Condolences, April 18, 2007

I’m so sorry this has happened in such a beautiful place. I am an alum and have a special place in my heart for Blacksburg.  All of us who know and love the area will make sure that Blacksburg, VT, and the Hokies are remembered for the beautiful places and people they are and not for the terrible tragedy that happened this week. To the families who have lost loved ones, I offer my sincere condolences.  I’m praying for you and for all members of the VT community. We will all heal.

Words fail me.  Some darkness creeps into every soul at times, but this young man was taken by it and we can see the destruction it brings.  Today I hurt for you, and I mourn & cry with you.  Tomorrow, may we all bravely take that first step together toward light and life, and promise ourselves & those whom we lost (for we have all lost these beloved friends, at least for now) that we will not allow darkness to triumph.

As a faithful Virginia Tech Alumni, I have been overwhelmed with sadness regarding this tragic event in Blacksburg. My prayers are with each of the victim’s families, the students, staff, families, and other alumni from Tech. We are a family of Hokies and bound by strong spirit and strength. I am hopeful that the days and weeks ahead will be filled with peace for those directly involved in this terrible event. We are Hokies! We are strong! Viewing the candlelight vigil this evening, I was filled with amazing pride in “my” school, “our” school. God be with you.

We want to extend our deepest sympathy to all of you Hokies and your families. It is going to be tough for all of you for sometime, but you will all make it through and somehow even become stronger people. JUST REMEMBER THAT YOU ARE NOT ALONE......God bless you all!!!!! The Post Family.
This is a poem I carry with me all the time, it was given to me when I lost a loved one. I read it when I have a day when I feel something is missing in my life. Not sure who the author is but....."The Broken Chain”
“ We little knew that morning that god was going to call your name. In life we loved you dearly, in death we do the same. It broke our hearts to lose you, you did not go alone, for part of us went with you the day God called you home. You left us peaceful memories, your love is still our guide. And though we cannot see you, you are always at our side. Our family chain is broken and nothing seems the same, but as God calls us one by one the chain will link again.” Author unkown???? GOD BLESS TO ALL OF YOU!!!! Begin your healing!!!!

Having lost my husband four years ago, I know the pain of losing someone.  His death was not at someone else’s hand though and I do not know how different this would be in the grieving process.  I can tell you however that the pain you feel will lighten....the memories will not.  Cherish the memories of the lost and speak to them daily as they will hear you and help you in an un-noticed way.  My thoughts and prayers are with you.

My prayers and condolences go out to the VT family and those who lost loved ones and friends in this senseless act of violence. While we will never forget the tragic events that will certainly shape your lives, time will dull the pain and grief that you feel right now. As a former resident of Southwest VA with close ties to VT, I am very proud of how the VT family has responded to this crisis. You have represented yourselves and the university well during this horrific ordeal, and for that you should hold your head high. God Bless and keep you.

In the midst of pain and grieving, let us not forget those whose lives were cut short, but also those things which made them Hokies, which made them a integral piece of Tech, which makes it so hard to deal with their passing, which makes Virginia Tech the greatest school and greatest community in the world.

No words can make the pain disappear, but thoughts and memories and the will to move forward can.
