Condolences, April 19, 2007

As the mother of four children, two in college and two in high school here in Northern Virginia, and a UVA alum and instructor, I want to express my deepest sympathy and heartfelt caring for all of the Hokies among us.  My children have many friends at Tech, and we pray that you all find comfort in knowing that you are firmly in the hearts and prayers of the world.

I also want to credit the University for making wise decisions concerning the academic life of its students and faculty right now.  Clearly this time is for healing.

For now, we are all Hokies.  Hugs to all.

My husband and I were so saddened to think of all the good people and families impacted by this tragedy.  News coverage never does justice to the secret hearts and kind minds trying to make sense out of such grief.  May we all look to Divine healing as we forgive and cherrish those close to us, moving forward with resolve to choose the higher road that leads to peace and understanding.
We are including you in our daily prayers and hope there will be unity of care amoung you.

My daughter and I took a final tour of the campus on the afternoon of April 13th before deciding to finalize the admissions documents.  We could feel the high spirit through the student admissions and campus tour guides and in interactions of the guides with their friends on campus.

We were shocked with the news on Monday, and I left work to spend time with her.  We had a very quiet and close conversation and I said that the University needs strong spirits to help them out at this most difficult time to which my daughter stroked an invisible “1” in the air above her head to say with conviction: “that’s me.”

We’re coming...we’re Hokies.

My heart goes out to all the family and friends of the victims. I’m an Australian and miles away from Virginia Tech but it is still such a horrific event- you can feel its influence even here. I know that this will be lost amongst all the other condolences, but all the same, I have to share my sympathies. I’m not a very religious person but may God guide you through what you must be feeling.

As the friend of a Nurse Administrator murdered at the hand of a madman at the University of Arizona in 2002, I am reminded of the pain and hopelessness I once felt. Be strong, young students, remember your loved ones are safe in the arms of the Lord.

Life is brief, but love is strong.

I am the mother of two college female students. I simply cannot fathom the horror the victims and their families have experienced.  My heart and prayers go out to all of those whom this tragedy has affected.  From Columbine to Virginia Tech, a mother has to wonder just how safe are her children when they’re supposed to be in a safe, education-oriented facility.  Please remember that the country grieves with you.  You will never be forgotten.  Corrine G.

This tradgedy has taken the whole country by surprise. Never will I forget what happened on April 16, 2007. I grieve for the students and faculty that lost their lives, and I pray for their families. I am also praying for Cho and his family. Maybe if he hadn’t been picked on, this wouldn’t have happened, but we will never be for sure. All I can say is that if I could have done something, I would have.
God Bless Virginia Tech!!

I have never seen Virginia Tech in person, but this tragic event has brought me closer than ever. I share the sadness, emptiness and feel the tremendous loss deep in my heart. I only know the victims from the pictures, but those alone have told me wonderful stories that I will never forget. I want to express my deepest sympathy and condolences to the family of the victims, friends and all those who were affected, one way or another. I know now that it has affected me somehow and hopefully overcoming this will make us a stronger person. This event has changed my life forever.

I like everyone else am deeply saddened at the loss of so many beautiful people. The questions being asked of the “how” was he able to get a gun should really be, why was he able to stay at the school after being seen by a judge for stalking 2 women and other in appropriate acts? Anyone can get a gun-if not legally, illegally. We need to do something about the protection we give to people WE need to be protected from! Please lets work to get the laws changed!

Yet another bewildering, unbearable tragedy unfolded before us this week.

Everyone lost was a mother’s child.  Most were just starting out on what should have been a long and rewarding life.

My heart goes out to everyone caught up in this truly horrific event.

When I just heard that all those who perished would be given their Graduate Degrees posthumously, I wept buckets - it was actually the sweetest thing amid all the pain.

Please know, all at Virginia Tech, that there are people all over the world sending you their love and support.

As I watched clips of Mondays events on a Tuesday news program, I noticed my 6 yr old son watching as well.  The heroic efforts of police, school officials and Emergency Workers, students and staff supporting each other in their anguish, and friends and family of these 32 beautiful people, lovingly describing them to us.  Seeing my tears, he came to me and said “Mom, I bet God is so proud of the people at that school.  If we all love each other like they do, maybe shooters and wars will learn to love too.” At that moment, I felt a such a sense of pride in all of you.  Thank You all for the wonderful example you have set for my son and the rest of this troubled world.  We continue to pray for you all, the souls of the victims, the injured and the traumatized.  All our love and sympathy to you.

To the Students/Staff/Faculty & Families of VT victims; Our prayers are with you all and always remember those encouraging words spoken by Professor Nikki Giovanni “The Hokie Nation embraces our own and reaches out with open heart and hands to those who offer their hearts and minds. We are strong, and brave, and innocent, and unafraid. We are better than we think and not quite what we want to be. We are alive to the imaginations and the possibilities. We will continue to invent the future through our blood and tears and through all our sadness.  We will united with the VT Family this Friday 4/20 and wear “Orange and Maroon Effect” to support those families of those who were lost. God Bless you and keep you.

Today, We Are All Hokies

In the bright April morning
without warning to us all,
A few thousand lives were shattered
and we watched 32 people fall.
And a billion souls felt empty,
and flags will at half-mast fly
In memory of the innocent
who didn’t have to die.
We’ve lost brothers, sisters, cousins.
We’ve lost family and friends.
Bu we’ve made the choice
not to forget their lives and tragic ends.
Though we’ve had our share
of troubles we have put them all aside
As a nation grieves we find ourselves
defending them with pride.
We’re a nation of survivors,
with one heart we share a tear.
But we live to serve the memory,
not giving into fear.
Though he tries to take security
with the things he’s done and said,
All his acts of inhumanity
bring unity instead.
So we stand here as a family.
One heart, one soul, one voice.
We are challenged by this moment
and united here by choice.
[Adapted from “Nation of Suvivors” by Jack Foshee Jr.]

I would like to give my deepest and sincerest condolences to the the University, families, and students at Va Tech.

So glad to find this is a way of feeling close to each and everyone of you.  Helplessness is what so many Americans are feeling at this time.....we want so much to help you, to console you, to wrap our arms around you....FEEL AMERICA & THE WORLD DOING ALL OF THE ABOVE AND MORE.  On Monday morning each and every heart in our country missed at least one beat.  We sat rivited to news reports and were numb at what we saw and heard.
Each of you, the students, faculty, family & friends of Virgina Tech..
