You are a wonderful close community, as we have all seen in the last few days………this alone will keep you going.

To my fellow Hokie brothers-sisters, families, and friends:
The solidarity you have shown, Rising Again when brought down to one knee, will forever show how we are all bound to one great cause: That I may serve… How proud I am to be part of this family. So I light this candle, with the same enduring flame.
In mind and heart,

To all who were effected by this terrible tragedy, I will keep you in my thoughts and prayers.  I’d like to share a poem that I was asked to write for a friend after her 19 year old son was murdered back in 1995.  It won’t heal your hearts, but it did help her at some of her saddest moments.  I wrote it as if she was speaking to her son Michael:

So much to do, things I wish had been said
As I think of you today, on heaven’s pillow you rest your head.

Not a breath has escaped, not a day has gone by
When I haven’t reached for you to help me understand why.

No one can understand, no one can feel the pain
The emptiness inside is driving me insane.

I had so many plans, so much of you is so much of me
When I held you in my arms was when I truly felt free

All the smiles, all the tears
All the memories, your nineteen years
Was taken from us without a thought
And now my rage cannot be stopped

You are so much a part of me
I feel each day I can’t go on
Please walk with me and give me strenth
When I call your name and I know you’re gone

I know you’re happier where you are
I know you hear these words I say
Remember always, until I hold you again
I love you so much, Forever and a day

Prayers to all of you

I am very saddened by the loss of the lives at Virginia Tech.  The entire country mourns for the victims, families and friends of this horrific event. My thoughts and prayers are with all of you!  I commend all the students and faculty and their families for their bravery to stand strong and stand by their school and understand that this could of happened anywhere.  We are much stronger when we stand together, then to stand up individually.  Today, I believe we all stand together as a nation, stronger then yesterday and we will be even stronger tomorrow.
These lives that were taken senslessly will never be forgotten, but be in our hearts forever, whether we knew them or not.

I am very saddened by the terrible losses earlier this week, and offer my deepest sympathy with everyone who is affected.  This stifling of lives in Blacksburg, Baghdad or wherever innocent people are irrevocably taken away is so terrible and difficult to comprehend.
My thoughts are with you all, and I hope with all my heart for a more peaceful future.

My heart is so sorry for your loss for I am a mother myself and I grieve with all the other mothers out there that have been thrusted into this unbelievable nightmare. On the morning of April 19, 1995 a disturbed man killed 168 men, women and children forever changing the people of Oklahoma City. Although never forgotten, it is not memories of that ghastly act that are forefront in my thoughts but the memories of the spontaneous tributes left at the site, the letters of sympathy from around the world, the heroism of first responders, millions of dollars willingly given to honor the victims and aid the survivors, teddy bears sent by a one caring stranger to 32 children trying to understand why their friend’s mom was killed and an annual marathon run to celebrate life and engender hope.

From this most inhuman of events emerged the best of humanity; compassion, kindness, generosity, forgiveness, empathy, love, courage, hope, faith and strength. It was so for Oklahoma City and it will be for Virginia Tech and Blacksburg.

You do not mourn alone.  You will not remember alone. You will not heal alone.

My sincerest condolences to the friends and family of the deceased, the students and faculty of VT and the city of Blacksburg.

Today’s Los Angeles Times shared photographs of some of the innocent victims of this senseless, horrific crime.  These faces express so much of the hope and anticipation of a bright future.  It is with terrible sadness that I write this note of condolence to the families of the victims and the entire Virginia Tech family.  The sadness must be unimaginable...surreal.  Please know that the entire nation sends their thoughts and prayers.  And while we could never take away the pain maybe we can add some solace to the fact that you are all on our collective minds.  Sadly it is times like these that remind us that “...we are one nation under god, indivisble...”

We mourn your loss.

My heart aches for the pain and suffering you are experiencing.  When some of our finest youth and most gifted teachers become victimized, we all suffer the repercussions.  We, as a country, need to find a way to unify and work towards promoting peace, civility and brotherhood in our world.  I am going to volunteer in my community today.  We have to celebrate and value our many similarities in order to make the world a more hopeful place in which to live.  I desperately hope we can all reach out to each other in order to make life more fulfilling and to stop the polarization of mankind.
