Condolences, April 19, 2007

Dear Hokies,

All of us at Mississippi State University are praying and sharing in the Maroon experience.  I have been learning of the victims and see that all did not deserve their fate that day.  I am praying for all affected.

Remember to keep your face toward the sunshine so you cannot see the shadows.  Only time will heal even though we can never forget 4-16-07.

My thoughts and prayers are with the families, students, and teachers of VA Tech.  These kids should never have been subjected to such horror in their lifetime.  They should be supported, cared for,and comforted. Please listen to them and let them talk, talk as much as they want and need to.  My heart goes out to everyone and anyone connected to this horrid tragedy.

On behalf of our congregation, I want to offer our prayers as we share in a small part of this awful tragedy. We have posted this prayer outside our church on a busy London street, and passersby have joined in prayer on your behalf.

God of boundless compassion, our only sure comfort in distress:
Look tenderly upon your children,
overwhelmed by loss and sorrow.
Lighten our darkness with your presence
and assure us of your love.
Enable us to see beyond this place and time,
and believe the Good News of life after death.

I’d like to offer condolences to all of the families and friends who lost someone in this tragedy. It’s a shame that it’s happened, but let’s not let those who died do so in vain! I’m heartbroken this happened so close to my home and pray it will never happen again...anywhere! No one should have to send their child to school only for them never to return because of such circumstances…

I’ve seen it everywhere “Right now we are all Hokies!” That’s so true. I am a Christopher Newport University Captain and my husband is a West Virginia Mountaineer. Today we hurt with you because something like this happened in our own backyard to our friends and family. Stay strong Hokies, you have many more people in your Hokie Nation than you think who are all praying for you! The Lord is with us all, don’t forget him now when we need him most.

Fallen Angel

Poem by: Grace Chen
Date/Time of Posting: Jan 8 2001 / 22:15:44

Down to earth,
Feet on the ground,
I look straight ahead,
Don’t turn around.

In all I do
I’m here for you
I’m your Fallen Angel.

Stretch my arms,
Reach to the sky,
My wings are broken,
But I need to fly.

Look at me.
I’m not what you see,
I’m a Fallen Angel.

Fly high,
Where the Eagle sings.
Fly high,
Fix these broken wings.

I’m just a young dove
Who had danced just up Above
But I’m a Fallen Angel

A breath of wind.
A whisper of sound.
I rise through the mist
With my feet off the ground.

Help me fly,
Don’t let me die.
I’m your Fallen Angel.

I want to fly…
I want to feel the air beneath my wings…
But I’m down here.
Broken, hurt, and reaching.

You see me all day,
Don’t brush me away,
I’m a Fallen Angel.

God be with you all.

My thoughts and prayers are with you all. Yesterday I received an email that said, “the will of God will never take you where the Grace of God will not protect you” I read it and thought, yea right, it did not help those students but then the person that did this was not doing the will of God and though we may not ever understand why this happened, we must always believe that the Grace of God will protect us as he now protects the ones you love so dearly.May God bless you hearts.

I work as a Learning Support Assistant with people who exhibit similar “lone” behaviour characteristics to Cho Seung-Hui, and have some measure of understanding of how he felt, and how you must feel in the light of the tragedy that he created. I can assure you that the hearts and sympathies of everyone I have spoken to here at Truro College, Cornwall, UK, goes out to all of you in the USA. Your tragedy is also ours.
