Condolences, April 18, 2007

To all of the students, staff and families of Virginia Tech, I cannot begin to express the sorrow I hold for all of you in my hearts.  As a parent I cannot being to imagine the pain that those parents who have lost a child are feeling at this time of unfathomable sorrow, and to you all I send my prayers and hope for God’s comfort and peace.  I also send my prayers and condolences to the families and friends of the wonderful teachers who also lost their lives this week.  They were passing on their knowledge to young minds in the hope of making this world a better place, and from what I have seen about many of the wonderful students who attend VT, both victims and survivors, those great teachers were very successful in this endeavor.

It is said that God will never give us more than we are equipped to handle.  I truly believe this holds true, even now at this darkest hour in your lives.  May you know the peace and comfort of God, and feel the prayers and the love of the millions of people around the world who are mourning your losses along with you.  I am a St. Francis College Terrier, C’80, and I send my love and prayers to the Virginia Tech Hokies - God bless you and keep you always.

It seems easy at times, to separate yourself from tragedies like this. After all, it didn’t happen to you or anyone you knew, right? Well, I keep replaying the picture slide show of “the victims” and I am RAW with disbelief, disgust and sadness, as each face flashes by. These “victims” were mothers, fathers, sisters, brothers, children, teachers and friends. Each had a life that touched others in someway that can never be replaced. We need to be conscious of this, especially as the “Top news story” focuses on the “killer” or “largest shooting in US history,” rather than the individual significance of those lives lost.
I send my deepest sympathies to all whose lives were forever changed by this unimaginable event.

As with everyone else, I wish there was more I could do to help ease your pain and give you comfort, to aid in the healing. We all share your pain; we all need healing and comfort for this deep sorrow. You have millions upon millions of friends, brothers and sisters thinking of you and wishing you the warmest thoughts. We cry for and with you.

When Virginia Tech comes to Nebraska to play football in 2008, all Hokies will be welcomed to Lincoln and our state with wide open arms.

Sincere Blessings,

Robert W. Jordan

Over the past several days my heart has been, and continues to carry an unbelievable weight of sorrow. I have wrecked my brain over and over, trying to figure out how something like this could happen. In the midst of my sorrow, I am reminded that God is too wise to make a mistake, and too just to do wrong. Therefore, I will continue to pray: that we may find the light, during this dark time.

God Bless VTECH!

We are very sad about the losses of life and the brutal wounds afflicted both physically and emotionally on the faculty, students, family and friends.

All of our girls value education and look forward to college one day.  The students and faculty ‘Hokie’ family is a model of committment, sharing and hope these girls will carry with them through Junior High and High School.

Green of spring
expecting what
life brings
with a deep breath
of sun
eyes wide open
life is good
yet now denied
reality defied
left only with
one another
each a father
and mother
to the other
hold on tightly
and listen
to the weeping carillon.

It’s hard to find the words to express the depth of sadness I feel due to the recent events.  It’s unfathomably harder for you to go through what you are all experiencing at this moment.  Some of you were in the classroom, some on campus and some were at home or work while your loved ones were put in harm’s way.

You will make it through this, with the love of your friends, family and those of us around the country and the world who care.

You are in my thoughts.

For the parents, and siblings of the students and faculty that were lost that terrible tragic day. I wish to send my deepest condolences.
I’m shocked and deeply bewildered to think this could happen to innocent people going about there daily routine. I can’t stop watching the news since Monday, staying home from work and crying as this is all unfolding day by day.  Please know that you are not alone, we all here with you even though we are miles away. As a parent, it feels like it happend to me, and my heart breaks with every picture they show and tell about each person. I can’t even imagine how it is for you. They were wonderful, beautiful people who will never be forgotten.
