Condolences, April 19, 2007

As a mother of four young adults that attend colleges, my heart breaks when I imagine the magnitude of suffering.  I want to encourage you, especially Zach Petkewicz, who acted with others preventing further bloodshed at the risk of their own, you did the best you could, thank you! This event was simply the senseless act of a ill-minded person. Pray to the Almighty; for His faithfulness is sure and His peace is complete and everlasting.
Shalom!

I am so sorry to hear about the loss of all these beautiful people.  It is heartbreaking to hear this awful story unravel before our eyes.  I want to let ye all know that ye are in my prayers and thoughts at this troubling time.  I hope ye remain to gain strength from each other and know that we are all thinking of ye here in Ireland.

God Bless,
Sarah Hoare.

A student walked into my office at a community college the morning of April 17th wearing a maroon Virginia Tech sweatshirt.  When I asked the student what I could do for them, they said they needed help picking out classes to take that would transfer to Virginia Tech. I paused for a moment, speechless.  The student looked me square in the eye and said, “There isn’t anything that could happen down there that could keep me from going to that school.”

Blessed be the Hokies.  You are loved and supported.

As an alumna, I’m devastated to think that something so tragic could happen on our “sacred ground” in Blacksburg. My heart aches for every Hokie, especially those students and faculty on campus April 16th. I find solace from my fellow Hokies for their high level of integrity and the extreme loyalty and solidarity for OUR Virginia Tech. In time, we will prevail through this tragedy with a stronger faith in knowing that nothing can break the Hokie spirit.

Our hearts and prayers will always include the fellow Hokies lost on April 16th.

As a mother, sister, daughter, aunt and friend, my heart is breaking for those families that have lost a loved one in this absolute act of selfish anger!  The pain of this act will ripple through all of humanity like a pebble thrown in a lake, but we must have faith that calm will one day come again for all of us.  Those that have fallen are in the loving arms of their Creator where there is no more pain or fear, only peace!  Blessings to all!
Go Hokies!

I lived in Virginia for over three years.  I met many Tech alumni while I was there, and the one thing I will never forget is the loyalty and love that each had for their school.  It’s something that I have never really seen anywhere else.  It’s beyond sad that it took the tragic events on Monday to show this loyalty and love to the world.  I offer my deepest sympathies to the families and friends of all those affected.  We are all here for you and stay strong.

On April 16th brilliant minds were senselessly snuffed out.  Future scientists, researchers, and leaders that would have made our world a better place were taken in a horrific act of violence.  Our heartfelt sympathies, thoughts, tears and prayers are will all the families who loved lost ones and also those who have been affected by this unimaginable tragedy.  May you know that your loved ones will forever live in your hearts, minds, thoughts and prayers.

Do not stand at my grave and weep
I am not there. I do not sleep.
I am in the softly falling snow.
I am in the sunlight on ripened grain.
I am in the gentle autumn rain.
When you awaken in the morning’s hush,
I am the swift uplifting rush
of quiet birds in circled flight.
I am the soft stars that shine at night.
Do not stand at my grave and cry
I AM NOT THERE.  I DID NOT DIE.

God bless.
