Condolences, April 19, 2007

"See what kind of love the Father has given to Us, that we should be called children of God, and so we are. The reason why the world does not know us is that it did not know him.”

Don’t let their lives gone in vain, raise stronger and make use of it as a best example we should have, when the most neartest person is in need.

There are no words that can take away your pain, your fear, your sorrow; and for that I am truly sorry.  Please know that I - and so many others not directly affected by your tragedy - am thinking of all of you, praying for healing for you, and hoping that you will not let this incredible loss destroy you.  Stay strong, mourn your loved ones, and take each moment as it comes until the pain begins to ease.  Wishing you peace.

As the mother of two young men in college at Rutgers University, one an undergraduate and one in Graduate School, who trusts each day that my sons are safe on campus, I am horrified and deeply saddened by the tragic loss of 32 bright and beautiful souls. Words cannot adequately express our feelings on this senseless tragedy. Please convey my family’s deepest sympathy and condolences to the victims’ families on their loss, and also to their larger family at Virgina Tech. We are so sorry.

I am so sorry that so many promising futures were lost.  As a college student, it is easy to relate to the lives of those lost and this all becomes so “real” to us outside of your community.

May they all rest in peace.

Dear VTU,
Please know that the world shares in your sorrow and stand in solidarity with you. I offer a poem that has been of great solace in the saddest of times:

Do not stand at my grave and weep,
I am not there. I do not sleep.
I am a thousand winds that blow,
I am the diamond glints on snow,
I am the sunlight on ripened grain,
I am the gentle autumn rain.

When you waken in the morning’s hush,
I am the swift uplifting rush
Of quiet birds in circled flight.
I am the soft stars that shine at night.

Do not stand at my grave and cry,
I am not there; I did not die.

Keep their dreams alive.

I am heartbroken and consumed with grief for every person lost, their families and friends.  I cannot stop reading about you, looking at your pictures.  I am so sorry that this happened to you.  I pray for VT to find the strength and courage to go on, because you have to carry on, they would have wanted you to.

April 19, 2007, 2:10pm • San Francisco, California • #31349

As you heal, may you all share your strength with one another, and may your community reemerge, strong as it ever was.  For those who have lost those dear to them, may you know that the world grieves with you and that today, we are all your friends.  For those who were lost, while we all lament the loss of the greatness of who they could have been and what they could have done, let those who knew them celebrate all the wonderful things that make them who they are, and who they always will be.

I can not even begin to express my sorrow for this terrible loss to the families and to our nation. They were our future.  To the families who lost their children I pray that God holds you in His loving hands and provides the comfort you need to live day to day.  To the faculty, staff, and students, I hope that by some miracle some normalcy can begin for VT, for it is a good school.  It just had an evil person who wanted to ruin it. Don’t let him.  All my love and prayers for everyone.

A Prayer for YOU
I said a prayer for you today, I hope you don’t mind.
I asked the Lord to comfort you and put you fears behind.
I prayed for peace and mercy too, to help you through each day.
And for his loving guidance as he leads you on your way.
You need not walk this path alone so I prayed he’d hold your hand, and offer you some guidance in a way you’ll understand.
I asked him for little miracles and to bless you every day.
Keep looking for the rainbowes-and let him light your way.  (author unknown)
Our pryaers and thoughts are with all of you, I pray you find comfort and peace soon.

April 19, 2007, 2:12pm • UMC Hempstead, NY • #31358 still speechless about everything… it sent shivers down my spine every time i heard them say Virginia Tech on the news… i would have never imagined this happening in our state and that school… but if it had been anywhere else we would have thought “oh my god” and gone on with our day but when it happens in your home at your school ... everything changes. this could have affected another community somewhere else and not ours. it makes you so much more grateful when you do see tragedies now… at least it makes me more grateful… i had thought about going to Virginia Tech before but now i actually want to go there ...i want to be apart of such a strong community and such a proud school ... you can be sure i’ll be applying next year..... and every last person affected by this is in my heart ..... The Beatles said, “All you need is love,” as though it were a simple matter. Nothing, it seems, is ever simple where humanity is concerned. I only know that my heart is sickened and my mind tormented by what one person chose to do in Blacksburg. You who mourn, I weep with you. What you have lost is irrecoverable. When you can lift your heads to life once again, look to what is best in yourself and others, and put your energies into celebrating and expanding those things.  Godspeed.

As I took my 9-year-old daughter to school on Tuesday, the reality of how this tragedy affects everyone sunk in.  My daughter cried uncontrollably and was afraid to go to school. She said to me, “No one is safe, are they mommy”?  And my response to her was, “No, my dear, no one is safe anymore”.
My family’s heartfelt and deepest sympathies go out to each and every one affected by this horrific act. Our thoughts and prayers are with all of you. I can only pray that you will find peace and comfort in knowing that the world is grieving with you during this difficult time.

To Virginia Tech, students, faculty, and families:
We send our deepest sympathy during this time of painful loss.  Following the experiences of 9/11 and the comfort that we received from across the nation, we know the importance of standing together.  We are standing with you, kneeling in prayer for you, and sending our love.  The process is long and we will tarry with you as healing takes place.  We pray Christ’s peace and love will heal and embrace you.
