To the Virginia Tech (whom I consider as family), all my thoughts and prayers go out to you all. While words cannot truly express the grievance stemming from these tragic events, what is truly guaranteed is the support you will receive by those around you. An indelible mark has burdened the campus, but forever will we memorialize those who have fallen and together will we stand to unite and overcome such events. Tears will be shed, hugs will be given, and thoughts of loved ones will incessantly rush to our minds - yet, through this process of healing, we will stand together. We are all Hokies. R.I.P. to those who have fallen.

As a current student at the University of Texas at Arlington, the news of this tragic event is truly heartbreaking.  This could have happened at UTA or on any other campus and the results would have been the same; our University President would not have known exactly what to do, and our police squad would have been shocked but done the best possible given the circumstances.  Granted, now, all schools are reviewing their crisis plans, but before almost every other University faculty and staff would have responded in the same was as those of VT.  My prayers are with all families affected with this tragedy and my hopes are that, because of this incident, any like it will be prevented in the future.

To My Brothers and Sisters and their families,

I cannot begin to express the sorrow I feel for your loss. It is beyond words. I have lost family and close friends in the past, but the shock and grief I feel for you is equally great.

You have all handled this tragic event with grace and dignity. The cohesiveness that you have exhibited is amazing for a group of some 30 thousand. You are all in my thoughts and prayers.

Life will go on. It will be forever different, but you will work through this and it will go on.

As a 1982 Tech graduate, I share in the grief of the Blacksburg community, and am reminded of the unique bond we alumni have with you, in good times and bad.  I am so proud of the students I’ve seen interviewed on television and admire your courage and composure.  In the aftermath, we all share responsibility for showing the world what we’re made of, but you, the student body (and faculty), have been exceptional - you have put an articulate and compassionate face on this tragedy.  Peace and blessings to you all.

I think of you often
and make no outward show,
But what it means to lose you,
no one will ever know
You wished no one farewell,
not even said good-bye,
You were gone before I knew it,
and only God knows why.
You are not forgotten
nor will you ever be,
As long as life and memories last,
I will remember thee.
To some you may be forgotten,
to others a part of the past,
But to me who loved you dearly,
your memories will always last.
Nothing can be more beautiful
than the memories I have of you.
To me, you were someone special,
God must have thought so too!
If tears could build a staircase
and memories a lane,
I would walk all the way to Heaven,
and bring you back again.

To My Fellow Hokie Family:

There are no words of comfort, no great sayings, or a time frame that will make it magically feel better or make the hurt go away.  But the Hokie family has arms that stretch far in this great nation, and the support and love that we provide one another, the simple gesture of a hug from a neighbor, the shoulder provided to cry on, the sharing of a story about a loved one lost - the memories we will carry in our hearts always of those we have lost.  Our family will grow stronger, and will not be defeated, and our love for one another and our community will see us through this.  God bless each of you that had to deal with this on that tragic day.  You are all my heroes, and you will not be forgotten.  I know now that there are 32 angels in Heaven, looking down on us, protecting our Hokie nation.  We pray for you.

Hearing about the shooting that happened at Virginia Tech. hit really close when I read the article on MSNBC when I was at my campus library researching for a paper.  I can only begin to imagine the pain and anguish everyone at the campus must be faced with right now and I would like to send my deepest condolances.  It’s times like these where WHY is the biggest question asked, but no real answer can be given.  My heart feels heavy everytime I hear about this mass tragedy and I can only imagine…

I speak for everyone at the University of St. Thomas when I say the following:

We are extremely saddened and send our condolences to the students, faculty, and families that have been affected by this tragedy.

The laws and rules in all schools need to be changed to dissolve, help, and notify authorities to be able to take action against any persons who show this type of destructive personality.

Our love, sympathy and, prayers go out to all of you.

God Bless you all and take care, The University of St. Thomas and the United States of America are with you.

To the VT community,

I am a college student in California who grew up in Virginia, and even all these miles away you are all on our minds here in Berkeley. We had a candlelight vigil last night, and college students across the country are uniting behind you in this tragic time. We will remember all of those lost, and all of those touched by them who live on in this time of sorrow and pain.

You are all in my heart and thoughts.

I’m so sorry - I’ll never forget them.

April 19, 2007, 1:56am • Northampton, MA. • #26605

It seems that our only response is to weep with you. What can we say? In your grief, which must feel totally unbearable, please try to remember that God suffers with you. His son, Jesus, died at the hands of angry people so he knows how you feel. He couldn’t stop them either. But life came out of his death. Try not to drown in your anger and sadness. You will heal in time.

The stories and images of your courage and grief have stirred me to try to do something to change your horrible world. So, as an RU graduate, a teacher and a mother, I am telling my students one thing...Be wise, be safe and be kind to others. Your simple kindness towards a young student, may change them so they will know someone cares about them and not grow up to be a bitter, angry person.

We are praying for you often each day. We love you even though we don’t know each of you. As You are challenging us to work harder to make the world a place of compassion and kindess. Thank you for being an example to the world. You ARE touching others with your lives. Don’t ever forget that. Lynn Metzger

I cannot even begin to imagine the pain and sadness that each and every one of you at Virginia Tech are going through. I know as a fellow college student and member of a college community what it’s like to identify with that comminuty and hope that I never have to find out what it’s like to have that community compromised as has happened to your community. I offer my sincerest condolences to all the families and friends of those who have passed on. You have shown amazing strength to our nation, you have friends around the world grieving with you.

No one can ever predict what will happen from day to day in this world of ours, which seems to be so, so troubled at this particular time.  Between our problems overseas and now this horrible tragedy here at home in Virginia, our world just seems so depressing at times.  However, we all must stick together in times of loss and despair, as I truly believe there are more good people in this world than bad, and show our love and support to all the students at Virginia Tech., their families and also, the faculty whose hearts are also grieving for their losses.  They have been struck with such a terrible and horrific tragedy that no one should ever have to experience.  My thoughts and prayers are with you all every day and I hope and pray that you will find comfort in your faith from a loving God, who will guide us all through this with the hope of a better tomorrow for everyone.

Sincerely,

C.A.M.
