Here in southern West Virginia, we have all felt the pain of our neighbors.  We cheer the Hokies on at athletic events, our children have field trips on your campus and we all know someone who is a student or graduate of your wonderful university.  This tragedy has broken my heart for all 33 victims and the loved ones left behind to pick up the pieces.

My hope is that policies for treating the mentally ill will change and allow a blessing to come from this horror.

Please know we grieve with you and offer our love and strength to all of you.

It saddens me a human being could have so much anger and hatred towards another human being without regards to their life or future possibilities. I have a daughter who is currently a junior in college. I can not imagine such an event to occur and take her life just as she begins to enter her future goals. I pray for the families that lost their child, brother, sister, or any other relatives. I pray for the family whose child cause so much turmoil. God bless this nation and provide us hope that love will heal and conquer all.

Even though I am far away I can feel and share your sorrow. Over here in England we are following the events closely. I send my deepest sympathy to you all. My family are saddened by the darkness that has clouded over your once happy university. How someone can be overcome with such evil to commit such a terrible crime is something which I cant begin to comprehend. You are all in my thoughts. God Bless you all.

Not too long ago I was searching the internet and came across a website giving full details on the Columbine shooting. It took me about an hour and a half to read it all, and after reading it I was deeply saddened, and then this happens.

I am in total shock and dismay by what Cho did to those 32 innocent people. My thoughts and prayers are with the families and friends of the victims.

My family would like to send our deepest condolences to the Firginia Tech families and friends. We are praying for you to find peace and acceptance.
We have been so impressed with the students over the past few days. Under extrememe pressure they have dealt with everything with maturity and calmness. Each one we saw interviewed was articulate and a credit to your university. Virginia Tech obviously has an extraordinary group of students.
The other thing which impressed us was the attempts on the parts of so many people at Virginia Tech -faculty and students - to reach out to the disturbed person who was responsible for the carnage. It is apparent that no matter how people tried to help him it was impossible to prevent what he did.
We will keep you all in our prayers.

My deepest sympathy to all the members of the Hokie Family.  Especially those who lost someone of had someone injured.  Although I am not a Hokie I have many friends who are and I am a big Hokie sports fan.  While I may not be entitled and it may be too soon to talk about a memorial, I would like to share my thoughts before I loose them.  I would suggest a memorial designed like a compass.  The four points of the compass would be granite pillars in orange.  The 32 victims would be represented by 32 auburn colored granite pillars equally dispersed between the points of the compass thus equaling the 360 degrees of the compass.  This would surround a reflecting pool.  The four points of the compass would represent that those who died came from not only around the country but the world.  Each of the 32 pillars would have an image of the victim and a brief bio.  The reflecting pool who give those who visit a chance to reflect on the individuals, their lives and contributions and the events which happened at VT.

April 19, 2007, 8:53am • Richmond, Virginia • #28467

The Virginia Tech family is in our hearts, thoughts and prayers.  Our only child chose to attend VT over other choices closer to home.  VT became his home away from home.  We visited the campus over 20 times, not once regretting his decision to attend VT.  Our son was a member of the Corps of Cadets, now serving in Iraq as is our daughter-in-law now serving overseas as well.  We have nothing but beautiful wonderful memories of the university having made life long friends.  We are all saddened by this tragic event but God walks with you all and will guide you through.  We know our Son would have chosen to stay with his Buds and fellow Hokies if he were there now because you/they are always in the best memory places of our hearts - once a Hokie, always a HOKIE.  Our hearts and prayers follow those who choose to return to their families to grieve privately.  Hopefully the media will be responsible enough to show the world what we all know about the great school VT is & concentrate on the thousands of beautiful young people and staff there & not the one sad individual who did this evil event.  May God Bless - Hokies will rise above it all, that’s who we are and this is the UNITED State of America.

I am a May ‘06 Virginia Tech graduate and still visit campus every couple weeks.  This hardship has been shocking and draining, yet I have never felt more like a Hokie these past few days.  I did not know any victims personally, but grieve as if they were family.  This tragedy has truly stabbed at the heart of the Virginia Tech community, but it is this heart we share that can never be broken.

May all who are affected by this terrible tragedy find comfort in each other and in the strength of community that you all seem to have at VT.
