Condolences, April 18, 2007

It breaks my heart that we have to constantly be looking over our shoulders.  My thoughts and my prayers go out to all the students, family and staff members.  When I was a kid life seemed to be so care free and now that I am a parent my children’s school not only pratices tornado and fire drills but they also pratice lock downs as well.  Time does not heal all wounds but a good support group will help.

Until today I had not cried. As I watched the Memoial Service I glanced over and saw the picture of my son as he received his college diploma. My heart aches knowing that as I looked at his picture this is what these young people were looking forward to. They all had hopes and dreams that were taken from them. You are all in my heart and prayers. Today I cried, today I grieved, today I prayed. May God comfort your hearts and help you to heal and support each other

I was in class this morning and I heard about what had happened....I could not believe my ears. Words cannot describe what the family members of the victims are going through. My prayers are with everyone affected by this tragedy. The affects of this horrible tragedy will heel with time, but it will never be forgotten.

Virginia Tech will prevail and will continue to be the great university that it is and has always been.

My condolences and prayers go out to the families who’s lives were forever altered yesterday. Words can not express the shock & horror I feel as a Virginia Tech alum. Future Hokies, I hope you will still consider claiming your spot with this wonderful University in this amazing corner of the world. Sadly Blacksburg and VT will never be the same. But Hokie spirit will always live on! Take care.

Dear Students, Faculty and Families,

My thoughts are with you as you begin to recover from this tragic event. Give yourself time to grieve and to cry .... you will never forget ...but also do not let four hours of violence re-define your entire life. Be you. Be strong.

My condolences are to the entire Tech community but I do wish to send my deepest condolences to the Virginia Tech Police Department.  You did your job, you followed procedure, and tried your best to serve and protect to the best of your ability.  As a former campus police officer, police officer and federal agent know that your brothers and sisters in blue stand with you in your time of need.

I was flipping through the channels and i came across CNN where i saw that there was a shooting at VTech. I still remain in shock and disbelief at the events that unfolded at such a beautiful campus and loving community. Even though I do not personally know anyone at VTech I feel like i have a very close connection to all of the students. I had moved away from home and attended Michigan State just a few years ago and could never imagine events of this magnitude ever having occured. I called my younger brother who is at Michigan State when i found out about the tragic events and told him that I LOVED HIM. It deeply saddens me that I was fortunate to tell my brother I loved him yet students and families will never be able to express their feelings to the loved ones they lost ever again. I just want all of the students and families to know that the whole nation is behind you. Stay strong and celebrate the lives of all of the amazing students and faculty members who senslessly lost their lives on April 16, 2007. And do not forget to tell any family, friends that you love them while you have the chance because tomorrow might not be an option. It always feels good to be a Spartan but right now it feels even better to be a Hokie.

It is difficult to swallow the harsh realities of the world, but at times such as this it feels as though strangers across the nation become family and close friends.  I am a student from the University of British Columbia in Vancouver, Canada, and although I have no connection to VT or even Virginia itself, I know we all share something in common - We are not only students, but daughters, brothers, fathers, mothers, husbands, wives, and if anything, we are friends.  Although I may never meet the family and friends of the 32 beautiful lives tragically taken, you are all with me in my prayers, my heart and my thoughts.  You all share a connection with one another and with all of us who connect with you at this time of sorrow, and we at UBC open our hearts to you as friends.  You are all in the hearts of many, and I hope that through all this we can continue to move on together as a nation of family and of friends.

With Prayers and Love,
Safia and the students of UBC

I was so inspired by watching the Convocation yesterday on TV.  The Virginia Tech Community will survive this horrible tragedy and will thrive again.  I want to also express how moved I was by the words and actions of Nikki Giovanni as she said what everyone was thinking.  I cried when I saw the community come together with the “Let’s Go Hokies” college cheer.  My thoughts and prayers are with you all.

I’m a student at Texas State University in San Marcos, TX. I wish to express mine, my family’s, and some of my classmates’ deepest condolences for your losses. Please know that my family and I are praying for the students, families, faculty, staff, and community. There is so much that I would like to say, however I can’t put into words. There is a song by Casting Crowns called Love Them Like Jesus and I wanted to share it with you. This song verbalizes what I would like to say. I pray that God brings you comfort and blessings to all of you as you grieve over this horrific loss. Now if there is anyone that just needs someone to listen to you can email me and I will listen. My name is Stephanie Wilkinson and my email address is There is also a prayer at the end of this song as well that I have typed for you. I will have to make another post to post the song for you.

Father, God if you’re here right now, we have friends and family going through a storm in their life. Father, just remind us there is not one time that they have slipped your mind. You are an awesome sovereign holy daddy. You love them more than we do. Father, all we need to do is to love them like Jesus. In your name we pray. Amen

I must offer my sincerest condolences and I will have everyone in my prayers and I would like to send you a poem that I have written.  I wrote it about two years ago and you have proven that no one has forgotten we the people for the people.  I applaud the students, staff, faculty, professors, teachers, law enforcement, emt’s, doctors, nurses, everyone that had to endure and go through this campus tragedy. Each and every one should be applauded for what you have stepped up and done, you showed that we the people, could work together even when we were losing people that we loved and cared about and we will never see again
Remember the memories of the people we lost that day we should never have lost them. But by losing the loved ones that you lost they continue to show us how precious the time we spend with family and friends is and the appreciation of how precious life is. May god bless us all. Sincerely Elbert Lee Dunkle

To the students and faculity of Virginia Tech, you are in our prayers, we grieve for your lose and hope that time will heal some of the pain. It will never go away. As a mother of a child who is a senior at a collage in Pa not very far from VT, I too felt great concern for him as well, but I can only imagine the grief the families of the lost loved ones have to indore. This was a selfish act on the part of the accused and may he pay his price for what he has done to so many wonderful students who would have no doubt gone on to be the best of the best!! I send special hugs to all the VT students and my prayers and condolences to the families of the loved ones they lost. May god bless each and every one of you and hold your loved ones in his loving arms.

My heart goes out to all those who lost their dear lives from this senseless act. I pray that their families begin the healing process. I ask that we need not blame anybody; the admin or the police. No body could have prevented this act except God Himself and He knows why it happened.
