My college memories at Tennessee Tech are the most cherished of my lifetime. No - not the parties, and not the beer and the pizza - My friends, and my teachers - the staff at the university… we all were family. Graduation in 1995..I felt like I hardly knew a stranger. I *miss* those feelings, and am thankful every single day for that experience.

Today, all of you have shown the entire world your strength, your character and the quality of education that’s going on at Virginia Tech. I can’t imagine what all of you are going through. This moment will define who you are. I pray that in some small way all of you are able to find the strength to move forward, and discover a way that this miserable event will help you become better parents, better friends and better citizens.

I don’t feel worthy to wear your logos or your colors. I will never forget this event. We all will never forget this event.

On behalf of the alumni of Tennessee Tech - I wish all of you the very best, and want you to know that you are in the thoughts and prayers of millions.

God Bless.

Words cannot express the intense shock and sadness I feel today. I am a Virginia native, have dozens of friends who are Virginia Tech alumni, and have spent a lot of time on the Hokie campus myself. I am currently living in New Zealand and even from this distance, I share in your pain and heartbreak and extend my deepest wishes that each of you will find peace in your heart soon. My prayers are with you all. - EAB

My heart and soul goes out to all of the students at Virgina Tech.  Watching the reports while on campus here at Sacramento State, I sat in awe.  A feeling of hopelessness settled over me. You wish you could do something, but all you can do is pray that all of this turns out okay.  Not enough words can be said to the students, faculty, victims, their families, etc. that have been affected by this horrific tragedy.  My thoughts and condolences....

I was a student at Kent State University on May 4, 1970, when four students were killed by Ohio National Guardsmen...two were war protestors, and two were just students on their way to class.  I know the times, the politics, and the circumstances were different then, but no single event had a more profound influence on my life.  Kent State closed that day, and did not re-open for six weeks.  Professors created ways to complete course work via mail, phone, or off campus meetings.  I suggest VTech officials consider doing the same.  In my most humble opinion, next Monday is far too early to ask your students to get back to a “normal” routine.  There will be nothing normal about their lives for weeks, months, or years.  Give your students, give your university, time to grieve.  My heart goes out to the VTech community.  I have cried with you this week...cried for the present, and cried for the past.  But trust me, the sun will shine again on your beautiful campus.

I was in shock when I heard the news and just to think that this could have happended at my university gives me the chills. I can’t say I know how you feel because I don’t; I wasn’t there, I didn’t see the tragic event. I can say, though, that my prayers are with each and every victim and I ask God to give these families hope and instead of looking for someone to blame to look for support. We will always remember April 16, 2007 and the victims.

I am shocked and saddened at the tragic events at Virginia Tech.  However, as a graduate of Tech in 1983, I have been uplifted by the wonderful unity and strength shown by everyone in the Blacksburg community.  I have never been more proud to be a Hokie.  God Bless the families, students, and friends involved and to all who have provided such inspirational messages from around the world.

"I’m Free”
Don’t grieve for me, for now I’m free,
I’m following that path God laid for me.
I took his hand when I heard him call
I turned my back and left it all.
I could not stay another day
To Laugh, to love, to work or play.
Tasks left undone must stay that way
I found that peace at close of day.
If my parting has left a void,
Then fill it with remembered joy.
A friendship shared, a laugh, a kiss,
ah, yes, these things I too will miss.
Be not burdened with times of sorrow
I wish you the sunshine of tomorrow.
My life’s been full, I’ve savored much.
Good friends, good times, a loved ones touch.
Perhaps my time seemed all too brief,
Don’t lengthen it now with undue grief.
Lift up your hearts and share with me
God wanted me now;
He set me free....

This poem has always touched my heart and it has gotten me through some tough times. For all of you who lost a child, a friend, boyfriend/girlfriend, co-worker, deepest thoughts and prayers go out to you all.  Every student and faculty member is a hero in my eyes...may god bless you all

I know too well the shock and dismay of a university-wide tragedy.  The Aggie family hasn’t forgotten those we lost in the 1999 Bonfire collapse, nor shall the Hokie family forget those you lost on April 16th.  As you mourn, pray, remember, and memorialize, know that the the Aggie family is here for you. - Travis Rollins ‘01

In a time such as this, it may be difficult to see beyond the sadness and grief that surround you.

Please know that the world is looking at you with great pride and with deep sympathy. You will rise in the face of this tragedy and we all will be behind you.

Today we are not Blue Devils, Seminoles, Yellow Jackets, Demon Deacons, Terps, Tar Heels, Wolfpacks, Tigers, Hurricanes, Eagles, or Cavaliers. Today, we are all wearing your colors from the inside and cheering with you as you rise and stand strong with tears in your eyes. Today we are all a family. We are all Hokies!

Best wishes to you all!

To all of the students, staff, families and friends who have been affected by this horrific
event, I am truly sorry for your loss. I can’t even begin to imagine how any of you must feel.I sat at the TV stunned as my eyes filled in tears
for the pain everyone must be feeling. I have no relationship with anyone at Virginia Tech...but
I am a mother, a friend, a sister, an Aunt and it is in each of these roles that I know your hurt must be unbearable. I just thought you
should know that my thoughts are with all of you.

I know a few that have gone or are currently attending Virginia Tech, and I do not want to imagine what the family and friends of the victims are going through. This is an unforgiving act of a person. This is the kind of act you see in a movie, but not in Blacksburg or any city in this beautiful country. Nobody should have to go through what the family, friends, students, and faculty have gone through. My prayers and condolences go out to everyone affected by this enormous tragedy.
