Condolences, April 18, 2007

Words cannot nearly express the pain and sorrow I feel over the loss of these innocent and precious lives as well as the fear that this has caused everyone at VT and beyond.  My thoughts and prayers are with all the family, friends and loved ones of those who tragically lost their lives.  May God continue to pour our His peace, mercy, grace and love upon you.  God bless you Always and in All Ways.

I wanted to share my deepest sympathy, prayers, and support with the VT community.  As an alumnus of neighboring Radford University I can say that I have many wonderful memories of VT and its proud students and faculty.  An event like this will never diminish the character of VT and its community.  And as every college and university across this nation mourns with you, they all carry HOKIE pride.  God Bless.

Dear Staff, Faculty & Students:

I cried as did all Americans I think.  The act is so reprehensible and tragic.  The only solace I can find is in prayer for all of you.  Please try to find peace in Jesus Christ.

Time will ease some of the pain - but it will never be forgotten.  May God bless you all.

We cannot understand why these terrible tragedies happen. Whenever anything of this magnitude does happen, it sparks talk about so many things that might have prevented it. There is time for that. But, for now, I pray for all the victims, those healing physically, as well as those who were taken from us. I pray for the families of all. I pray for us, as a whole..humanity..who must somehow make it through this life, unscathed, and hope that we will all be touched by love, compassion and understanding. I applaud the resilience of the students who offered up their cheer of the “Hokies” for their brethren. I applaud the administration that showed that the “other” victims are in good hands. These victims, though not physically touched, are surely scarred, mentally and emotionally and need time and understanding and love to heal. I found it very touching and telling that one student said that many of the students opted to stay at the school, rather than go home, this “is our home”. God bless you all, you are surely in many hearts and prayers as you continue your journey through life. May this journey carry much more light in it for you, than has been there in the past few days. Be strong and allow others to help you through this.

Dear Virginia Tech Community and Alumni,

I am deeply saddened by the tragic events that occurred on your campus Monday morning. This disaster hit home to me. All the other recent school shootings and terror threats have been in younger age groups. Being the same age and a recent graduate myself, it opened my eyes and probably shocked me as much as it did you. I feel like this act of terror wasn’t just to your campus, it was an act of terror against every campus community in our nation. I believe that all the other students across the country feel as if they share in your loss as well. I quote one of the groups in Facebook, “Forget any and all college affiliations today. For today, we are all Hokies.” We are all here for you and are praying for you and your families and loved ones. We share in your Hokie Hope.

Best Wishes and God Bless,

My prayers go out to the families and the friends of those precious lives lost in the April 16th shootings!!  I lived in Blacksburg several years ago and remember the beautiful campus of Virginia Tech..  I mostly remember the friendly and “full of life” students I dealt with those years I lived there..  A disaster of this magnitude is just so unimaginable in such a wonderful college town!!  Good Luck in your futures, life will go on!!

Both my Brother and Sister-in-law are VT Grads from the late 60s and although I have no affiliation with your school other than that, my total heart goes out to each and every person who is in any small way connected by this awful tradegy.  My mind continues to return to the voice of the young man speaking of the lost life of his Professor who held the door with his body while he asked his students to run away.  “Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends.” - John 15:13 My thoughts and prayers are with the VT Community and the Nation.

Just wanted to say to the Virginia Tech community: you should be extremely proud of your students, faculty and staff for conducting themselves so honorably during such a horrible time. As a Michigan State University alumni, I may be a “Spartan” but am 100% with you “Hokies” in spirit. To the families of the victims, I have been moved by each and every one of their faces and lives, and hope you know they will not be forgotten. Many blessings and prayers to all of you.

My heart goes out to you.  I can relate to the pain you’re feeling.  Shortly before my graduation from VMI, we lost five cadets to tragic circumstances, four of whom were killed in a wreck just 5 days before the end of the year.  Among them was one of the best friends I’ve ever had.  While the pain of such loss never fully goes away, I hope that the good memories of those whom you’ve lost eventually will push aside the grief you feel right now.

Although VMI and Virginia Tech have had tremendous rivalries over the years, I’m sure that all VMI alumni set those aside at this time, and we will keep the entire Virginia Tech community in our thoughts and prayers.

When I was in college, we had a shooting right outside of our music building where one of our beloved professors ended up dying.  The shooter shot himself, but lived.  This tragedy brings up so many memories of that time.
My heart goes out to all the students at Virginia Tech and just know there are others out there who have gone through a tragedy like what you are going through.  One person or many, they are still missed by those they touched.

To All the Virginia Tech Family:

Although it has been 33 years since I graduated from our University, the news of the tragedy hit me as if I had just graduated.  My heart felt condolences are with all members of the Hokie Nation.  Words simply cannot express my sadness.  However, Virginia ech is a great community, where ever we are, and we shall be strengthened by this.

There is no answering the question, “Why?”, but use this experience to drive you to live up to our motto.
