I have tried, without success, to sign onto the website of Dan O’Neil, one of the victims.  He enjoyed playing guitar and singing, and posted pictures and recordings of himself and friends.  I want to honor him by seeing/hearing what he wanted seen and heard, but my computer won’t let me.  Perhaps someone with knowledge and access can do to the site what needs to be done to enable the rest of us to see and hear him.

I am deeply saddened by the tragic events of April 16th. Although I am not a Hokie, many of my family and friends graduated from VA Tech and Tech has always been a part of my life. While there’s nothing I can say that will ease your loss, I wanted you to know I am grieving with you and thinking of you during this time. May the love of family and friends comfort you. God Bless.

To the Students, Staff, Faculty, and Administration of Virginia Tech, to the Grieving Families, and to the Citizens of Blacksburg:

On behalf of the Administrative Professional Staff at Southern Illinois University Carbondale, may I offer our deep and sincere condolences to each one of you after your recent losses.  This tragic event struck very close to home on our campus and we can only offer words of support, sorrow, and encouragement as you mourn and begin to recover.

Many of us work with individuals who either graduated from or served as faculty or staff at VT, or we know students who have friends and family there.  Their reactions and disbelief as events unfolded this week was particularly difficult to watch.

With heavy hearts we reach out to all of you during this time of sorrow and healing.

Sincerely,

Charlotte A. Gibson, Chair
Administrative Professional Staff Council

It is hard to come up with words to be of any help or encourgement at this hour. Virginia Tech, Blacksburg, and alumni are in my thoughts. I am a college student in Atlanta,GA. I first thought that as a student, especially at the end of the academic year, you are focused on getting final great grades and having an awesome summer.I have definitely put many things into perspective. Hold you head up. VT, I support you.

To all the students at VT, stay strong.  To all the families and friends that lost a loved one, my deepest condolences go out to you.  This terrible crime is just another reminder that life is a precious gift that should be cherished.  I leave you with this poem;

I walked amongst the clouds today
and then I took a seat,
to try to understand the world
that spun beneath my feet.
It was the grandest picture
my eyes had ever seen.
I couldn’t make out colors-
except for blue and green.
And yet, I could see people;
a whole race on the run.
To tell the truth, from where I sat,
they clearly moved as one.
With fear, they searched for answers
they thought were on the ground.
And though they spoke in different tongues,
they made the sweetest sound.
They had the wrong perspective,
with no way they could know:
There are no individuals,
but just parts of a whole.
And so I made a wish for them,
that someday they would see:
Only when they really love
is when they’re really free.
I’ll dance amongst the stars tonight,
while others search in vain.
For just above their point of view,
there’s no such thing as pain.

I cannot even begin to imagine what all of you must be going through right now.  I know I am deeply saddened and disturbed by this senseless act that could have possibly been avoided.  Although your hearts, souls, minds and bodies are feeling their lowest right now, just know that it is part of the healing process and it will soon get better.  Lean on your friends, family, and fellow VT family and know that you are all going through the same thing and you will get through it together.  You are the VT Hokies and you can overcome anything.  My thoughts and prayers are with each and everyone of you everyday and I will be wearing the Hokie Orange and Maroon tomorrow along with you all.  Be strong, stick together and time will heal your pain.  Love and sympathy to all.

This tragedy will always be on my heart--to pray for the young people who survived, and to pray for the parents, friends and relatives who lost their precious young people that day!!
My prayer is based on my Christian faith that God thru Jesus Christ will give you all the peace that passes all understanding. His Word is Life and Truth and I pray that in your moments of sadness and unhappiness that you will turn to the ancient pages of the Bible for help and inspiration to continue living and believing that there is still good in the world and that we can have faith in a living saviour who will comfort us in this world, and be with Him in the next, thru faith.
There are no more words than this. My love to you all, N. Skinner

As a student that attended VT for all 3 degrees, a VT faculty member, and now a parent of 3 young boys that want to attend VT, my heart breaks for the families and friends of the victims of this tragedy. My 10 year old son begged me not to return to campus and said that he was afraid to go to another VT football game.  I have assured him as I want to assure all of those who are considering leaving Tech or not attending Tech because of these horrific events, that it is not only a university, but a national family that has been brought closer together through this tragedy.  As a parent, I want my children to consider attending VT.  As a current PhD student, I will continue my program.  As a faculty member, I urge everyone to remember the Tech community for its determination, strength, and grace during this time.

I speak for my entire family, when I say we share in your pain, your anguish and your suffering for your loss.  Mere words cannot express how we feel, but a simple prayer i hope will do:
Lord, we know you are a just God, a powerful God, an all knowing God. Please be with our Family and friends at this time.  Help them to understand, give them peace, solace, and comfort. Take our hearts into YOUR hands, Father God; give them strength for the next moments, hours, days, months, yes and even years to come. I pray that You bless these families..., and see them through these tough times, in your Son’s name.... Amen

Our country, our world shares in the grief that has touched your life.
Only time will help to heal your wounds so deep.
God is beside you and will always be.
These men and women young and old taken so tragically are in a better place.
They stand with God by their side.
This life as we know it is short and theirs now is forever.
They will never again know pain, only peace and happiness.
Time only will help you to understand and to feel.
God bless each and every one of you.
This tragedy has touched my life so deeply.
Having known none personally, but as though knowing all.
I wish each family that has lost a love one, each student whom witnessed and your entire school community my heart, heart felt sympathy.
You will be in my thoughts and prayers always.

Our hearts are crying and our eyes are filled with tears for the senseless loss that you all are being forced to endure.  There are no words that can begin to convey the agony and sympathy that so many of us feel for you as individuals and together as a community, especially after having been through a similar battle with the evil that perpetrates such horror and injustice on innocent and unsuspecting lives. Please know that you are all surrounded by prayer and hope for things that are truly good and pure to prevail through such a time as this.

I read about these events on the London Underground where not so long ago many lives were also lost.

I’m not sure why these events happen. Where is the care gone for eachother?

My heart goes out to you all.

However possible we have to make these events spur a possitive step forward - to make the world a better place.

I send you my love.
