Condolences, April 18, 2007

It’s still difficult to fathom how and why such a horrific thing could take thoughts and what prayers I can offer are with you all.

I heard the news from a friend of mine in the States the day after the tragedy.  I remember spending the best years of my life as a Virginia Tech Hokie.  It’s unbearable to imagine the beautiful campus tainted the way it is.  My prayers and hopes for the future go out to all affected-students, alums, Koreans, and Americans.  My Korean associates, friends, and coworkers have asked that I extend their condolences as well.  I have received more support than I expected in my new home.  People here are truly shocked that such a crime could have been commited by a member of thier country.  Lately, I have seen so many people wearing black ribbons and Virginia Tech gear.  I hope that such an apologetic reaction is felt half a world away.

As alumni of VT, please know your pain, anger, fear and questioning extend out to all Hokies everywhere.  My wife and I extend our deepest sympathy to all the victims of this tragic event.  Virginia Tech, the people, places and feelings that make up this special place, will eventually heal.  We are Hokies, we are Virginia Tech!  We will get there together.  God bless Hokies everywhere especially those directly impacted.

Having grown up (and still living) in Blacksburg, I have been Hokie Proud for many years.  Seeing our community come together as it has since this terrible tragedy, I cannot express how TRULY proud I am to belong to such a great family.  My heart is aching for all of those who lost a loved one, were injured, or experienced the terror that was caused by this senseless act.  My eleven year old told me yesterday, “Mom, this will one day be in the history books, and I will have to tell my own children about being there”.  His statement affected me a great deal, because I realized that this will affect our future, too.

I wish to commend the many emergency personnel - the police, EMS, and hospitals - for their handling of a crisis of this magnitude.  Although it will take a very long time, my hope is that we are able to pull together as a nation, and that we can ALL be HOKIE PROUD!  Shirley Watson

After Hurricane Katrina, we saw tears and pain.  We sent food, clothes and money and hoped it might alleviate just a little suffering.

But what can we do for you, Virginia Tech?  We see your sorrow and anguish and desperately want to do something, anything, to make it better.  But we can’t.  Our money is completely powerless in the wake of a tragedy of this magnitude.

We can’t do anything but tell you over and over again how much we hold each student, each faculty and staff member in our constant thoughts and prayers.

We can’t do anything but assure you that we don’t comprehend such hatred any better than you do.

We can’t do anything but promise to be there for you, our friends, through the mourning and through the healing in the years to come.

As time goes on the images we will remember most vividly are of your community coming together to comfort and strengthen one another.  We will remember the stories of courage and selflessness.  We share your pain and grieve alongside you.

My prayers, as well as those from the Eastern New Mexico University family, are with those suffering. We pray that you find strength through your pain, and if there is anything we can do, please do not hesitate to ask.

As this nation, the state of VA, and more directly those at VA Tech mourn this horrific act of violence, I hope those affected, especially the students of VT quickly find their own peace in the aftermath of Monday’s events.  I hope life bestows upon each and every one of you, in your own life, a positive event of greater caliber to outweigh what you have been through.  The things in life which are the most difficult also make us the strongest!  My heart, thoughts and prayers are with you.

My heart grieves for all the parents.  We drip every bit of our essence into our children.  We expect for them to enjoy more than we did and suffer and struggle less than we did as well.  If you are reading this, take every day to let those around you know how much you care, no matter how brief the interaction.  A small hug, a kiss, a smile.  I am taking every opportunity as if it were my last, the terrible reality is that it may be.  I am praying for you...evvie

I would like to express my deepest condolences to the families of those who lost their lives in this tragic event. Even I, here at LSU, being several hundred miles away from VaTech, still feel a sense of shock. Things like this don’t happen that often in this country, and that’s what make it so surreal. Something like this really makes all of us aware of just how short life can be, and how we never will know exactly what tomorrow has in store for us. Again, my thoughts and prayers go out to all those affected by this event that none of us will soon forget.

I am a college student in North Carolina and I have two friends that are currently students at VT.  This incidence hits home for me not only because I know people affected directly by this, but because the college I attend recently had a shooting in one of our dorm rooms.  I know that it wasn’t anything remotely close to what happened at VT, but it still is scary because this can happen at any school around the world.  I want the students, family members, and faculty to know that I and the rest of the country are thinking about you, and praying for you.  Stay strong, and know that we are all behind you.

It saddens me to hear of what happened, but also to have to be afraid to walk in to my next class thinking that their could be someone out there with that much hate or problems. My family Keeps all of the victims in our prayers, we also pray that other students and teachers will not be afraid to go back and continue to teach and learn. I ask that god watch over the victims. I have faith that god will watch ovr us all.

Much prayers and condolence to all the students, faculty and parents of Virginia tech.
Our family can not phathom the pain and loss that everyone must feel.  But know this, God will heal your pain with growth, love, memories and most of all God will be your strength when you feel you don’t have any.
In remembering this time grow close to one another and share Christ with one another and don’t lean on your own understanding, but His, your Lord and savior.
Phillipians 4:13 will give you strength each and every day.
God Bless you all with the most loving arms.
