Please know that you are all in the thoughts and prayers of not only myself but every student at the University of Houston. Stay strong Hokies, we’re with you.

Its a horrible thing that took place at VT Monday!!! It saddened me when i got the in depth news of what went on… at first i was confused because i didnt know any details, till late Monday night!! come Tuesday it hit me and i had to shed a couple tears for the victims and their loved ones!! without much detail, i truly understand how it feels to loose people that you absolutely love!! I just pray that God be with all the families and truly help them through this time, because ONLY through God, may we find the strength to go on and believe it or not through him, it shall seriously get better over time!!
We are not to judge what shouldve happened to the killer, nor who he was as a person, because of what took place, Just know that he is in no one but God’s hands now and he will do with him, what he feels he deserves, because once again us people cant say… As humans we would have a lot of mean things to say and tons of hurt, but sadly we are to leave it alone now and just give it to God and once again he WILL make it better.  God Bless you all and nothin but prayers and love your way!!

I am so sad to see a tragic confluence of two of the most positive influences on my life: Virginia Tech and Korea. I am a 1970 graduate, and I can say without hesitation that my education at Virginia Tech is the foundation of all that I have accomplished. I also lived in Korea for four years, and my admiration for the Korean people and culture knows no limits. This tragedy will NOT be a defining moment, either for Virginia Tech or for Americans of Korean heritage. Strength in the face of senseless, incomprehensible evil is how these sad days will be remembered.

My heart grieves for those lost at Virginia Tech.

Weep not for me
now that I have passed.
Remember the laughter, the affection, the joy
not just the recent tears.
Cherish the memories, our hopes and dreams.
Hold fast to the love that we shared.
Be happy with the time we spent together
and being anew.
For I am not really gone,
I am closer than ever before.
You may feel a faint breeze stir round your head, while you slumber
as I gently kiss your forehead, “Good night.”
The stars that shine so brightly in my heavenly sky
help me watch over you and keep you from harm.
I am the wind in the trees
and the song of a bird.
I am moonbeams in a midnight sky
and a glorious rainbow after the storm.
I am morning dew
and freshly-fallen snow.
I am a butterfly flying overhead
and a puppy happily at play.
I am a smile on a stranger’s face
a gentle touch
a warm embrace.
Listen to the wind for my message of love.
Watch the sun rise and set in the sky with me.
Feel my essence encircle you with warm memories.
Open your heart to know...I am not gone.
Reach deep into your soul...You will find me.
I am here.
Have no fear.
I am with you,

To all of the students, faculty, and staff of Virginia Tech:

Words cannot express how deeply saddened I am to hear of the terrible tragedy that you all have had to endure.  All I can say is that my thoughts and prayers are with all of you, especially with the families who are without their precious loved ones tonight.

Please do not dwell on the selfish, cowardly acts of the perpetrator.  God will take care of that.  Instead, continue to be strong and support each other the way that you have been doing.  The entire country mourns with you.  It is not just your lost but all of ours.

“May the Lord bless you and keep you.  May He cause His face to shine upon you and give you peace from this day forth.”
