These incidents have been saddening and horrifying to everyone in our country, and many in other countries.  I am very sad for all the families and friends of the victims, and pray for a speedy recovery for those who survived.  I truely hope that VT and other institutions across the country and the world will learn from this that when a student demonstrates through his behavior and his writings such depression and such hatred, and has been diagnosed as being a threat to himself, that some action be taken to protect him and those within his sphere.  I am also very sad for this young man’s family.  Perhaps if they had been aware of his condition, they could have helped him.  May we all have peace in our hearts and minds.

Dear Hokie Nation,

I am heartbroken and share your shock and sorrow.  Please know that many thoughts and prayers are with you.  Healing will be slow, as it has been for those of us who were affected by Hurricane Katrina.  However, the prayers and kindness of many have helped us through our tragedy.  Now it is our turn to offer our love and prayers to you.  We will keep you in our hearts and prayers.

No words can ease the pain and suffering that the families, students, and faculty of VT are feeling.  I did not attend your university, but I dated a woman who graduated from your school and I was fortunate enough to visit the campus in 1996.  She graduated from the engineering department and was an active member of the campus rescue squad.  During these past few days, I cannot help but think of the brave and couragous first responders that responded to this incident.  From all that I have read, they responded with courage and professionalism in dealing with a situation that no amount of training can prepare you for, especially when they are your classmates.  I have nothing but respect for the resuce squad.

Thinking back on that trip, the beauty and tranquility of the campus, it is unimaginable that something like this could occur at VT.

My thoughts and prayers are with the entire VT communtity.  God Bless.

Stop all the clocks…

Stop all the clocks, cut off the telephone,
Prevent the dog from barking with a juicy bone,
Silence the pianos and with muffled drum
Bring out the coffin, let the mourners come.

Let aeroplanes circle moaning overhead
Scribbling on the sky the message He Is Dead,
Put crepe bows round the white necks of the public doves,
Let the traffic policemen wear black cotton gloves.

He was my North, my South, my East and West,
My working week and my Sunday rest,
My noon, my midnight, my talk, my song;
I thought that love would last for ever: I was wrong.

The stars are not wanted now: put out every one;
Pack up the moon and dismantle the sun;
Pour away the ocean and sweep up the wood.
For nothing now can ever come to any good.

For all the loved ones lost…

I know what it feels like to be shot in school & literally scared to death…
It happened to me in 8th grade.  It took me years to get over it but I finally did with Jehovah’s help.  Never give up, you survivors!!!  May you find comfort in knowing that you can see your loved ones again in the resurrection Jesus promised.

Remember those who died lived for a reason and their loss affects us all. Violence ahould be stopped and maybe we will now wake up to guns not being allowed in the hands of the mentally ill. Those who mourn be gentle to yourselves. Remember your loved ones are at peace. We all have a life span and their’s was too short but their purpose must have been fulfilled. I shed tears and shake my head at what another human has wrought.

I am writing to express my sincere regret that some of your students and faculty were lost.  I am deeply sorry for the pain that must be felt by friends, family and the entire school.  We mourn as a nation.

Although we cannot make up for the loss of these very important people, we can learn from them.  This incident has brought awareness to all schools across the country.  It has spurred discussion not only about gun control laws but about how to respond in a crises.  I have had conversations with my teenager and used the brave example of your students who had the wherewithal to barricade the door.

I am praying for you Virginia Tech.  I am praying and hoping that once you are past the horrible grief, you will speak to all of us across the country and teach us lessons drawn out of your loss.  We need to protect our colleges as a nation.  We need to teach our children to protect themselves and be aware of their surroundings in all circumstances.  Please gather your strength and know that you are in our hearts and minds in many different ways.

My heart breaks for all of you students, victims, and parents.  This is an unbearable grief, and yet you come together to support each other--the only way to get through something like this.  Please don’t forget that as you come to terms with this horror, the Korean students among you are feeling the same anger and hurt but also fear and deserve the same protection and support.  A man did this to you, not a Korean.
