Condolences, April 20, 2007

I just recently received my masters in English and a degree in Deaf education and am working as a teacher at a deaf high school.  I can’t imagine coming so far, working to hard and tne having my life cut short two weeks before graduation.  It really touched me, and I cried all the way home, when I heard about a graduate student two weeks from finishing his degree. My heart goes out to the families of these amazing people we lost, people making something of their lives to contribute to our world.  We have all lost a great treasure.

To the faculty, staff, and students of Virginia Tech:

My mind still reels at the unspeakable tragedy of April 16, my heart still aches beyond words. As someone who teaches in higher education, as a tachers who has had students go to Tech for various graduate studies, as a person married to a woman whose family has a long history with Tech (my wife’s uncle is an alumnus) as someone who lived in Virginia for four years...I grieve with you.

At the same time, my heart is overwhelmed at the way that the entire Tech community has responded. You have made it clear that unspeakable evil will not have the last word.

Know that all of you will be in my thoughts and prayers, and those of my wife, for a very long time.

It is our fervent prayer that your students who survived this tragedy and the families of the massacred students recover fully from the tragedy. Our thoughts and prayers will be with you at this terrible time and throughout the healing process. We also pray that more attention to students with mental problems can be paid in the future to avoid other tragedies such as this one. It takes caring, empathy and love to keep students whole. We care!

"Don’t be dismayed at goodbyes.  A farewell is necessary before you can meet again.  And meeting again, after moments or lifetime, is certain for those who are friends.” ~Richard Bach

If Tears Could Build A Stairway
If tears could build a stairway and memories were a lane
We would walk right up to heaven
And bring you back again.

No farewell words were spoken
No time to say goodbye
You were gone before we knew it
And only God knows why
Our hearts still ache in sadness and secret tears still flow
What it meant to lose you
No one will ever know
But now we know you want us
To mourn for you no more
To remember all the happy times
Life still has much in store
Since you’ll never be forgotten
We pledge to you today
A cherished place within our heart
Is where you’ll always stay

With love and sympathy,
Carrie Boswell

I am a proud Houston alumnus of Virginia Tech having spent the better part of the 80’s attending the fine institution.  I’ve also been visiting the campus all my life as I have very close relatives that live in Blacksburg.  I am saddened and sickened by the tragic events that occurred earlier this week.  My family & I are continually praying for those so deeply effected.  May the peace of our Lord Jesus Christ reign in your hears!

To the many who now mourn, this prayer, among many is here offered:

“May the souls of the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, Rest in Peace; and may light perpetual shine upon them.”
IN PARADISUM
In paradisum deducant te angeli,
in tuo adventu
suscipiant te martyres,
et perducant te
in civitatem sanctam Jerusalem.
Chorus angelorum te suscipiat,
et cum Lazaro quondam paupere
aeternam habeas requiem.
Amen.

I feel so sadden by what happened at VAtech and feel even sadder for all the families that have been left behind.  My prayers and my thoughts are with you all.  I feel sadden that so many out there feel their lives have gotten so bad/out of hand that their only way out is death/killing.  I pray that all the others out there that are now contemplating copycat acts to seek out help both for mental and spritual healing.  GOD Bless VA Tech…

As we sit in silience on Friday Noon, I cannot hold back the tears.  I am so sad for all those who mourn their deceased friends and for those families who have lost their child.  I was in a similar incident at work in the 80’s, so I empathize with those who heard the shots, felt the shots, were involved one way or another during that horrific event.  They will never be able to erase the sounds, the sights, the smell, the emotions of that day, but they will be able to cope and overcome to move on with their lives by focusing on their beliefs and love for life.  My prayers are for all those who suffer.  Yvonne Mason, Raleigh, NC

May you see God’s light on the path ahead
When the road you walk is dark.
May you always hear,
Even in your hour of sorrow,
The gentle singing of the lark.
When times are hard may hardness
Never turn your heart to stone,
May you always remember
when the shadows fall—
You do not walk alone.

I am new to VA and didn’t know what a “Hokie” was. I have cried with the world over your tragedy.  I was looking for answers to such a horrendous act but instead I learned what a Hokie is.  A Hokie is community and individuality.  A Hokie is caring, compassionate, brave, loyal, loves honestly, celebrates life and is humbly proud.  A Hokie cries in pain yet comforts others.  A Hokie will put his own life on the line for the sake of others. A Hokie is spirit-filled and educated, the promise for all our tomorrows.  Hate will not consume you because love will triumph.

The Hokie Nation has my complete, heartfelt sympathy for the loss of each person who would have made this imperfect world a better place to live. I now understand what a Hokie is and that has given me the gift of peace and hope.  As Nikki Giovanni stated in her address so vibrantly, you are a Hokie, you are Virginia Tech, and you will prevail.  And, in time, you will heal.  God Bless the Hokies. – Lori, Sandy Hook, VA

Dear Children;

Our world has been at war, it started before your birth, the forces of good and evil battle upon the earth.  Each day you are given, armor yourself in prayer, the weapons that are needed is the love of kindness that you share.  I am very proud of you, each and everyone, for what you have accomplished it was a job well done.
To you my children, who must remain to help complete our goal, continue with love and kindness to those who have no soul.  Retain your faith; reach out your heart to the lost ones in despair, forgive and be forgiven for I am always there.  I know the pain all to well when a parent suffers a loss, for one of my children it took place upon a wooden cross.  So remember my sons and daughters how much you mean to me, my loving arms around you throughout eternity.

With all my love,
Your Heavenly Father

Dedicated to all of those who have lost their lives serving our country, Columbine and Virginia Tech.
