The Virginia Tech I graduated from is gone, forever altered.  A new Virginia Tech will rise, stronger and more unified, but never forgetting the excruciating losses of April 16, 2007.  I already can see that the Hokie Spirit has persevered.  My heart is with you all.

Words cannot express the sense of loss and tragic violation that has befallen our beloved Hokie family. To see our beautiful Hokie-stone campus splashed across the television and making the front page of nearly every newspaper in the world for this horrific reason is disturbing and disheartening.

My years at Tech will always occupy a special place in my heart and I treasure the time and experiences I had there… as I treasure each visit back to the campus. My best to the whole family - students, faculty, staff and alumni alike. I thank Pres. Steger for his compassion and calm leadership throughout this crisis.

I must say that I am shocked at what happened and am very saddened by the event even though I don’t attend the university and I graduated from other Virginia universities.  Having lived in VA my whole life, I am deeply saddened that this had to happen to us.  Let’s be strong and keep going.  I give you all my sympathy and know God will take care of this.

To all that lost a loved one, please know that god will be with you throughout this sad, horrific, difficult time. God has a plan for all who enter his gates. These loved ones become our angels, our sunshine, our stars, our whispering wind. They will always remain close at heart. Please do cherish the memories, their smiles, their laughter, their love - no one can ever take any of that away. May peace be with you and also with them. Thoughts and prayers are with you from all around our world.
No words can make you feel better at this time but please do remember this- Think of them as a blooming flower, a bird flying high in the sky or maybe a butterfly. Look up at the stars and know that they are shining down on you giving you strength to help you get through this most difficult unexplainable time.
Keep your chin high as that is what god would want you to do.
You will forever remain in our thoughts & prayers. You will get through this with love, support and alot of prayers! Gods home is a safe haven and a great afterlife.
God Bless to all that have been stricken by this!!!

I started out trying to write a poem to you. I can’t find the words. I am praying from afar for your hearts to somehow be comforted. I watch the bravery of your spirits as you share your grief, and I find myself with tears streaming down my face. Your strength, faith, community, and family are awe inspiring. I know that my words must seem hollow to you now, but this country can and should learn from your living example. I will never understand why this happens. I just want to express my love to every one of you, and I want to let you know that others across this country are thinking of you.

All my love,

I’m currently waiting to hear from VT about whether I have been accepted as a transfer student.  People have been asking me if I still want to attend Tech, and I answer with an emphatic yes!  There is no doubt in my mind.  I am a Hokie at heart, and this event has only strengthened my ties to the Virginia Tech community.  I only wish that I was there right now, to be with and support my friends as they come to terms with everything.

I’m so thankful that none of my friends or family were lost in this tragedy.  My heart goes out to all those who grieve.

Please know that all of us at JMU are keeping you in our thoughts and prayers.

My heart breaks at the grief stricken students and others there.  Having a son age 20 and having just lost a nephew, age 19 to a senseless act of a drunk driver, I am recently acquainted with the many questions and emotions which overwhelm such young and innocent lives.  The candles, the tears, the hugs all so gravely familiar from our recent family loss.  A hug goes a long way, a listening ear goes even further.  Parents, adults, please be there for these young ones, listen with your hearts and reach out to share your love and be honest in acknowledging that there simply are some things which we can never understand or explain! Embrace life and honor those who have gone on with a full and good life.  If we harbor unforgiveness or anger it will only destroy ourselves and we have sadly witnessed the fruit of anger withheld.  It is such a time as this that we reach down inside and discover what we are really made of and yes, in the words of those at UNC Chapel Hill, ‘Today, we are all Hokies’.  Love to you all, one moment at a time the healing begins!

Dear Virginia Tech Family,

I am an alumni of VCU, however many of my friends went to VT and how many hours did I spend in the engineering building working on math projects with together when I was up there. I was stunned and saddened to hear about a place with so many great memories for me turned into a hell for so many others. My heart goes out to everyone there. I truly hope great memories come back soon to the VT family!

May God Bless the families, friends, and relatives of those who passed away. Let them find light at the end of this long dark tunnel. And most importantly May God help restore the spirits of these individuals completely and make way for new, and happy beginins. amen.

Hokie has been a word associated with poking fun or lacking refinement.  More than the tragedy, the students and staff of Virginia Tech have redefined the word to be a mark of honor and integrity, of compassion and community.  As a Virginia, I am proud of how you all have bound together and showed the world the best of Virginia.

My prayers are with you all as you continue to bear the burden of this tragedy, but please know that millions stand with you.  God bless you all.

April 18, 2007, 12:26am • Trenton, NJ • #3263

I was so sad and hurt to hear that this happened yesterday. My condolences are with all who have been affected by this horrible tragedy. Being a college student right now and returning to my campus to go to classes on wednesday I am filled with a little aprehension. I know that we are not truely safe anywhere but I had always felt safe and secure at all of the colleges that I have attended, but this will not be true anymore. This could indeed happen anywhere, and so I just ask that we all become more aware of our environments, keep your eyes open. And please if some one you know is acting suspiciously try to find help or contact someone who can help that person. We always find out after these horrible times that the suspects had given the people around them many signals and signs that they were not well, that they needed help. Some people who knew the gunman said that they were not suprised. Hopefully we can prevent more of these attacks in the future.
