To all affected by this senseless tragedy:

Although 2000 miles separate us, your losses are felt across the miles. We all look up into the same night sky and we share a bond even though many of us have never met.

We love you and are thinking of you during this time of sadness.

Im not a “Hokie” normally, but today I was.

I have never walked the grounds or sat in the classrooms that you call home. No one I know personally is enrolled there. I know only of the spirit and character produced by those of you who are making VT a part of your legacy. My heart aches for all of you in this tragic point in history. I will fly your colors proudly and respectfully for all who were lost and also for all who remain and must somehow find the strength to move on. I am encouraged that such an unspeakable situation has left so many with folded hands. When there seems no other explanation or refuge we somehow always begin the journey of recovery with prayer. It is something embedded deep within our makeup and in this time of pain and anguish, maybe turning to Him is the one certainty we all have. I wish there were something, anything, that I could do to help anyone of you right now, but prayer and hope is all I have to give. Try to allow the time you have had with those friends who are gone, be the blessing which moves you to greater things. It will honor them, and also yourself, and most of all, the God who created us.  Richard

It is a shocking event when someone takes an innocent life, much more so as the event on April 16, 2007. There are so many feelings to sort through not only for the families of the victims and the students of Virginia Tech but also the country in whole. There are people all over the country that have no affiliation with your college that are saddened and praying for you. Do not let this event defeat you. As on Sept 11th we must band together as a country, be vigilant and be determined that we will all do everything in our power to never let this type of tragedy happen again at any school in any town.
God bless you all.

You destroyed yourself,
by not seeking help

You destroyed your family,
their name forever shamed

You destroyed innocent lives,
because you were unhappy with your own

You destroyed a campus,
who will never feel safe again

You destroyed America,
with yet another tragedy to face

You destroyed a whole world,
your shots heard everywhere

What you didn’t destroy
was our FAITH, our HOPE, and our LOVE
to pick up the pieces
to bond, to unite, and to start brand new
and face this horrible disaster TOGETHER

I hope and pray that people will forgive you, and that they find peace in knowing that God will deal with you accordingly

Prayers to the family and friends and the faculty and students at VTech and anyone else affected by the events of that day 4-16-07
May they all Rest In Peace

Would you know my name
If I saw you in heaven
Will it be the same
If I saw you in heaven
I must be strong, and carry on
Cause I know I don’t belong
Here in heaven

Would you hold my hand
If I saw you in heaven
Would you help me stand
If I saw you in heaven
I’ll find my way, through night and day
Cause I know I just can’t stay
Here in heaven

Time can bring you down
Time can bend your knee
Time can break your heart
Have you begging please
Begging please

Beyond the door
There’s peace I’m sure.
And I know there’ll be no more…
Tears in heaven

Would you know my name
If I saw you in heaven
Will it be the same
If I saw you in heaven
I must be strong, and carry on
Cause I know I don’t belong
Here in heaven

Cause I know I don’t belong
Here in heaven

I am not sure if my one small voice will be heard, but I would like to think we can offer
our sincerest condolences on behalf of my family, for the tragic day yesterday and for the painful journey of grief you are about to embark upon.  Rest assured, the Nation mourns with you and personally I feel your pain as I have recently lost my rock, my love, my mother.

I have had the honor to walk your beautiful campus in 1998 and was impressed with your student body and the pristine grounds there.

Please visit a website I recently stumbled across (literally) while I was looking for tablet samples for my Mother’s memorial tablet.  The website is

VM offers a place where loved ones can be remembered, all things may be posted and created within each individual’s website to ensure that their legacy will live on and that their lives will be honored and not forgotten.

It provides everyone with a secure place to grieve, to share with others and to know that they are not alone in their pain and sorrow.

My husband was listening to NPR(National Public Radio) on his way home from work.  There was a church group that was on campus to help the students in any way they could.  They wanted a “home cooked meal”.
The church, of course accomodated their wishes.  Some of them even spent the night in the church.  It was home, comfort, and support that they needed. Their parents, in absentee.
When my husband was telling me this, he burst into tears.
We have a son at Appalachian State University. It could have been him.  We are deeply saddened by the loss of these wonderful people that could have made huge impacts on society if given a chance.
All the families of those who have lost a child and the entire Virginia Tech family are in our hearts and prayers.

Be with us all.
And, the courage
To persevere.

The horror, that
We must bear witness

There is nothing
Left to do,
But hope for;

Matthew 5:4-10
Those who mourn are fortunate! For they shall be comforted. The meek and and lowly are fortunate! For the whole wide world belongs to them. Happy are those who long to be just and good, for they shall be completely satisfied. Happy are the kind and merciful, for they shall be shown mercy. Happy are those whose hearts are pure, for they shall see God. Happy are those who strive for peace-they shall be called the sons of God. Happy are those who are persecuted because they are good, for the Kingdom of Heaven is theirs.

Matthew 22:37-40
Jesus replied, “Love the Lord your God with all your heart, soul, and mind.” this is the first and greatest commandment. The second most important is similar: Love your neighbor as much as you love yourself. All the other commandments and all the demands of the phophets stem from these two laws and are fulfilled if you obey them. Keep only these and you will find that you are obeying all the others.”

To all those whose lives have been forever altered by the events of April 16th, 2007, I pray that the outstretched arms of a loving and merciful God comforts and strengthens you at this time and in the days ahead.

We here in Oklahoma send you our love, our prayers as you begin the long process of dealing with your grief, your anger and healing. You will never forget, none of use will, but you take it one step at a time and you do move on.  We in Oklahoma know that this can happen for you as we experienced when the Murrah Building was bombed several years ago, and know that in time healing will come to each in their own way.

There is a very meaningful poem that was used at the death of the Queen Mother in England and these words seem so profound now, may they offer you comfort and hope:

We can shed tears that they are gone or we can smile because they have lived.  We can close our eyes and pray that they will come back or we can open our eyes and see all they have left. Our hearts can be empty because we can’t see them or we can be full of the love we shared. We can turn our backs on tomorrow and live yesterday or we can be happy for tomorrow because of yesterday. We can remember them and only that they have gone or we can cherish their memories and let it live on. We can cry and close our minds, be empty and turn our backs or we can do what they would want: smile, open our eyes, love and go on.

God bless you all.

It is with a heavy heart that I write this condolence.  Along with 4 other 911 dispatchers, I sat in a call center on the Virginia Tech campus and spoke with many family, friends and even acquaintances of students, facilty and staff.  The calls ranged from listening to callers pray for the university and the souls lost here to wondering if they needed to turn in their homework.  When we arrived at 1 a.m. Tuesday morning, we had no affiliation with Virginia Tech.  We leave here Hokies!

Like many all over America today I have been in front of my TV all day watching events unfold at VT.  The thing that so impressed me were the students interviewed on TV.  You all seem like such nice kids so compassionate, so bright beautiful intelligent young ladies and gentlemen.

My heart goes out to you all for the terrible losses you have suffered.  Don’t let one act of madness destroy your spirit, you are all wonderful kids and will all get through this.  God bless you all.
