Condolences, April 18, 2007

My family and I want you....the students, faculty, friends and family members of those lost,to know that we truly send our deepest condolences to you.  Our hearts break for you and pray that you somehow fine peace.  I cannot even fathom what you are going through.

As a native Virginian, I am proud of Va Tech and how you all have handled this unimaginable event.  Stay strong, we are all there with you.  We will all be wearing maroon and orange Friday in memory and respect for the students lost.  We will wear those colors with pride.  And not just our family will do this...but there is widespread talk of this all in the DC area.  Its all for you....

From a Tennessee Tech alum...I want you to know that you are in the hearts, minds and prayers of this campus and city.  I am angry at the loss of such talented people of all ages.  I am confused by such an evil presence.  I’m inspired by the words of Nikki Giovanni and will stand with you, as a partner in this sorrow.  On Friday, I will mourn with you and wear your school colors in this land of TTU purple and gold.  To all associated with your great university...may God bless you and keep you.  Becky

My father graduated from VT in 1950 and both of my brothers are VT graduates as well, so we truly love the school.  I am deeply saddened by the horrendous events of Monday morning. April 16 would have been my dad’s 82nd birthday and had he been alive, he would have been devastated by this. My love and prayers go out to all the wonderful students and faculty - I pray for their healing.  I am so sorry this happened.

How do you say anything that might help?  I mourn not only for all the deaths, but for all the potential that is gone, from the professors sharing their knowledge to all the hopes and dreams of the students.  I have 2 children in college and can’t even begin to imagine what you are going through.  My thoughts and prayers are with you all.  I may not know any of you, but we are all “family” and your loved ones will not be forgotten.

At the time of my writing, there are 261 pages of condolences, words of prayer and faith for a most deserving ‘nation’… the Hokie Nation!  I am certain this number will seem miniscule in a very short time for there is an entire world of people praying for you all!  Though I could never begin to express my sorrow for your tragedy, know that you all (the friends, family and loved ones of the victims, the students, administration and faculty of VT and the Blacksburg community) are in my heart and my prayers.  You have amazed the entire world with your strength and loyalty and no doubt, have made God’s newest Angels proud!  Stand tall for your school, for your fellow students, for your fallen brothers and sisters and for YOURSELF - May God grant you peace and consolation.  Robin Cocklin and Family

I had the opprotunity to visit Va Tech when I was looking at colleges. It was and still is a beautiful campus with friendly and wonderful people. Although I chose to go to school in my home state of Delaware, I still feel a connection to Va Tech because I have had friends who have attended there and a few friends who are currently enrolled there. My thoughts and prayers are with the students, staff, and community of Virginia Tech. GO HOKIES!!!

How could an individual that is so deeply troubled purchase 2 guns.  Innocent, promising lives were lost due to an inability to protect us from those who are a danger to themselves or others. There is blood on many hands.  Rest in peace as you cross the rainbow bridge into heaven. May we all learn from this.

Our hearts break for you.  Focus on the good memories of these that were lost.  Find solace in your family and friends.  Remember that no matter what happens, you are loved and supported by many you don’t know and will never meet.  Many students may consider not finishing their degrees, but please don’t quit.  These lost would not want you to quit.  Graduate in their honor.

I do not attend Virginia Tech nor do I know anyone that goes to school there. Since Monday night I have been feeling distraught and at a loss of words about everything I have heard from others and seen on the news. Last night I was unable to rest my head on my pillow and fall asleep. For everyone who has lost a friend or family member, may god bless you. This will pass, but I want everyone to know you are all heros and you are all in our hearts. This has effected our entire country. I feel pain even though I don’t know any of you. May you find strength and unity again. Tragety can only bring people closer together when they feel there is nothing left elsewhere. I say my prayers for you.

In regards to the horrible events that took place on Monday, my heart and many others’ in and around my area go out to any and everyone who was effected by this tragedy. There are no words to express the grief and sorrow we all feel for you. Even though it may be difficult, keep looking ahead as God is watching over and protecting those faculty and students who lost their lives and their familys who are grieving now. No one ever deserves to experience what they are now and I hope and pray nothing like this will happen again.

But as well, we all know where the horrible person who commited these sinful acts is now.

May you all be blessed as we will keep you and those lives lost in our hearts and prayers!!!

My deepest condolences go to all those in the Virginia Tech community affected by this unspeakable tragedy.  From the students at the University of Kentucky to our neighbors in Virginia, we are all keeping you in our thoughts and prayers, and offer our support in these trying times.  While we cannot possibly understand what you are going through, we pray that God will help you through this.  Remember that God takes only the best, so while it seems these lives were stolen from you, we know that they are in heaven tonight, and you will one day see them again.  It is surreal how strong you have all been thus far, from interviews on the television to candlelight vigils, the Blacksburg community has shown this nation and this world what a truly special place it is, and we should all be so blessed to be as strong in our faith as your campus is.  I truly believe what your poet said on Tuesday, you will overcome this and rise again, and with that, I say rest in peace to those lost, and God bless to those who remain to carry on their memories.

Dr. E. Jennings

And if I go,
While you’re still here…
Know that I live on,
Vibrating to a different measure –
Behind a thin veil you cannot see through.
You will not see me,
So you must have faith.
I wait for the time when we can soar together again,
Both aware of each other.
Until then, live your life to its fullest.
And when you need me,
Just whisper my name in your heart,
… I will be there.

Our deepest and heartfelt sympathy on your devastating loss. We can’t imagine the heartbreak you are all enduring from this terrible and senseless tragedy.
For those who were injured, our thoughts and prayers are with you too as you recover and we know it will be a long time before you are able to return to some semblance of whatever they call “normal.” Though I am sure normal is no longer an option.

I am a senior at Virginia Tech, and this has been the greatest four years of my life. It is sad to say that my senior year has been unforgettable for all the wrong reasons. But like Nikki Giovanni said in her moving poem to the University community and the world, WE ARE VIRGINIA TECH AND WE WILL PREVAIL!  GO HOKIES! My heart really goes out to all of my fellow students, faculty, and especially the victims and their families. I am extremely sorry for your lose, and the Hokies that were unfortunate and lost their lives for the goodness of this University you will truly be missed everyday and never forgotten. Always a Hokie Forever!

Although separated by many years and many miles, the tragedy takes me instantly back to campus.  It is strange to see on the national news the locations I know so well.  I hope the outpouring of support on this website, as well as in many other forums, brings some small measure of comfort to students on campus.  Please know that you’re not alone, and that you are in the thoughts in prayers of many.
