The Massaponax High School faculty and staff were shocked and saddened by the tragedy that took place yesterday in Blacksburg.  While the enormity of the event has sent shock waves across the country, the most profound impact is being felt by those of us here in Virginia.  So many of our graduates and our faculty have attended or are attending Virginia Tech that our connection to that university is very close.

We mourn the loss of young lives to this senseless act and feel the devastating pain not only as educators of young people, but for many of us as parents.  Our thoughts and prayers go out to the families who lost loved ones and are now left to mourn and cope with their devastating loss

April 18, 2007, 1:30pm • Fredericksburg, Virginia Spotsylvania County • #15352

...just an awful, senseless tragedy.

while we pray for those killed and their families, we must keep in mind that no amount of security measures can prevent a crazed person from harming us if they so choose--no matter where we are--no matter how careful we are. that said, we cannot allow these random cowardly acts prevent us from being what is integral to what and who we are...a free, vibrant, multi-cultural, and tolerant society.

We are Americans.

With the support, love, and determination of the surviving student body, parents, and administration...Virginia Tech will go on--never to forget the tragedy of April 16, 2007, but to live, love, and thrive in rememberance… and in honor… of those lost.

In rememberance, in sorrow, and in spirit--

What happened Monday has hurt me to the core.  I was an army brat growing up and lived in a lot of different places, and even though I’ve continued to move around after graduating from VT, I still consider Virginia Tech and Blacksburg my HOME.

My love and concern goes out to all those thousands of people affected by the shooting and all its fall out.  I find comfort in knowing the strength and character of true Hokies will get us all through this difficult time.  I can’t say how proud I am to be a Hokie and to have spent time in the great community of Blacksburg.

-God bless

As the parent of a college student who is miles away from home, I ache for all the moms, dads, brothers and sisters who lost loved ones in this horrific incident. I also hope that maybe we can look again at our gun control laws and do something to decrease the probability of this happening again.

I know that time will never make you forget this day, but the pain is more sufferable when shared. We are all shocked and grieved, and angry. Please re-consider gun control petitions. This was not an ordinary criminal, of the kind who would anyway have access to weapons. None of us, I’m sure, wishes to see more acts of random violence such as this again. My thoughts are with the families of the victims, and the people who witnessed this tragedy. God bless you all. We will never forget.

To the VT community,
I am deeply saddened by the events of Monday.  I know how it is to lose a loved one, as my nephew has recently passed from brain cancer.  But to have a love one taken in such a tragic way is unconceivable.  I am an employee at a Jacksonville University and Alumni also.  My families thoughts and prayers go out to you all, to those that have lost a loved one and to those who must find the strength to continue forward.
One will always say “why?” and for most, we will never know the answer.  We survived 9/11, and those will always be remembered.  4/16 will be remembered and we as a nation, as a whole will survived.
God Bless you all

My thoughts and prayers are with the entire VT community.  I’ve spent a great deal of time at VT, spending time with friends and attending the football games.  In that time, I’ve seen such a great community at VT.  I would never have dreamt that something like this would happen in such a remarkable community.  It is truly heartwarming to see the outreach of support worldwide for the VT community.
Be strong, and God Bless.

This is a poem I felt compelled to write about your fellow classmates and teachers.

Our Hokie Angels

32 students & staff were true Hokies following life’s path

Monday in minutes it all ended in a blast from a fellow student who took you from your path

Now you are the Angels who will light the way for all your fellow hokies to continue on life’s way

Though a dark cloud hangs over the little Blacksburg town

You will all rebound cause 32 Angels are heaven bound

They will always shine down from the mountains that surround Virginia’s Hokie town.

My thoughts and prayers are with everyone who has been touched by this ordeal. I hope you will find some comfort in the words above and just know that whenever the light shines bright as you look out at night you will know your Hokie Angels are sending the light. Sherry Hannum

We are a Hokie family from northern Virginia. Two daughters graduates of VT (one last year). We spent 8 yrs. attending football games, parents week-ends, sorority functions. The spirit of VT will continue to live in our hearts and the memory of those wonderful students who lost their lives while striving to make this world a better place to live. May they rest in eternal peace.

At a time like this, it is hard to express all of your feelings toward the VA Tech family.  My sincere condolences go out to the families and friends of the innocent victims.  I have watched coverage on television and can’t seem to tear myself away from it.  When the pictures of the victims and interviews with their families come on I can’t help but just sit and cry, my heart feels so heavy.
My prayers are with your University.  Healing is possible if you turn to God for strengh.  My prayers will stay with all of you for a very long time.

Nothing can be said that will make hearts heal, dry tears of sorrow, or take away the grief you are going through. But, when your hearts feel heavy, your tears wont stop, and you have lost your hope, remember your friends, family, nation and world are praying. Praying for you, the loved ones you have lost, the fear you may be going through, and that you would have people to turn to. Our prayers are with you all during this time.
