Some of the lines from one of my favorite songs go:

“Pictures fade away, but memories are forever...For now we’ll say goodbye, we know it’s not the last time”

Hold tightly to the memories of your friends, professors, children, siblings, relatives… whoever they may be. Those memories will always be with you, and consequently the victims’ spirits will live on and shine forever.

To all the students, faculty and family...my thoughts and prayers are with you all.  I’ve spent a lot of time thinking about how short life is and how much we really need each other.  We all can lean on each other for support in this time of loss, and we will be united as one, Hokies in spirit, mind and body.

Our hearts go out to all the students, faculty, and families at VT.  My daughter is an alumnus of VT and our family is a “Hokie” family.  We are so proud of how well you have all shouldered this terrible burden, but we are not surprised by your bravery and support for each other.  We have seen first-hand the wonderful hokie spirit that makes Virginia Tech the best college campus in the country.  Please remember as you go through the coming weeks and months of grief and confusion, that you have a family that extends all over the world who love and support you!  May God bless all of you who have survived this tragedy and help you to move forward.  And may He comfort those of you who have lost loved ones and help you to find peace.

Don’t look for me at Norris
nor at Ambler Johnston Hall
For I have been invited
to the highest place of all
I will not be in class today
You won’t see me in the hall
It will take some time, I guess
to get used to it all
I did not get to say goodbye
and now I can not call
There are no cell phone towers here
No, no signal at all
Please don’t be sad, you see
I heard the Shepard call
I had to go, he asked for me
He was waiting in the hall
If you knew the peace I felt
I’m sure you wouldn’t blame me
At his feet I went and knelt
and let his love sustain me

This tragedy is so sad and horrific.  As an alum of VT, I know that the VT family worldwide and Blacksburg will rise above and prevail for the Hokie spirit is unbreakable.  God needed 32 innocent angels and He chose some of the world’s finest.  My deepest thoughts and prayers go out to those who lost a loved one or had a loved one injured, as well as the student body, faculty, and staff and the VT administration, law enforcement, medical staff, and all those involved in the investigation, care, and counseling of this tragedy.  The world is praying for you.  God Bless you all!  Caren

Do not stand by my grave and weep
I am not there. I do not sleep
I am a thousand winds that blow
I am a diamond glint on snow
I am the sunlight on ripened grain
I am the gentle autumn rain.

When you awake in the morning bush
I am the swift uplifting rush
Of quiet birds in circling flight
I am the soft starshine at night
Do not stand by my grave and cry
I am not there… I did not die.

Hokies, our thoughts and prayers are with you all across the country and the world as you recover from this senseless tragedy. I have fond memories of your school, as well as your marching band doing the “hokie pokie!” As a recent college graduate, this hit close to home as some of my friends from high school attend VT.  God Bless you Hokies, and remember, today, we are ALL HOKIES!

This incident is not just your tragedy but a tragedy to us all. Any decent human being would hurt and feel the pain of such promising lives cut short, and a peace which has now, been interrupted. My prayer is that restoration prevails.

I am saddened that this has happened. I was especially moved by the death of Liviu Lebrescu, a survivor of the Holocaust. Sixty years later, God needed him to stand in a doorway and save the lives of others while he lost his. I try so hard to believe in the goodness of people; that, as Americans, we try to do right by our fellow men and women. Just when we begin to think everything is going well, the unthinkable strikes. God Bless.  Martha Dolciamore

My partner and I were utterly shocked when we heard of this terrible tragedy.  Our thoughts and prayers are with all of you at this most trying time.  No one has the right to do this to people and we hope that your government will finally come to its senses when it comes to gun control.  We pray that you will find the strength and courage to deal with this tragedy.

As we follow the events that have taken place at VT, we begin to share the suffering, pain, and loss that the Hokie community is trying to comprehend.  How can something this tragic of this magnitude happen in such a peaceful learning environment?  My memories and experiences at VT are some of the fondest of my life, even during the very stressful Vietnam War era.  We hope and pray the students, faculty, and community can pull together and heal from the tragedy.

Only God knows now what great things your young lives held for you, what you might have become and what great things you would have done with your time at college. Because of that, my heart breaks for each of you.

A parent should never have to bury a child and for that my heart goes out to all of the friends and family of the VT students. This was a senseless tragedy that hopefully can at least wake schools up to the warning signs and help them develop some type of protocol for dealing with those type of people before it’s too late and goes this far.

God bless the families and keep them as strong as possible.

To all of you affected by the tragedy at Virginia Tech.  To find words of comfort is close to impossible.  I can’t say I understand, because I don’t.  I can say though that my thoughts and prayers are with all of you.  The senseless death of all these beautiful people saddens me beyond belief.  I am so sorry that the heartache brought on by this is so painful.  It is painful for me and I haven’t lost anyone.  Please stay strong, I wish I could make this all go away for you and your families.
