Please excuse our country’s media.  In an effort to report every detail, they have glorified a wrongdoer and minimized the good in this world.  Every person taken was someone’s loved one and an accomplished, valuable asset to the country.  Bless them all and their families.  Keep the faith, Virginia.  The rest of the nation reaches out to you.

My thoughts are with all of you during this terrible time. I visited your beautiful campus in the mid 90s for a conference. The images bring back those memories, and make this incident so much more real. It is horrific what has happened to the wonderful students with bright futures, and faculty whose lives were so abruptly ended. I think all Universities stand in solidarity and sympathy with you. My special condolences to the parents.

It is a terrible tragedy that has occured at Virginia Tech.  I have never been to the school myself but I have friends who have graduated from the school and it saddens to me so much what has happened.  I pray that all the survivors and all those who continue to attend the school will come out of this with strength and I pray that all the families of the victims know they are surrounded by love.  Thanks for letting me comment.  Megan W.

To The Virginia Tech Family

I just wanted to leave a note to say how very sorry I am for the tradjady that accurd last Monday. My deepest sorrows are with you… As soon as I heard of the news I picked up the phone and rang my own daughter who is 23 and just graduated from the UC Davis Campus in Calif in December. I was just happy to hear her voice. It never accured to me that something like this could happen on a college Campus. I felt so safe at her college when I visited. Again I wish to convay to deepest sorrow.

I am sincerely sorry for your losses. This is not an easy time period, not just for you all out there in VA, but all across the nation, and perhaps even the world. Terrorism can be found in any spectrum, and sadly you had to bear witness to it in a localized and domestic one. I know that the students and faculty of the University of Oklahoma are standing and praying for you, knowing the effects of such terrorism ourselves. Also everyone else in the nation is as well. Know you are not alone; you will never be alone. And even as you mourn the loss of loved ones in this time of grief, smile and celebrate them as well. For they were here with you, even for a short time, and that alone touched many lives. Again, I am sincerely sorry for your terrible loss and I know in the end you will make it through this terrible situation, slowly, just one step at a time. Good luck, God bless and God’s speed to you all.

I can’t imagine surviving the Holocaust and being cut down by another madman who was a student 50 + years later?  From all accounts Professor Librescu saved many students by having them jump out of the windows before he was gunned down blocking the door - a hero by any definition. Part of the El Maleh Rachamim prayer says, Oh God, full of compassion, Thou who dwells on High.  Grant perfect rest beneath the sheltering wings of Your Presence . . .  May God grant that for all who are as righteous as Professor Librescu.

Thoughts and condolences from someone who will probably never come into direct contact with the courageous people at Virginia Tech, but also someone with a sense of brotherhood with the American people after witnessing 9/11 at close quarters. Your courage and bravery will shine through , like then , its the way the American people are as I have seen and will see again. Deepest sympathy from England.

I give you this one thought to keep - I am with you still - I do not sleep. I am a thousand winds that blow, I am the diamond glints on snow, I am the sunlight on ripened grain, I am the gentle autumn rain. When you awaken in the morning’s hush, I am the swift, uplifting rush of quiet birds in circled flight. I am the soft stars that shine at night. Do not think of me as gone - I am with you still - in each new dawn.

May all the deceased members of the Virginia Tech community find peace in Gods unending love.

As A Tech graduate of over fifty years, I share the horrow and anguish that pervades the Tech campus following the events of April 16, 2997 - it brings to mind the events of September 11, and has even more impact on me. It has challenged the many positive views of Tech that have helped to strenghtened and sustained me over the years.  There is a song that is sounding throuth my head as a viewed the proceedings of the past few days. It has helped placate my grief - perhaps it will work for others.  The opening line is “You gotta accent the positive, eliminate the negative...”

Yes we are a Hokie Nation!  We will prevail!  It is hard to beleive that this terrible thing has happened here in Virginia.  My heart goes out to all of you;

A rose for mother and father,
A child to bring love and smiles instead of tears,
God picked a beautiful rose to come and stay.

Baby’s sweet smile and special love,
Brought parents, brothers, sisters, and kin, a glimpse of heaven to you here,

High school behind and college here,
Who would have thought they would be there less than a year,

Friends, class mates, and teachers were touched,
Everyone missed them so much,
Families and friends can never forget,
The thought things that each one did,
The child so loved,
God has taken to decorate his throne.
All they left behind remember,
God gave them all to us to enjoy for a little while.

We go about our work on a normal day,
Then a thought, comes unbidded, they have gone away.
Never to have that loving hug and hello kiss,
Dear God! Only you can help us through this.
We will have to live this life the best that we can,
And with your grace, meet them in the promised land.

(This was taken from a peom wrote by family member many years ago...it helped me then, may it help you now)

There is no way that anyone could ever know exactly how you all feel.... no one can replace what you have lost. I know that Virginia Tech has been on all of our minds and in our hearts here at VCU. If you ever need to get away, we will be your place to stay.. only a very long 3 hour drive.

Words cannot express the sadness that I feel for all of those who died and their grieving families.  I graduated from SIUC.  I realize that the Salukis beat out the Hokies in the men’s basketball NCAA tournament this year.  But eventhough we may be rivals, at least on one occasion, may we all unite and support the spirit and pride of the Hokies and what it must mean to be a Hokie.  I will be wearing something maroon and orange on 04/20/07.  May God bless, comfort you all in Blacksburg, VA and all those directly effected with such an unspeakable tragedy.  Scott Rich, Marion, IL West 56

Beautiful Lives

Beautiful lives ended too soon
There was still so much to do
To learn
To grow
To share with one another
And the world out there

Leaving behind friends, loved ones
Many who will never know you
Our hearts filled with sadness
Our minds left with only questions
And the realization that this could have been
Any one of us

Rest in peace
We hold you, your families and loved ones
In our thoughts and prayers
And we will hold each other closer

As we come together to mourn this tragedy
And to honor your lives
We will learn
We will grow
We will come together
To share with one another
And the world out there

Your beautiful lives
Will never be forgotten
