Condolences, April 19, 2007

For the students, faculty and staff - may you find peace and comfort in each other and in God.  And in time, may you find healing.

For the injured - may God heal not only your physical wounds but your emotional wounds as well.

For the families and friends of the victims - I am so sorry for your loss, and know that there are no words that will ever make this better.  Just know that there are millions of people around the world who are praying for you.  May God give you strength, comfort and someday, the ability to forgive.

As a student of Penn State, I just wanted to express my condolences and let you know that we are thinking of you and your families.  Hang in there; we’re all praying for you!  I am not currently at State as I am studying abroad in Australia, however, I know that campus is pulling for you and this weekend our traditional Blue and White game will be adorned with the colors Maroon and Orange.  Go Hokies!

People always ask me What is a HOKIE?? Well today and from now on I will tell them this…

A hokie is a creature that looks like a turkey on the outside, but the reality is a Hokie is anything but a turkey on the inside. See this Hokie creature is more than that, Its truely something special. This creature is famous for the incredible bravery it shows in the face of danger. While it may be considered a flaw in other species one advantage Hokies have is they are all made with a over sized heart. If a Hokie does have a fault it could be that a Hokie spends hours trying to understand things that dont make sense to anyone else. This creature is a friend to all, and surely when God created this creature he made them strong for a reason. A hokie will stand by another hokie no matter what and True Hokies will Never forget April 16, 2007!!!! Yes I am Hokie and I’m truely blessed to be one.God Bless Virginia Tech!!!

We have no connection to Virginia Tech whatsoever other than for years (since the days of Jim Drunkenmiller) we have admired the heart, fight, and spirit of your football team. This week we realized that the proud qualities of your football team, as great a team as it is, are a mere reflection of those same qualities in your President, faculty, and student body. Virginia is Hokieproud!

I am very saddened. My Heart goes out to each and everyone of you. I wish I could be there to help you get through this. Everyone of you are in my thoughts and prayers.
You are the HOKIES! You make us proud of the way you have carried yourselves through this tragic event.
Take one day at a time, and talk to one another and know that there are thousands of us that will be here if you need us.

My sorrow is real but is nothing compared to those of you who have a loved one, a friend or a classmate that had their lives stolen that awful day.  Not only were they victims of this crime; the friends and families left behind are victims as well.  You had something stolen that day and the thief was evil and sad.
They say time heals all things… I do believe this.  It will heal but will leave a scar on your hearts forever.  What can I say?  As a Christian I will tell you that God has a plan and sometimes we do not understand the why’s but we know He does.  As a mother I would say “Why?”
For what purpose did God take my child?”
So many emotions for you to bare but know you don’t have to carry them by yourselves. I wish I could find the right words to say other then I am so sorry this happened.
I pray that you will find peace soon.
With Deepest Sympathy,
Rosemary T. Bennett

Peace and love to the VT community who are having to endure such tragedy.  The students are to be admired in showing their “Hokie” strength to get through such sadness.  May the future hold kinder and gentler acts for all of you.

Hello, I live in Toronto Canada and have seen alot of death in my life.

To the Families:
I am a grievance counsellor and I know the pain of going through the steps of grieving a loved one.  I urge you to seek counselling at this difficult time.  My prayers are with all of you.

To the Administration:
From all that I have seen and read, you did the best you could do with the information you had.  Very difficult decisions and you made them.  Seek counselling.  You may feel very confused and want to help the students and families, but you will be of no help if youre not ok yourself.

To the students:
I pray to God that the violence in all our communities stop.  The gangs and drugs and fighting.  It will be difficult to put this horror behind you, but in time you will.  Seek counselling.  It’s not weak to do so, it will help you get through.  To go what you’ve gone through is nothing less than horrendous.  Talk it out as much as you can. Your emotions will be running very high for awhile and its very hard to deal with.  You are too young to have witnessed this terrible crime. So yell, scream, cry, but get it out.  My prayers are with all of you and your families.

With deep respect......Colleen

To VT and all those who love are in my thoughts and prayers daily. To the students...College is supposed to be the times of all times as it was for me. The joys, the sorrows, the discoveries, the relationships, so much hope put into this moment in time for you. I am sorry that this has to be a moment in time for you. My prayer is you gain from it and never let in stunt who you are meant to be today and tomorrow. Thank you to the faculty who love a college campus and all that it represents...I believe there is no greater place to be! And for all of us who are parents who entrust our children to you thank you for all you do. Thank you to those who lost their lives saving our children and teaching our children. To the resident assistant staff, I was an RA too. And I know that in all the training you do, never do you think this tragedy would become a part of you.  Stay strong...your residents love you and need you. I know what it is like to be the first line of defense, joy, hope, strength, discipline, safety and security, big brother/sister, and most of all friend to your residents. It is worth it all. My prayers for peace and strength to your family.

We, as retired teachers, have been most impressed with the students at VA Tech and their maturity when interviewed by the news media.  It’s possible that adults could not handle what these young people are going through at the present, and yet---these college students have and with dignity.
We will probably never understand in our life time why something like this massacre occurred and why so many innocent people lost their lives.
We ask God to bless you all and help you through this horrible ordeal.

I just printed out the mayors wish for friday at noon to honor and remember the victims of this sad loss for Virginia Tech, the state and the world. He ordered a state wide moment of silance on 4-20 and I wanted my daughter to take this print out to her school and see if they can do the same. We live in De , not Virginia, but this is a loss for our country, not just a state or a school. These bright people could have made a real differance in the world , but they were taken from us. Its so sad, such a loss, and we all feel for the parents , siblings and those closest too these students and teachers who lost their lives; God bless !

Our family’s thoughts and prayers are with all of you today.  Our daily book of prayers had this for April 16th, sounds like it was expressly written for that day.  May you find comfort in this prayer.....

Cast down imaginations and every high and lofty thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God.  Don’t let your mind be taken captive by the enemy. Instead, lead every thought and purpose away into the obedience of Christ.  Decide to be a blessing to everyone you meet today. Forgive anyone who has hurt you, and leave unresolved circumstances in God’s hands. Don’t use today to relive yesterday. Say, “I am moving forward today, in Jesus’ name.”

To say my thoughts and prayers are with you all seems like so little, but all I can offer you now.  I have cried with you this week and my heart has broken to see so many VT students and faculty whose talented and wonderful lives have been cut so senselessly short.  I think that everyone that has attended a Virginia state school has felt a little bit like a Hokie this week and been so proud to see you unwavering pride and spirit.  Please know that you are in my thoughts every step of the way.

To be a Virginian either by Birth, Marriage, Adoption, or even on one’s Mother’s side, is an Introduction to any State in the Union,
a Passport to any Foreign Country, and a Benediction from Above.........Anonymous

To paraphrase the preceding:
To be a Hokie either by allegience, tradition, the pursuit of excellence, or the feeling of our common pain tragically brings us together as one institution, one people, one nation.  God bless those who fell, those who mourn them and those who tried and are trying, with all their heart, to make something so very wrong right.

As Professor Giovanni so eloquently stated: “We will prevail.  We are Virginia Tech.”

My thoughts and prayers are with all the victims, their families, and the VT family.  As a member of the Aggie family, I was there in 1999 when Bonfire fell.  While that incident is in no comparison to your grief, our family went through the trial and loss of our fellow students.  I know how it feels to have the world watch you cry.  I can only hope you are comforted by knowing the world cries with you.
