Condolences, April 18, 2007

My heart goes out to everyone who is suffering at Virginia Tech right now.  My thoughts are with those in the hospital and the families and friends of everyone who has lost someone.  The years I spent at Tech will im sure remain in my mind as some of the best in my lifetime.  Words can not express the grief I feel or even the hope as I see what a wonderful outpouring of support has come from around the world. We will mourn and learn from what has happened and we will not forget, but we will not let this tragedy define us.  VT is such a wonderful school full of opportunity and great experiences and I will always be a proud hokie.

To my fellow Hokies around the world,

My thoughts and prayers go out to you in this time of tragedy.  It is a shame that such senseless violence has made its way to our quiet corner of the world.  May you all find peace and comfort soon.

VA Tech has been very important to our family for many years. Several of our family members are alumni and we have season tickets to the football games. We live in PA now and drive 6 hours to most of the home games. We won’t pretend to know what you are going through, because we have never been there ourselves. We do want you all to know that our hearts go out to you. Our prayers are with you. We pray that God will help you to get through this and give you comfort.  The Baileys

For the family of VT,
I am down in Mississippi and have been glued to the television, overwhelmed by shock and despair for you all. I was teaching in Jackson when the Pearl shootings occurred and remember well the struggle to comprehend the senseless loss that occurred. Please know the prayerful support we feel for you here, and how moved we have been by your dignity, strength and heroic courage in the face of such a staggering tragedy.
I pray for your peace and healing.

We cry with you, you are not alone. There is so much love around you at this time of loss that is reaching to touch your soul and spirit. I have lost friends and loved ones during my 60 years of life here and it herts to the core at times at the loss. But what helps is remembering what they gave you to keep in your hart ,is the love they gave, the wisdom they gave, the fun they shared with you and all the good things. This is what to hold onto as they would want you to, to smile again.  D.P

I was on the campus of The University of Akron when there were problems at Kent State University in May 1970.  Though I knew no one personnaly, I knew the feeling of concern about going to class in the days following.  Just recently I lost my husband so I know how your loss leaves an empty spot in you life. God will see you through this. Lean on Him.

To the victims and their families, my prayers are with you.  As a member of the Blacksburg community and an employee of Virgina Tech great sorrow fills my heart.  It is hard to understand how this could happen on our campus.  When I came to work today I sat in my car, and though my heart is full of sadness, fear replaced that for a moment.  This is our town and we must come together and lean on one another for support until that fear subsides.  Love for our campus and for one another will helps us move forward from the tragedy that unfolded on April 16, 2007 - a day we will always remember.

It deeply troubles me to know that so many people are hurting and searching for answers after what has happened.  I am a 2004 graduate of the University of Washington and can’t fathom what every single one of you is going through; I have struggled with tears of pain myself since Monday.
I know at this time and for a long time to come it will be hard to find comfort and forgiveness.  Please remember that even at a time of darkness, there is light in others around the world that are thinking about you.  You are all very brave and I thank you for sharing what information and feelings you can so the rest of us can try to understand.
