As an alumni of this great University, I am deeply saddened by the past events of April 16th, 2007.  This feels like a nightmare that we can’t wake up from.  The Hokie Nation is an incredible family and as all strong families, we will prevail through this extremely difficult time.  I know that VA Tech will find some goodness from all this evil and all of your sympathy and condolences are more appreciated than you may know.  This is not a local, state, or national tragedy...the World feels our pain.  I thank you for your thoughts and prayers.

I’m sad, we need to change, all of us, love and understanding don’t belong to our world; we’re involved pushing down each-other every day.
I’m better than you, we’re better than them...Envy and Hate are surrounding us. Stop for a minute and try to think to all the people me’ve made cry...and STOP selling Guns!

Your loss is immeasurable. I am on the other side of the world and am still in deep mourning over this tragic incident. As a university lecturer myself, I am struck with how valuable our relationships within our respective institutions are; I am also suddenly aware of their fleeting nature.

As my students prepare for their midterms, I will remind them how lucky they are to be in a class, to take exams, to have the opportunity to learn, to be alive.

All I can offer you now is my love and prayers. Please accept them in peace.

The mercy of God and the power of pray will help all those who are suffering with the pain and grief of this tragedy. The family of the shooter needs prayers even more as they not only lost their son but also bear the burden of his actions. It may be too soon for forgiveness but it must eventually be embraced in order to move forward in life. God help and God bless all of you.

There are times like this that we, many nations, come together in support of one another.  As your Professor stated yesterday during the convocation, “we need each other, and we need to go to those who can help in many different especially those who can offer the BEST hugs.” Each and every one of you associated with VT, need to lean on us as a coutry, and nation.  Your prayers are with us and we continue to pray for you as you try to move on.  There’s been little time since Monday that I’ve moved from my television set.  Even though I have no connection with the school or the factalty, we cry.  And we all need to.
Peace be with you all.

Out of this terrible tragedy comes something good.
First, all the students on TV seemed to represent the college well by being mature and not blaming
anyone. They conducted themselves in a Christian
manner.  Second, so many have referred to God
and prayer which is in itself a tribute to their
thoughts.  Their remarks going out on TV are a
witness to God and their beliefs....what a great
witness to the world!  The Bennie Franks family, Avinger, Texs

To all my family and friends in Blacksburg.  I continue to keep you in all my prayers and have asked those I know to do the same.  As a Hokie (ME ‘96) and a Blacksburg “native” (Blacksburg High School class of ‘91), I’ve been keeping in touch with my father (Dr. William Davis) who was in Randolph Hall (across from Norris Hall) teaching a class at the time of the tragedy, my sister also works on campus and hadn’t yet arrived when the terror began and my mother runs a downtown business and locked herself inside.  I have friends and parents of friends who work in Norris Hall, including one who was shot and managed to survive (his colleage was directly in front of him and was shot in the face and did not make it).

Although I no longer live in Blacksburg, I continue to feel strong ties to the town in which I grew up.  As the senseless acts of terrorism that hit this country on Sept 11, 2001 pulled this country together, May the sense of Hokie Pride keep us strong and together.  In the words of Nikki Giovanni, “We are Virginia Tech”.  LETS GO HOKIES!  GO TECH GO!

On behalf of everyone at Residential Mail Services, I would like to take this time to say how deeply sorry we are for the lives that were taken here on April 16th.  As we go from day to day doing our job to get mail to the student’s, they become apart of you.  We see their faces, speak to them, as well as bring their mail and packages.  We are like their family away from home.  Not only to for the student’s but for other lives, co-workers, faculity and staff.  We are family and we might not all work the same schedule, same shift or do the same job, but we are one!  WE ARE ALL HOKIES!!!!  Prayer’s and thought’s will be with the each and every family member, student, co-worker, faculity and staff, as well as each law enforcement, rescue and volunteer in the upcoming days, weeks, months and years!

What once was a small, strong, powerful Hokie Nation is now frail and vulnerable, but all of the world is part of the Hokie Nation today, and supports every Hokie touched by this devastating time. Our hearts pump orange and maroon as we feel the love and support flow through us, but we also feel the pain. We feel the suffering, and we must accept that and embrace it to mourn the loss of those we held to dear to our hearts. God Bless you all, and God Bless the Hokies.
