Condolences, April 18, 2007

I thank the loss of my memory
Of those days when I had not a friend
I am thankful to the memory
Of those great moments when we are together

I thank the loss of my memory
Of those seconds prior to your reasonableness
I am thankful to the memory
Of the great dimple when you smile

I thank the loss of my memory
Prior to the reduction of your anger
I am thankful to the memory
Of those great sharing moments of your success

I thank the loss of my memory
For the reasons of our arguments
I am thankful to the greatest
Moments of my life with you.

As a Hokie alum and a Hokie parent I want to first express my condolences to the people who lost their child, parent, brother or sister or friend. I think and pray for you constantly. To all the students I am so proud of the way you have come together and presented yourselves. Honestly I can not be prouder. Please take care of yourselves and seek whatever help you need. To the faculty, staff, law and rescue agencies thank you for your response to not only this incident but all the teaching, nuturing and protection you have provided in the past and will in the future. To all alumni and friends lets do our part by supporting these people and demonstrating the Ut Prosim principle that Tech was founded on. Yes my heart is aching but I will move forward because others need me.

God be with you.  All the victims are so beautiful and so full of life.  I would trade my 53 years for any one of them.  I am so sorry.  I cannot fathom the obsurdity of this man. why was is there no real background check on gun purchases in Virginia?  regardless, nuts like this could have purchased a weapon anywhere , or made one. I own a gun and I have no regrets having purchased one for self defense in the CA Sierra Nevada foothills.  What is wrong with our society that people need to do these kinds of things?  it is not the gun, it is the warped mind our world has created.  the have and the haves nots.  why so much emphasis on who we are vs/what we have?

Like many others around the world, my family and I were extraordinarily moved by Professor Librescu’s life story, culminating in his heroic action which saved the lives of many of his students.  We would like to suggest that a scholarship fund be created in his memory for the support of promising but economically disadvantaged Virginia Tech engineering students. I would personally be honored to contribute, and though I am sure that others are already thinking along the same lines, if there is anything I can do to assist in the creation of such a fund, please contact me.

What has happened at Virginia Tech is incomprehensible.  My heart breaks for all who have been affected by this horrible tragedy.  As a parent with a college student attending a large university, (or any parent for that matter), I can’t even imagine what horror those courageous faculty members and young men and women endured during those minutes of terror at the hands of Mr. Cho.  Words cannot express the sympathy felt by so many.

I work for the Penn State Engineering Science and Mechanics Department, which I understand is in VPI’s Norris Hall. Several of our faculty members taught or attended classes in that building.

Ten years ago at Penn State, a sniper hid in some bushes on the lawn of our student union building. She shot three people, killing one, Melanie Spalla. I walked right past her on my way to class, 30 seconds before the shooting. While I can still close my eyes and hear those gunshots, time has healed, and my life has moved forward in ways much better than I had imagined back then.

Please know that there are many who sympathize in your sorrow, and that your future will bring a strength you may not have felt before.

May your lives be blessed, and Godspede.

Praying with all the nation for comfort and solice to this tradegy. I have three daughters in college and one of them attends Radford a small wonderful community of graciousness and peace only minutes from Va Tech. My daughters have several friends at Tech and all we could do was pray for all the grief stricken students, families and staff at Virgina Tech. We were in Radford when we heard the news and all my husband and I could think about was holding our daughters close to us. Our whole family has been touched by this tradegy. Our children went to high school with several students attending Tech and we were all so stricken with fear trying to contact those fellow Madisonians desperatly calling to find out information about their friends. By the holy Grace of God all their friends are ok. Thank the Lord and his mercy. All the words cannot express the sympathy we feel for the Tech community and their families. For we all know that God has a plan for all our lives and he will be the comforter to all who have perished in this horrible act of violence. May God bless you all as you endure the pain of your loss.

My paper, my pencils, my keychains, my glue,
They’re nowhere to be found, nowhere, it’s true,
But it does not matter much
That, now, I don’t have any work to do.

The sigh for the loss of rainy days overcast
Along the lake after the shingly overpass
Does not matter much
That, now, the time does not go so fast.

The whispering gasp for the loss of sight
For lush daybreak after the night,
Does not matter much
That, now, to see, I need no light.

The weeping for the loss of wedding rings,
Fitted and dusty, those were angel wings,
Does not matter much
That, now, I need not the shape of things.

And the loss of my home, beneath the sky,
That sits near a river where the salmon swim by,
Does not matter much
That, now, home is here, where I now lie.

And the wailing for the loss of my city,
Where the lions sleep as they may,
Does not matter much,
We all end up the remains of the day.

But the tragedy of the loss of you, my child,
For the only one I’ve wept for,
The only one I adore,
Has mattered, but not much anymore,
Because you know I’ll wait for you
On God’s golden shore.

I knew how tragic this event was. But I didn’t know it how it would effect me. Every picture, video footage I saw, or anything I heard about it brought me to tears. I recently lost my mother and the idea of young students losing their lives and not being able to live their lives and not being able to tell their family’s that they love them. It saddens me to no end. My thoughts go out to all of the families who are affected by what happened. I still can’t stop thinking about what has happened and how many innocent people have lost their lives. It scares me because it could have been you or I. It scares me that it is possible for everyone to go about their days the same way every day but one day you don’t come home. It scares me....

As our family hear the news, we watch the reports, and we read the accounts of what happened at VT, our hearts ache for the irreversible trauma, and senseless loss that took place on April 16th, 2007. This day will be etched painfully and forever in the hearts of billions, as well as ours. We are lifting prayer for each of those affected by this tragedy. We will never forget, and we shouldn’t, but God can help heal your hearts. Know that a nation and other countries are grieving along with you. We also send our special thoughts and prayers to our fellow Canadian, Jerzy Nowak and his family on the loss of Jocelyne. We also give thanks to God for the 32 amazing people and their individual contributions they made to this world. There are so many big and little things that they did, that made everyones lives richer. When the pain subsides a little, maybe someone could put together a memorial book, with contributions from family and friends, of all the wonderful things they did. I think it could be something to be treasured and help toward the healing process.

May God bless each of you and surround you with love and comfort.

I find all of this (once again) so difficult to understand. How one sick mind can create such horrific pain and sorrow spread so widely. Young men and women, doing what they were supposed to do,taken away so violently, so quickly. May all of you embrace your family, friends, and(above all)your God for comfort. As an employee at a high school and as a human being (no matter where we live)I can only imagine the pain you must be feeling. All of my prayers and compassion go out to you now and in the future. We all stand beside you. MAY GOD BE WITH YOU AND COMFORT YOU ALL! We DO share your pain. Mary
