Condolences, April 17, 2007

My thoughts and prayers are with everyone at Virginia Tech as you all go through this difficult time. I don’t understand why God allows things like this to happen, but I guess there are some things that we aren’t meant to figure out. I am a college student and will be graduating in 3 weeks. The thoughts of everyone of these students who will not get that chance, will be with me throughout the entire day. Even though I did not know them, I will never forget them.

God Bless,

May God’s healing graces find your hearts and heal your wounds.  My deepest condolences and prayers go out to the victims, to the families, and to the friends of this senseless act.  Open your hearts to God and be not fearful or vengeful but rejoice in his glory.  The world mourns with you and will heal with you.

And the LORD said “My Child, when you only saw one set of footprints, that is when I carried you”.

To the families and friends that lost loved ones, I pray that the LORD will give you the comfort of cherished memories, strength and courage to get through this difficult tragedy.

To Virginia Tech and student body, I pray that the LORD will give you strength, courage and determination to not let this senseless act of violence break your hearts, souls or spirts. But to move on strong in remembrance of those who are no longer able to....

Virginia Tech is a wonderful place please remember this, remember your Hokie pride as we go thru this time of hardship.  Words can’t express our deep sorrow for those that have lost loved ones and friends.  Know that you are in our thoughts and prayers and that VT prevail stronger from all of this. Even though we were not there and do not know any of the victims personally, we have cried with you and grieved with you all.

Now is not a time to judge ‘what if’ or ‘could have’ or ‘should have’.  Now is a time to mourn the loss of young lives.  Now is a time to mourn the loss of valued colleagues and great educators.

There will be a time to ask all of the questions that need to be asked, should be asked.  Those questions must be asked knowing that some answers will never come.  The world will never know ‘why’.

There is a media and political drive to place fault and blame for these events.  The blame lies with the killer.  The blame is not with the President of this University.  He has lost colleagues and students with whose care he was charged.  The weight of that is evident on his face and he is especially in our thoughts and prayers We should all remember that hindsight is the only ‘perfect vision’.

God bless you all.  May the God who loves you all overshadow Virginia Tech with His love and comfort in the days, weeks, and years to come.

I heard about the courage and the selflessness. I still don’t know what to say. There are no words and I wish there was no call for them. I will pray for you and I pledge to love stronger, wider and deeper to honor your memories of those we’ve lost.

I would like to offer you my heartfelt sympathy on this day of great sorrow.  I share a common bond with you - we are members of the same collegiate athletic conference (I am an alumna of Wake Forest University). Sadly, I lost a sister to an act of gun violence in a public place in 1995.

I know the shock and anger and horror at finding out that tragedy has befallen someone you care about.  The pain is immense, and in the first few days and weeks and months it seems like it will consume you.  I urge you to take care of yourselves, your friends, and your family.  Draw close to those you love.  Look out for those who seem to be floundering.  Get help if you need it.

I also want to tell you that although I would have doubted it in 1995, you *will* find a way to go on and be happy and find joy in your lives again.  Your lives will be forever different, but time and faith and comfort help you manage the pain and grief.  My prayers for the Virginia Tech family and its friends and alumni is that you will find peace and healing too.

Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted.  God bless you all.

Every valley
Every bitter chill
Made me ready to climb back up the hill
And find that . . .

You are sunrise
You are blue skies
How would I know the morning
If I knew not midnight?

God’s speed to all.

We little knew that morning, that God
was going to call your name,
in life we loved you dearly
in death we do the same.
It broke our hearts to lose you,
you did not go alone;
for part of us went with you,
the day God called you home.
You left us peaceful memories,
your love is still our guide,
and though we cannot see you,
you are always at our side.
Our family chain is broken,
and nothing seems the same,
but as God calls us one by one,
the chain will link again.

To Everyone Who Has Been Affected By This Tragedy:

I wish there were words that existed in any language that would make you feel better- but I know there aren’t. But know this: souls are weeping and hearts are breaking all over the world for you and everyone else who lost a loved one. And though it does not feel like it right now, you will emerge from this stronger; stronger as people, stronger as students and stronger as a community.  I wish I could offer you more support than just words, but that’s all I have. Stay strong.

God is our refuge and strength,

Though its waters roar and be troubled,
Though the mountains shake with its swelling.
