I know that my consolatory words cannot totally wipe out the tears of the loved ones, but I am with you in this hour of grief to share the pain.

I’ve been staring at this screen thinking of something meaningful to say, something that expresses just how saddened I am by such a tragedy, but for all I write, and rewrite, nothing seems to adequately capture my feelings, my sorrow for this tragic loss for not only the Hokie Nation, but for our entire Nation. Our thoughts and prayers are with you.

Sometimes a day
that should greet you with joy
can bring memories
that burden your heart with tears.
Through your tears
may you see healing.
In your memories
may you find peace.

We are not VT grads or from Virginia, but as so many have said over the last few days, we and so many others around the country and world are Hokies from now on. We think we speak on behalf of University of Alabama graduates everywhere that our prayers are with each of you and we hope that God is able to give you peace in this time of sorrow. God bless each family who lost a loved one and each member of the Va Tech family.

“He will wipe away every tear from their eyes, and death shall be no more, neither shall there be mourning, nor crying, nor pain anymore, for the former things have passed away.”

As a fellow college student, I know how closely one bonds with the friends you make at school, as well as how much it hurts to lose friends to a death that came far too soon. The University of Maine’s thoughts and prayers are with you, VT. Remember the good times with those you lost, and not the pain of losing them. I hope that in the days to come your hearts start to heal again, and that you can see past the horror of this moment.

Go Hokies.

To Virginia Tech students, staff, their families and friends

We said a prayer for you last night
I know that you don’t mind
One for those who have gone ahead
One for those left behind

Someone you loved has gone ahead
You didn’t what to part
But they will always be with you
Just look inside your heart

In time you will be together
God’s Promise I believe
That soon we’ll be with those we love
And didn’t want to leave

This time for you will seem forever
And pass so slowly by
But for those who have gone ahead
The twinkling of an eye

They will patiently be waiting
To be with you some day
A family back together
As if neither had gone away

I prayed your friends and families love
Will overflow your heart
And remember familes separate
But never are apart

as a college student at Jones County Junior College, I am horrified and saddened by the events at Virginia Tech. I can only pray for the victims and their families that were affected by this tragedy and that God watches over them as they go through their time of grieving. Virginia Tech is a bastion of tranquility and learning and I know that the Hokie spirit will prevail over such heinous and terrible action. May God bless and keep those who are in deep sorrow over these recent events

We are a small High School in Vancouver, British Columbia, and our staff especially wish to send their condolences and thoughts to Virginia Tech and its families.  We ourselves experienced the tragedy of the sensless loss of a student four years ago after a beating incident.  We are on a continuum of healing, and know how difficult it is to be at the beginning of such a tragedy and wondering in what direction we could possibly go as a community. What we learned is that there is power in involving the whole community and in finding a way forward, slowly, and often blindly, together.  We are thinking of you and wish you strength and heart for the coming times.

Dear Hokie Students,

As a 4th year student at UNC-Charlotte (49’ers), I am sure I speak for our entire student body when I say there are no words to express how we grieve for you and the families of all the students and faculty which were lost on Monday. This should have never happened and I pray it never happens again. No student should have to fear for his/her life while on a college campus.  No parent should have to live in constant agony because they can not be there to protect their child. No family member of a professor should have to wish they had chosen a different profession. College is for learning and preparing for the rest of your life, not killing. Right now there is a little bit of “HOKIE” in every student in our great nation.  That Hokie pride will help get you through the pain but most of all God will be there for you if you only ask and, just know, that our prayers are overflowing for each of you.

My thoughts are with you all today as I think back to my college years.  I attended Keene State College and Brigham Young University.  How those experiences enriched my life!

My heart goes out to the victim’s families, most especially to those of the professors.  Few activities have brought me more joy than teaching.  I’m presently taking the courses that will qualify me to teach at the college level.  Among those courses I will teach is a language (Spanish).

Know that these professors were doing the thing that they loved the most.  That we may all find that life’s work that brings us joy, for when we are doing the thing that brings us happiness, we reverberate that happiness to others.

I stated this in an entry last night, and felt the need to restate it here:  The words and lyrics to a favorite musical, Into The Woods, have been on my mind.  “Someone will be near you.  You are not alone.” May you come to know and feel this now and throughout your lives.

My thoughts and prayers will be with you as I attend my language class at Northern Virginia Community College tonight.

It is with deep regret that I am posting this message right now, however it is with profound honor that I am able to call myself a Hokie in this time of crisis.  As an VT grad I was saddened when the first news broke.  As an Engineering Science and Mechanics grad my heart sank when I found out it happened at Norris Hall and I knew that there were several people in that building that were an inspiration to my life.

Over the course of the last few days I have seen the reason that I am proud to be a Hokie radiate from a campus stricken by tragedy.  That reason is the love for the university and strength that all of the students, faculty and staff have shown.  We hear stories of a professor sacrificing himself so his students have a chance at survival.  We see the strength of students that were involved come out with their determination to graduate a Hokie even considering the events that just took place.  This is the reason that my daughter will still be encouraged to grow up a Hokie.

Our hearts go out to all the family, friends, faculty, staff, and alumni that have been affected so deeply by this tragedy and know that the Hokie Nation will move forward, but we will never forget April 16, 2007.

‘Our Broken Earth‘ By John J. Ruppert 4-18-2007

So many questions that will never be answered
So many breaths that won’t ever be taken
We’re living inside a world surrounded by hate
This perfect place called Earth is breaking

And the pieces they are falling from the skies
Like the tears that flow from a survivors eyes
The blood of the innocent ones covers our land
We’ve got to come together and make a stand

It doesn’t matter who we are or where we live
This imperfect world finds it’s way to your door
Then leaves you with endless pain and sorrow
Please God we can’t take this way of life anymore

As we search for the answers we know we’ll never find
We hear once again about another assault on mankind
Another story that will make our children cry at night
Another reason why this world’s in the dark not the light

You see only time will tell if we will survive as a race
Or just die by our own hands laying forever in disgrace
And only you and I can change the ending of this play
But we’ve got to come together and become one today!

My deep condolences on the loss of so many promising students and honorable professors.  I, too, am an educator; that such a horrific act would be played out anywhere, especially on a college campus, is truly disconcerting.

As a mother of five, my love and empathy go to the parents of the students who lost their lives.  May God bless you with peace and understanding as you try to make sense of this senseless act.
