Condolences, April 18, 2007

As the mom of a hokie student who was on campus and in her 9:00am class on Monday morning, I am profoundly saddend and devastated by the events of that day. I was one of those fortunate mom’s who got a phone call at 10:00am from my daughter telling me something was very wrong, but that she was OK. My heart is broken for all of those families who kept calling their loved one on Monday, and got no answer, fearing the worst. I cannot imagine any greater loss, than the loss of a child. All of the members and families of the Hokie community are in my thoughts and prayers, as are all of those who lost loved ones. I pray that everyone will focus on healing by celebrating the lives of those amazing students and faculty did not survive.

Its really hard to express my sympathies in words. There are no words to describe just how much my heart goes out to the campus of Virginia Tech. My prayers are with the families of each and every student and teacher that lost their lives because of the difficulties and troubles of a young man that didn’t know how to handle life. My prayer is that you all find stregnth amongst each other. Look out for each other. And thank God for each day. My sincere sympathies from the Hunsucker-Jones Family.....

There are no words strong enough to heal the damage done to those who loved the deceased. But the love shown by the families and friends and the international sorrow of that day, will forever hold them in our hearts.

Love can save us all.

I have been observing moments where the Hokie spirit has shone through: the standing ovation for your President and the Hokie cheer during your convocation; the composure and humanity in each of the students that I have heard interviewed, the thoughtfulness of your student’s blogs.

Please believe, as I do, that this spirit will bind you together and make each of you a better person. You are the future of the Hokie Nation.

Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death (or through the darkest valley),
I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me.

You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies. You anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows.Surely goodness and love will follow me all the days of my life, and I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever.

Many thoughts and Prayers,

Dear Virginia Tech friends and family,

I just want you all to know that you have been in my thoughts and prayers. I don’t know anyone on campus, but when I think of what you all have been through, and when I try to put myself in your shoes, I don’t even know what I would do. My prayer is that you all find peace through this time.

With love,

Dear Hokie Community, I can not express enough how much sadness that I feel on the incidents that occured on Monday morning. I did not attend VT but I was born a Hokie at birth by way of my father Frank Tardy who is an alumni. I love VT so much that it is still hard to comprehend what has happened. I grew up going to VT for football games so young I don’t remember the early ones and then as a child going to the duck pond to play. It is such an incredibly beautiful place that it is inconceivable that one person could scar it so badly. I will cry with you and mourn over the loss of such wonderful human beings and when I come up in the fall to attend our ritual football games I will remember . I will remember those that are lost every time I now look at my Vt logos on everything that I have and of those around me. I will not forget those that were lost but I will forget the shooter and the hatred that he had in his heart. I know that the Hokie family will get thru this and that the Hokie Nations love will prevail.
I will continue to keep all in my prayers.
May God Bless the Hokies!

To all the families and friends that have lost someone very important to them

Do not stand at my grave and weep,
I am not there, I do not sleep.

I am a thousand winds that blow.
I am the diamond glint on snow.
I am the sunlight on ripened grain.
I am the gentle autumn rain.

When you wake in the morning hush,
I am the swift, uplifting rush
Of quiet birds in circling flight.
I am the soft starlight at night.

Do not stand at my grave and weep.
I am not there, I do not sleep.
(Do not stand at my grave and cry.
I am not there, I did not die!)

I hope these words have brought you hope and comfort.

With much love

Murder of an innocent is the murder of humanity itself. I dare not say how much humanity we lost this particular day or losing every other day throughout the world. I hope someday soon every one of us realize and protect what is left of it.

My sincere condolences for the victims’ families. May Allah grant them the courage to withstand such great loss. And may the departed ones rest in peace.

Taken from Mercy Me’s song Homesick:

“I close my eyes & I see your face.
If Home’s where my heart is then I’m out of place.
Lord won’t you give me strength to make it through somehow.
I’ve never been more Homesick than now.

In Christ there are no goodbyes.
In Christ there is no end.
So I’ll hold on to Jesus with all that I am
To see you again.”

Our sincere prayers are with the entire VT community.
