In all the world there is nobody, nobody like you. Since the beginning of time there has never been another person like you. Nobody has your smile, your eyes, your hands your hair.  You are Special. Nobody in the universe sees things as you do. In all time there has never been anyone who laughs in exactly your way so you are Special.  You are the only one in the whole creation who has your particular set of abilities.  Nobody in the universe can reach the quality of the combination of your talents your feelings. Like a roomful of musical instruments you excel in one way or another but nobody can match the symphonic sound when all are played together.Through all eternity no one will ever walk talk or think exactly like you. You are Special. You are rare and in all rarity there is enormous value. You are Special and it is no accident you are. There is a job for you to do that nobody else can do as well as you can. Out of the billions of applicants only one is qualified. Only one has the unique and right combination of what it takes and that one is you. You Are ALL VERY Special

I iwsh to express my sincerest condolences to those involved in the tragic events that occurered on the 16th April. I cannot imagine what those involved are feeling, in the aftermath of such unnecessary random violence.

I do believe that this raises a question of gun control in the united states, and was saddened to hear that the retailer who sold the weapons, felt the solution lay in arming all students against such a threat.

I cannot imagine anyone in college education would wish to carry a gun to class, just in case.

The constitution may well embrace the right to bear arms, but when this was written the country was in a different time and place.

It will take a brave politician to attempt to change constitution, but how many more shootings will it take before such change is suggested?

My thoughts go out to those involved. Please don’t give the perpetrator the satisfaction of his actions.

Sincerest Regards

Richard Womersley

Not one person can imagine the pain, suffering, and confusion that you are experiencing now.  No viewer in front of the television can begin to contemplate the reality of the echoing gun-fire.  Unless one has been in your footsteps, we cannot imagine the horror that the great Hokie community has just been thrust into.
We, as viewers, were all awestruck, but we were not there.  We were safe in our homes, offices, schools; witnessing the worst example of evil unjustice this country has ever seen.
To the staff and students and family’s, you are hero’s.  YOU ARE HERO’S!  You have been through the most intense, traumatic experience humanly possible.  The thoughts of the entire world are focused on one thing right now.  You… Virginia Tech… The Hokies… The Hero’s.  You all portray the meaning of dignity, integrity, courage, and heroism.  You have set an example for schools.  You have set an example for the America.  We will not forget the very high price that this has cost us.  Be strong.  Mourn now, but know that you have the entire planet together, supporting you.  Be proud, because you are hero’s.  Hampton Roads is praying for you; the students, the staff, and the family’s.  You are hero’s.

A deep lesson this is and one not to be forgotten, not for the cost and the value that it has shown and from which we can learn. I do not mean only the pain, but the rising of spirit and soul within a community that extends beyond the borders of one campus, one town.

We must not let this slide by into passive memory.  These thirty-two were not only unique and irreplaceable as individuals, but together they are something even more remarkable.

Although it is early perhaps, I am moved to make a concrete suggestion and an offer for creating a lasting “installation” that will have constructive value and meaning for the lives, values, dreams and hopes of these thirty-two students and faculty.

The details are in a short PDF file at

I have made this suggestion with the backing and promise to be able to see that it is implemented.  Naturally there may be many other plans, ideas, designs.  But conventional memorials, plaques and the like are not enough of what is needed, just as conventional explanations and answers do not work for this tragedy, not for the families and friends, not for the “All” of us.

It is never easy in a time like this to say the right words, but all that we can ever hope for or believe in, lies with God. Through his patience, mercy, and love, we still find relief in his comfort. The answers may never come or heal your broken hearts, but his spirit will shield you and you will find comfort there. Take your time to remember, relect, mourn, and even cry, but also celebrate the the time that you did have and cherish them forever. My love and prayers are with you all. Your lost is a lost to the world and know that we mourn also for a big part of OUR future has been taken from us as well.

When things go wrong as they sometimes will,
when the road you are trudging seems all uphill,
when the funds are low and the debts are high,
And you want to smile but you have to sigh,
when care is pressing you down a bit,
Rest if you may but dont quit.

Life is queer with its twist and turns,
As everyone of us sometimes learns,
And many a failure turns about.
When he might have won had he stuck it out;
Dont give up, though the pace seems slow-
You might succeed with another blow....

So stick to the fight when you are hardest hit-
It’s when things get worse that you musn’t quit!
Believe in your dreams despite the situation - dont believe in your despairing thoughts;
Have faith in your faith and doubt your doubts.
Trust in your hopes - never trust in your hurts.
And you will move on eventually, effectively, inspiringly to faith’s final phase: The cresting phase.

Virginia Tech when faced with a mountain,
Do not quit!
Keep on striving until you climb over,
find a pass through, tunnel underneath
or simply stay and turn the mountain
into a gold mine with GOD’S help.

I know it’s been said over and over, but please accept my deepest prayers and sympathies for all involved.  What a horrible tragedy - the loss of so many young people who were getting ready to go out into the world and who had bright futures ahead of them, to be so brutally cut down.  And the loss of two instructors who were helping these young people.  It just doesn’t seem fair.  Again, my prayers are with everyone affected by this horrible event.  God bless you.  - Sue Collins
