The Mirror

In sleep, the memories of you

come close to me.

I weep, the loss of you

too great for me.

When I awake, to see

the day anew -

in the mirror, the face

I see - is you.

I can’t remember

where I went.

Was my life, if gone,

well spent?

Who will remember me

when I am gone?

If I cannot find

where I belong.

You were my friend,

my guiding force.

Now, you’re gone;

I’ve strayed off course.

I’ve never missed someone

so much.

If I reach towards sky,

will our fingers touch?

You’ve left me here,

all by myself.

My heart torn out,

put on a shelf.

To get it back,

I must believe.

But first, I take

the chance to grieve.

Look upon me,

together we will weep.

Promise me

there’ll be relief.

I promise you

I will return.

Strong again,

my lesson learned.

You may be gone, but

your memory lives here.

This time, I live my life

regardless of the fear.

When I next awake

to see the day anew;

The mirror holds,

both me

and you.

I can only imagine the pain which you all now feel.  Please remember 1 thing, you are a survivor.  A survivor of a tremendous tragedy that no one should have to go through.  Remember to keep looking forward and keep pushing on.  It will seem hard right now, but will get easier.  Remember the way that each of those freinds touched your life and use that to guide you and carry you through.

My deepest thoughts, prayers and condolences.

My name is Sofia Snellings and I am currently a student at Appalachian State University. When I heard what happened on Monday I was completely crushed. My heart, thoughts, and prayers go out to every single person involved in this horrific tragedy.
Earlier this evening Appalachian State held a candlelight vigil on the campus mall. Looking around at the 200 hundred some students I could see the hurt and geniune love in each and every students eyes. We were all there to pay resepct to those involved in the incident and to pray for the grieving families and friends of those who did not make it.
With that being said I would again like to express my dearest sympathy and love and hope that the families and friends of the victims find peace and happiness that those that passed once gave them. You will be in my thoughts and my prayers.

While sending our thoughts and prayers to those affected by this tragedy is surely admirable—and I join you in that endeavor—I believe we must do more.

We must give our time and money, our ingenuity and persistance, and our resolve and resources to fix a broken system.  We must rekindle our sense of community and again realize our stake in each other.  We must change laws, review policies, and inspire community leaders and community members to act on their worst suspicions.  Perhaps most of all, we must never let another Cho Seung-Hui fall through the cracks.

My friends, there is much work to be done.  And we must start now.

To all those in the VT community, who have family or friends who expereienced what happened, and specifically, to those who experienced it first-hand:  Your strength and bravery now will be tested like never before.  Your resolve and internal fortitude will be needed like never before.  Only if you dedicate yourself to finding a way to get through this with strength will you get through this pain and, someday, at some time, find happiness again.  That is a promise to you all.  I know this hurts, for some it, it hurts more than anything ever imaginable.  I wish I could tell you that the hurt will stop, or go away, but there are no guarantees.  All that you can control is your attidudes.  Just have strength to get through these dark times, so that you can enjoy the sunlight again.  If you are strong, you WILL find peace again, you WILL find happiness again, you WILL find answers internally, since no answers to why this horrific event really exist.  It was a random act, and in a life filled with random occurences, it was the worst kind.  Please be strong, please love your family and friends like never before, and never, ever give up hope.  God bless you all.

As a student, I can’t imagine how you guys at V-Tech are imagining.  I honestly thought “How could this happen?”

At that moment I realized that there was no explanation.  All that can be said is we (the world!) are praying for you and you aren’t alone.

I think this tragedy shows why we must love all people. Please give your family and friends hugs because that is the way to remember everyone who passed.  The world is with you in your time of need.

With you in spirit,

Brad Spencer
