Condolences, April 18, 2007

As a Radfurd Alum and a past VT Public Relations person, as well as a marrying a man from a long line of Hokies, I want to send our deepest condolences to those killed, wounded or frightened by the recent shootings.  You are in our hearts and prayers- each and every day!  And remember, if God wasn’t a Hokie, why are the leaves maroon and orange on the fall? He will watch over all of you! The Foreman Family-

Our thoughts and prayers are with all of you in this very sad time.  I can not tell you how proud you have all made me feel after seeing interviews of students and faculty at VT.  I am expressly disappointed in the media’s heartless treatment of the Pres. Steger and the Police Chief.  Godspeed to both of you!  You are fine people!  Let us not forget the gunman is responsible for his heinous acts, forget the fingerpointing and move on from this together.

VT students, faculty, alumni and families are in our thoughts and prayers. What a senseless tragedy. Watching the news this morning with the candelight vigil brought tears to my eyes. It’s wonderful to see how strong you are.

Oh how I wish I could
A 9/11 Memorial/and 4/16/07

By Shabnam Chowdry © 2001
The day started like any other day
We said our good byes on that September day
Never in my wildest dreams could I see
That the love of my life be taken from me

But oh how I wish I could
Reach up to the heavens and touch the stars
I know in my heart that’s where you are
I’d tell you all the things I didn’t get to say
Hold you tight and say I love you
This to God I beg, I pray, This to God I beg, I pray

Still can’t believe that you are gone
Sad to say that life goes on
So many dreams they were shattered for me
Can’t believe such a monster could do this to me

I reached into the closet and grabbed what you wore
The scent of your skin still haunts me more
I cried so much and almost lost my way
Not a day goes by that I can’t say

I’m at the gravesite with an empty heart and an empty soul
My arms are aching cause it’s you I want to hold
A day won’t go by, that I’ll see your face
All those memories, I just can’t erase

They tell me you’re in heaven now
Safe from harm and safe from pain
It’s good to hear till I see you again
In my heart I’ll never forget you
The Love we had still remains

Dear all,
my deepest condolences to all of the victims of the shooting on april 16, 2007. I want to share a thought of mine with you. My school had a man come in and talk about school bullying. People who get bullied are most likely to be the one to commit the crime. If we keep on bullying people (exluding, physical, etc.) the school tragitys will continue. I want to pray for all of criticly injured students and teachers and hope that they survive

VT Friends and Collegues,

I am a VT alumnus, and am so deeply saddened by this horrible tragedy.  I have been choking back the tears ever since 4/16.  It is hard to believe that it happened at MY school.  The entire VT community is in the thoughts and prayers of my wife and I.  We can all take courage that God is with us and will guide our paths.  God bless all of you, my fellow Hokies.

As I sit here in Antigonish, Nova Scotia and hear about the tragedy that has happened, I am saddened. I heard that a former Nova Scotia teacher was one of the victims, without hearing a name I open up this mornings daily paper and realize that the teacher was Jocelyne Couture-Nowak. Right away tears come to my eyes, I was a student at the Insitute for Human Services Education in Truro, Nova Scotia and had the pleasure of having her as my instructor for 2 years. I am deeply saddened by this tragedy and can’t even begin to imagine what the families of the victims are going through. As well as the faculty and students of the school. My prayers and thoughts are with you all in this tragic time.

I don’t know anybody from Virginia Tech, but still feel the sadness and want to help in anyway to lessen the pain and hurt that these families and students are going through.

So many people around the globe are thinking about those families that are effected and so many others want to do something about preventing this kind of senseless violence. This may be the time to start acting on ways to prevent/minimize issues facing troubled kids. This may be the time to control the ways those kids can find accessories to show their anger. This may be the right time to start because so many people are willing to listen and act now, while this tragedy is in their minds.

I am lost for words to tell you how sorry I am for all your loss. I can’t imagine what parents, students, and faculty of VT are feeling. I am the mother of 4 young children that aren’t even school age and I am so scared for them to get older because of senseless acts of cruelty like this. Please remember everyone in the nation is praying for you and you are in my thoughts and prayers as well. God keep you and bless you all.

Oh dear Hokies how my heart goes out to you, you are suffering as no community should suffer.  Let me share the following piece from the late Winston Churchill:

“we shall draw from the heart of suffering itself the means of inspiration and survival”

The composure and caring being demonstrated by your students and faculty during these difficult times should be an inspiration to Virginia, the Nation and the rest of the World - bless all of you, you are everything that is right about America.
