Condolences, April 19, 2007

Do not stand at my grave and weep;
I am not there. I do not sleep.
I am a thousand winds that blow,
I am the diamond glints on snow,
I am the sunlight on ripened grain,
I am the gentle autumn’s rain.

When you awaken in the morning’s hush,
I am the swift uplifting rush,
Of quiet birds circled flight
I am the soft stars that shine at night.
Do not stand at my grave and cry. I am not there. I did not die.

-Robert Hepburn

The victims of this incomprehensible tragedy will live on in the hearts of their friends, family, and all the people they touched throughout their lives.  Know that one day soon, instead of crying when you think of the loved ones you lost, that you will smile and remember the good times you shared with them.

My soul aches for the entire Virginia Tech family in this dark time.  But Hokies ‘round the world be strong, the sun will shine again.

It is always painful to see young lives lost; especially in a tragedy such as this one. God gives and God takes away, and unfortunately he took away 32 innocent lives. Let Him comfort the families and loved ones of the victims and let their souls- including the one of the perpetrator rest in peace.

Our hearts break with the VA Tech family. The souls of those lost soar - their spirits will live in the memories of those who loved them and inspire those who’s lives they touched.  Those of us who only know them by their names and faces will forever be changed by their loss and the tragedy of the event that took them too soon.  God Bless you all!

I am a Hokie who is fortunate enough to possess both a Bachelor’s, as well as a Master’s degree, from Virginia Tech. My heart is breaking for the victims, their families and friends, and all the Tech alumni. Who could have ever thought that an event of this magnitude would ever happen in our quiet Blacksburg? And yet, I have never been prouder of my university than I have been this past week, as I watched those brave young students continiously speak of the Hokie Nation, Hokie pride, and their love for Virginia Tech. As the whole world watched, they displayed courage, pride, dignity and a sense of community in spite of this senseless tragedy. Never again will anyone have to ask the question “What is a Hokie?”, because this week, they saw it for themselves. As a University, we will get through this together, because as Nicki Giovanni said, “We ARE Virginia Tech!”

I am a VT grad and the parent of a VT student who lost a friend on 4/16.  I am stunned and profoundly sad at what has occurred at my beautiful, wonderful school.  My heart is broken for the students and especially for the families of those who died.  I’m so grateful that my daughter wasn’t physically harmed, but I can’t help think but for fate what could have been, and I hug her longer and stronger.  Love each other - show it and say it, we don’t know when we may not be able to - that’s what’s really important.

O our God!  These are Thy servants and the sons and daughters of Thy servants who hath believed in Thee.  Thou art, verily, of those who show mercy the most merciful.

Deal with them, O Thou Who forgivest the sins of men and women and concealest their faults, as beseemeth the heaven of Thy bounty and the ocean of Thy grace.  Grant them admission within the precincts of Thy transcendent mercy that was before the foundation of earth and heaven.  There is no God but Thee, the Ever-Forgiving, the Most Generous.
