Condolences, April 18, 2007

Our prayers and thoughts to all the victims and their families. And to Dr. Steger and all VT staff. Our hearts go out to you as you are forced to deal with such a negative press - always looking to place blame. You cannot stop madness. May God bless you during this time.

My sincere condolances are sent to the VA TECH family at this most sad and tragic time.  Of all of the bad this incident has caused I must say as a native Virginian I am very proud to say that this institution is a part of the state that I love so.  What has made me proudest is how the Hokie family has handled the situation with dignity and grace.  To the students I would like to say a sincere Thank you for helping Virginia and the USA begin to heal through your sincere comments, impessive intellect and class.  Please know that we are with you.  God Bless you.

After the news of the NBC News package came over the airwaves this afternoon on the West Coast, I finally unglued myself from the television long enough to go run some errands. I thought, “This is healthy - get out of the house. The best way to celebrate the lives of others is by living your OWN life to the fullest.”

I only got two blocks before I saw several flags in my neighborhood at half mast, as well as a VT logo on someone’s living room window.

The thought hit me that, though we may be so physically far apart from one another when a tragedy like this strikes, we’re never very far away from each other at all in spirit.

From the left coast to the right, know that the hearts and minds of the nation are turned towards Virginia. We love you and are standing by you all, with our hearts overflowing with love and loss, just as yours do.

With deepest respect and symapthy,
Derek Munson

The incredible strength, courage, community and love that the VA Tech students are showing gives me enormous hope for the future that they will be creating. They, and their parents, teachers and faculty, are heros in the midst of tragedy, a heroic couragous community that is showing us all how deep mourning can include the spirit of hope of continuation. I grew up in Virginia, and have friends who are alum. My heart is grieving with you, and candles are lit in solidarity.  With great love as you go forward.

Although I may not always agree with our leader, he did say something at the convocation that I think was very inspirational. “People you don’t even know are praying for you.” While I will most likely never meet any of you in my lifetime I want you to know that my thoughts and prayers are with you. I have personally lost many loved ones and know the agony and loss that you are suffering. Please know that there are brighter days ahead, and that one day we will look back and be able to rejoice in the lives of these great individuals and not feel so much pain.

To the President, Faculty, Students and Parents at Virginia Tech,

The sheer loss is difficult to fully appreciate.

May all parties be brought closer together, appreciate the need to support one another at this difficult time.

To the parents, the siblings of those lost; please accept the writer’s sincere condolences.

This includes those of the young South Korean boy, who may be to blame. But it should be recognized that he himself may have needed help, from those around him, and he did not receive it.

May this also result, in all parties raising the alarm bell, to remove all firearms from America’s citizens, save for those in law enforcement (and licensed and certified sport aficionados). It is time for America to change its ways being with the right to carry arms. The lax laws in the State of Virginia for acquisition of arms, is truly unacceptable, and truly difficult to understand, in this modern world.

With best wishes to all those have suffered,

Although I’ve done nothing but cry every time I watch the news, read an article, or view pictures of the innocent people whose lives were taking on April 16, 2007, this is all I can think about!

My thoughts and prayers are with all who are affected by this tragedy...the mother that has lost a son, the father that has lost a daughter....the brother that has lost a sister, the sister that has lost a brother...I send my deepest condolences!

May God Bless the students and faculty members who aren’t here with us today, as well as those who are injured...get well soon!

God Bless!!!

As a VT alum living in Chicago, I have never been more proud to be a Hokie than in the past 3 days.  I have been wearing my VT sweatshirt all over the city this week, and nearly every single person I have come into contact with has offered condolences and sympathies.  The entire nation is not only grieving with us, but is deeply impressed by the poise and grace shown by the students and faculty.  Thank you for showing such amazing strength and resolve to take care of each other, and displaying to an international audience what being a Hokie really means.
God Bless You.

I am very sorry for your loss. It is very devastating to know that someone could take away so many wonderful lives. I pray for you. I am a student at The Ohio State University, and at 3:00pm today, our belltower played a VT song, and we had a moment of silence. Life will become normal again, and may your community come closer. God bless.

To the students, faculty and families of Virginia Tech,
We may not know each other personally but in this country we gather around each other as a family.  To comfort, to give strengh and hope, to pray and to care.  You are wrapped in our hearts as yours are surely broken.  In time the unbearable pain will be manageable. In time memories will bring healing and hope. For now-lean on us and know how much we care.
