Condolences, April 19, 2007

There are moments like these, that words just cannot express the horror and greif that is on my heart right now.

All my prayers and heartfelt pain goes out to you and your families. If there is someone that hasn’t heard from you in a while, why not take the time to call them and tell them how much you love them and need them.

I pray that today be all that you need it to be, just sufficient for the day.

May the peace of God and the freshness of the Holy Spirit rest in your thoughts, rule in your dreams tonight and conquer all your fears.

May God manifest himself today in ways that you have never experienced.

May your joys be fulfilled, your dreams be drawn closer to you and your prayers be answered.

I pray that faith will enter into a new height for you, I pray that your territory is enlarged and I pray that you step into your destiny within a ministry for him.

I pray for peace, health, happiness and that you always walk in truth and that you will have an undying love for God.

In Jesus’ name, Amen.

"They’re All Our Children”

Even though they may not be the physical children of our bodies, they’re the emotional children of our hearts.  As a Northern Virginia parent, I know that we share many of the children from this area with Virginia Tech.  We all know someone attending there - - we’re all connected somehow.

Now, we’re all connected in pain and sorrow.  As we wait for the release of names, we share in the devastating loss of these beautiful young people, whomever they may be, who had so much potential for our world.  Please know that we are all also connected through our prayers, and even from afar, our faith willl lend you strength.

I am so deeply saddened by the tragedy you have all experienced on Monday and wish so much we could just turn back time so that all those beautiful lives could be spared.  They all seemed like exceptional human beings and it is terribly unfair that their lives ended in that manner...or at all.  I pray for all of the victims, the loved ones they leave behind and for all of you on campus who are grieving.  The whole nation is thinking of you in your time of sorrow.  I hope all of you find peace soon.

I would like to offer my condolences for the recent horrifying tragedy that took place this week.  My thoughts and prayers are with you at this time.  I went to school in Botetourt County and lived in Roanoke, so a large portion of my high school classmates and friends ended up attending Tech.  Your university is one of the best in the nation, and there is no doubt in my mind that you will be resilient and recover from the senseless violence against your school.  We are all Hokies this week and you have our undying sympathy and support.  We are all taking out our VT flags and stickers that are usually reserved for the football season, and flying them proudly on our homes and vehicles.

To those who lost their lives:  I don’t know how this could have happened.  I don’t understand why this has happened.  But I do know that you are with God now, and no longer feel the pain your fellow human has put on you.  I apologize for the entire human race for being capable of such a travesty.  Hopefully we will learn from our mistakes so your death won’t be in vain.  You will NEVER be forgotten, and you will ALWAYS be loved.

God Bless.

From: Mike Smith, Yum Kwang CEC, Seoul Korea

Regarding the Recent Massacre.

I used to work in South Korea, until this Tragedy occurred; the actions of Mr.Cho are reflected daily in the lives of his (our)country men. I have lived in South Korea for over 7 years. Teaching and I have to tell you after this incident I can’t anymore, be blind to the Insanity and the injustices that the South Koreans inflict on each other and now the world. The Cruelty and Violence here is a daily practice. I only wrote this after, I was told by 1 Taxi driver that The Massacre and Mr.Cho were AMERICAN and that Americans and America is a very bad Place full of Violence and Hatred. I then received many phone calls about similar remarks made to every Perceived Caucasian, Every white person is perceived as an American First. So My Canadian, British, Aussie and Kiwi friends were all being lectured about How Bad America is, to let this happen.

I then had to write to you and say to you, investigate his family. Such Violence is inbred in this Country (Korea) and in this Society; here books on Anti Semitism are lauded as the truth. Hate Crimes of such a nature are accepted as a Just way to kill the Jewish people.

One verse and chours from a song I wrote in 2004, entitled ‘Believe in You’

‘Sometimes you feel like your life is torn apart
You’re scared and lonely, wandering in the dark
You’ve lost all hope, and no one understands
Reach out and someone, will take your hand.

And if you believe what I say is true
That is all you have to do
And know that love will see you through If you
If you believe in it, it will believe in you.’

Virginia Tech holds a special place in my heart as I was a graduate teaching assistant there from 1995 to 1997.

I do not get the chance to see images of Virginia Tech on Philippine TV and it was painful to see the campus that I hold so dear make it to the news in such a tragic fashion.

Still, know that in an office hundreds of miles away there is a maroon banner that is proudly displayed.

All my prayers to my fellow Hokies. We will prevail.
