As an instructor at a private university in Florida, I am deeply saddened by this tragic loss of life. My prayers go out to everyone of you that are involved. I would like to share a song I wrote for a friend I lost some years ago in the hope that you will find a measure of comfort in the words.

It’s time to say good-bye, for I will not pass here again. Do not mourn, do not cry, just think of me now and then.
We have come this far, but now my journey must end. But I can stay here in your heart, if you think of me now and then.
Remember the smile upon my face. Remember the warmth of my embrace. Remember me as a good friend. And think of me now and then.

They seem so far away now, the ones we love, beyond our touch and beyond any means for them to touch and comfort us. Now it is up to us to comfort one another.

What keeps us alive,
what allows us to endure?

I think it is the hope of loving,
or being loved.

There is no explanation. There are no reasons why.
Only the sad reality for the ones at Va. Tech who died
Some may choose to be mad and point a finger to blame
But that won’t bring them back from an act that was insane.

It is hard to even think about what happened on this day
It hurt the heart to watch what all the students had to say
Tragic, painful, and surreal and all thoughts soon turn to grief
To think that this could happen is far beyond rational belief.

Impressive are our youth there. More proud we could not be
Mature beyond their years. By word and action it was plain to see
May you heal and grow and sort it out. It’s clear you love your school
Don’t quit on life or your education because of the actions of a fool.

No one can live in fear; for that is no life at all.
Mountains we all must climb; from cliffs we sometimes fall
Make the most of every day. Persevere and carry on
To write another chapter; to sing another song.

Sing on Va. Tech. Be brave and pass this test.
Sing on Va. Tech. Go forward and do your best
Tragedy is part of life and we pray time will heal the wounds
Sing on Va. Tech. So beautiful are your tunes.

Dear all.
I am writing from Denmark and send all my best thoughts to all of you in this insane and not comprehendible situation. In 1994 I was a student at Aarhus University in DK, and one day a seriously disturbed student came in with a gun and killed two students and wounded many others before he killed himself. I was at the campus, but did stay safe in a room next door. I just want to say to all of you, who experienced this: My thoughts goes to you. Stay as strong as you can, but do also remember to talk to your relatives, friends and family about it. Talking, repeating and going through all the details of the day was how I learned to cope with the horrifying day. Though the bad memories always will stay in my heart, I have learned, that every person DO have the ability to get though the sorrow and horrifying memories some way or another. It just takes a long time to heal. Promise me to give yourself that time… With all my best wishes and also many thoughts to the one, who lost their beloved, Kamilla Hasen,
