i have no words of comfort.  i mean, what words really could?  all i can do is think of you all and pray.  i was on vacation visiting my family when this tragic “thing” happened...i got to say goodbye to my parents when i left, knowing there are 32 people who never will get that chance again and my heart is broken.  to those families who are changed now forever, may God give you peace that is past understanding.  may He bless you with faith and hope and the comfort of knowing you will reunite again with your loved ones in a place where no hearts will ever bleed again.

There are no words to express how deep this tragedy has cut through all of us. The senseless tragedy, so many bright beautiful lives taken. Our country has lost a GREAT deal of beautiful people that have done and were going to do GREAT things. AS I sit here with tears running down my face, I pray as do so many of us those left behind can begin to heal and know that the whole country is behind them and praying for them.
God Bless.

Albert J. Simone, President, Rochester Institute of Technology:

On behalf of Rochester Institute of Technology, I offer our deepest condolences and sympathies to the Virginia Tech community, and especially to the family and friends of the victims. This is a national tragedy of unimaginable proportions. I am in shock and deeply saddened by the horrific events of April 16. It is difficult to make sense of such a senseless act. We grieve for the victims’ families and friends.

The tragedy at Virginia Tech can happen anywhere at anytime. At RIT, we will continue to work hard to ensure a safe and secure environment for our students, faculty and staff. We must remain vigilant. We must never forget the events of April 16, 2007, in Blacksburg, Va. The higher education community, as well as the nation, will learn from this deadly shooting. We will heal as time passes.

There are no words I can offer to provide solace to anyone.  I can only say that I am as sad today as I was after 9/11.  Senseless, tragic, and haunting.

April 19, 2007, 3:22pm • Oakton, VA • #31603

I am a grad of VT, as well as my father, brother and daughter.  One of the victims went to my church.  Another was in my son’s high school graduating class.  We are all profoundly sad.  May God ‘raise you up on eagles wings’ and wrap each of you in His comfort and love.

Lean on each other in this time of grief.  You will need the support of your friends in the days to come.  Honor those who lost their lives by remembering the little things that made them a joy to you.  Your sorrow, little by little, will begin to lessen until the day you realize it has become bearable.  I hope it helps to know that thousands, millions of people are holding you in their hearts and grieving with you.

April 19, 2007, 3:23pm • Manassas, Virginia • #31608

To VA Tech students, family, and staff:

The pain you are in will never be described or felt by the ones who had to watch this unfold on our TV’s but know one thing, God will comfort you if you allow him to.  Don’t give up on faith and hope.  Prayers to all...........
God, grant them the knowledge to overcome.

Our nation grieves with this horrendeous tragedy.  These lives were taken much to soon, even though I believe God has a plan for all of us.  Keep your faith in God as he looks after your loved ones.  They are safe in his arms now.  I know the world can be an unkind place sometimes, but lets all come together and help whomever needs it, and embrace the sorrow with support.  My heart goes out to all involved in losing loved ones in this senseless act of violence against humanity.  God Bless everyone…

What can you say in times like these? I can remember when my father died of cancer on March 22, 2002, nothing that anyone said, helped. Only time can begin to heal the wound and pain but nothing will make you forget or remove the scar it has left upon your life. It is moments like these that make us grow, learn, and become better people. Always remember and always know that you are good and good will always overcome evil. God Bless you VT and you are in my families’ prayers. Jo Ellen Burnette

My son is a Hokie and his love for his college has made me feel like a Hokie too.  I mourn with the nation.  Do not let this senseless tragedy define Tech.  You are strong.  You will continue the traditions that have made you great.  My prayers and sympathies are with you all.  May the souls of the departed always be for a loving benediction.

I would first like to share my deepest condolences with the deceased, the survivors and the family and friends of all. I feel it is important now to remember that as a community, you are only as strong as your weakest leak...and in saying that it is equally important to reach out to students such as Cho...students who feel such deep pains and anguish. My heart goes out to everyone involved.

The Virginia Tech community has suffered so much over the last few days. It is at times like this that I struggle with the thought that everything that happens is part of God’s plan. I wish that in some small way I could take upon myself the sorrow that runs so deep with the friends and family of the lost souls. You are all in my thoughts and prayers. God bless.

The following lyrics from a very beautiful choral work convey my most sincere thoughts and prayers for the entire VT community.

Words and Music by Mark Hayes

Be in my life,
Be in my breath;
Be in my walk,
Be in my rest.
Be in this humble heart of mine;
Be ever present in my mind.

Be in my hands,
Be in my feet;
Be in my eyes
And in my speech.
Be in the smile I give away;
Be in each healing word I say.

Be in my work,
Be in my play;
Be in the struggles of each day.

Be in my joy,
Be in my pain;
Be in my loss,
Be in my gain.
Be in my thoughts,
Be in my song;
Be in my spirit all day long.

Be in my prayers,
At dawn’s first light;
Be in my dreams,
all through the night.

Amen, Amen, Amen, Amen
The prayer of my heart
Forever shall be;
I in You and You in me.

Classes will resume on Monday.  I urge you all to return to the campus to reclaim it, if at all possible.  Throughout the next few weeks, your presence there, your laughing, crying, eating, walking, sleeping, working, and playing will honor the lives of those who are gone.  It will be comfort to the loved ones of those lost that the student body continues in the memory of the ones who are no longer there.  Most importantly, don’t let the horror that has occurred there be the image that remains throughout the summer.  Take back Virginia Tech.
