Mere words cannot express my feelings or thoughts at this time of sadness.  I knew no one who attended VT or any acquaintances thereof but, my heart truly goes out to the students, their families and faculty.  This is a tumultuous time in our lives, war surrounding us, sanctions vs factions; blood shed unnecessarily should not be tolerated.  We cannot microscopically dissect everyone however, steps can be, ought to be, hopefully already in the process of, should be taken to prevent future violence, such as this.

You are in my thoughts and prayers.

VT Community -

I feel how weak and fruitless must be any word of mine which should attempt to beguile you from the grief of a loss so overwhelming. I pray our heavenly father may assuage the anguish of your bereavement and leave you only the cherished memory of the loved and lost, and the solemn pride that must be yours to have stood so tall together during such a terrible ordeal.

Inspired by Abraham Lincoln but true for you - Your community and country are proud of you.

I thought I got up today to go to class… I thought I got up today to turn in my essay… Oh! But I got today just to see your smiling face and again I forgot to call my parents on yesterday to tell them I am ok… But I got up today just to say THE END!

I am an alum who lived on the 4th floor of West AJ and worked as an RA on the 5th floor.  I love Virginia Tech and I love Blacksburg.  While living and studying there, I never imagined anything like this, and as a mother now, I can’t imagine losing a child.  My heart goes out to everyone as you move forward.  May the Hokie spirit stay strong.  Take good care of each other.

God bless.  Let us all use this time to focus as much as possible on learning, improving ourselves, and pursuing our passions.  Holding onto anger will only deter us.

Remember that life is precious.

Finally, thank you to the heroes of that day including the students who thankfully made it out alive and the brave security and medical personnel.  Mark

It is a sad week for Hokies all over the world.  Know that our hearts are still in Blacksburg with the entire community.
My heart breaks to think and see the community at such a sad place, but I know all Hokies will come to place of peace in the future to come.  Time will heal, but until then know we all stand together. Virginia Tech is a special place… has always been, and will always be!

I am also very PROUD of the the student body.  You are handling yourselves with respect and dignity, and are an outstanding representation of all Hokies.  Stand together and remember you are not alone, that Hokies all over the world stand with you.

The events of 4/16/07 will reverberate through the years. One disturbed and angry person lashed out at his fellow students as individuals as well as the University as a whole. It was, as Gov. Tim Kaine called it, “the darkest day in the history of Virginia Tech.”And yet even on that first day, despite the best attempts to snuff it out, the flame within the heroic students in the rooms where this horrid massacre occurred still flickered as they rose to defend their fallen classmates.  As the day went on and into the second day, the students came together, banking the fires to keep them alive until in the still of the evening candlelight vigil on the drillfield Tuesday night, the Hokie Nation let the world know that the spirit inside each of us fortunate enough to have been associated with this great university can never be quenched.  Though the next weeks and months will be difficult,I am confident that the strength we find in each others arms will enable us to move forward toward new heights and dreams. While each of us is an important star in the sky, together we are the great galaxy evident on the drill-field last night. We stand proudly as the crowd did with the simple words that say it best-We Are Hokies!
