As parents of a Virginia Tech student poised to graduate in a few weeks, the events of the last few days have been heart-wrenching to witness.  The Borel family; Garth, Lise, Brynne and Paige extend our condolences, thoughts and prayers to the families whose tragic losses defy understanding, to those who are recovering from physical and emotional injuries and to all of those who are desperately struggling to cope.

Life is a precious gift and even in the face of unimaginable horror, death and sadness, the Virginia Tech community continues to exemplify the light of hope, spirit, strength and dignity. I know in my heart that our daughter Paige, along with all of the courageous Hokie students, will dedicate their lives to becoming the best they can be and will leave a legacy of pride and joy and hold dear a powerful and passionate love for life.

Thoughts of sympathy and compassion to everyone at VT and the Blacksburg community.  My daughter recieved her masters at VT two years ago and we still have many good friends in the area.  Also keep the fire, police and ems who responded to this tragedy in your thoughts.  As a Clemson graduate, I noted that the Clemson University web site includes the banner “Today we are all Hokies.”

To the students/teachers who were shot---we absorb your energy. All the goodness, positivity, creativity, and love----it still lives!!! We celebrate you and are so, so, so grateful for the portion of your journey that you walked/walk here.

To everyone who is hurting inside---PLEASE talk to somebody!!! And, remember, that the Creator is just a prayer away; He loves you.

Peace & love to the VT community, family & friends....Peace & love to humanity. May you fulfill your amazing destinies.

My heart goes out to all of you who have been hurt yourselves or lost loved ones.  I am a mother, and the picture of a mom who had come to campus that horrible day to find her son brought me to tears.  I cannot imagine the pain all of you must have felt on that day and every day since.  I want you to know that you are not alone.  God is with you and he does heal the brokenhearted.  You will never forget, but the paralyzing fear and sorrow you are feeling now will fade and you will be left with memories of cherished relationships.  God is with you, and you can feel his presences and his peace if you just allow yourself to.  Ask and ye shall recieve.  My sincerest wishes to you for comfort and healing.

Dear Families, Friends, Hokies and all affected by this tragedy. I am keeping you dearly in my prayers. Our Father, which art in Heaven,
Hallowed be thy Name.
Thy kingdom come.
Thy will be done,
in earth as it is in Heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread.
And forgive us our trespasses,
As we forgive them that trespass against us.
And lead us not into temptation;
But deliver us from evil:
[For thine is the kingdom, The power, and the glory,
For ever and ever.] Amen.

May The Lord continue to bless you and your families . “ Blessed are those who mourn for they will be comforted”

Dear Students, Faculty and staff of VT,

Our thoughts and prayers go out to you in this time of mourning at the loss of several promising young people and faculty.  In the past three day I can do nothing but think about your grief and sadness that you all are going thru.  I pray that my Savior the Lord Jesus will be with you and surround you with his love and care.  It is hard to know at this point that this has happened for a reason, but it has an one day we will know why.  My prayers for the family of the lost and prayers for the remaining are that you find solace in knowing the there is a GOD and HE WAS, HE IS and ALWAYS WILL BE.  If for some reason you don’t know JESUS—He is there for you ALL the time.  I wish I could be there to help in this crises but I know that the best this I can do for you is pray.  May God bless you and keep you may His face to shine upon you and may He give you peace.

I don’t mean in any way to sound callous by quoting from a TV show but an episode of ‘One Tree Hill’ dealt with a school shooting and I felt the voice over at the end was very poignant and reflects many people’s thoughts at this time…

‘What happened to us? That we now send our children out into the world like we send young men to war, hoping for their safe return, but knowing that some will be lost along the way. When did we lose our way?’

Please know that you are all in my prayers, my thoughts and in my heart.

Along with Brian Bluhm and Matt Gwaltney, I was a graduate student in the Environmental and Water Resources department under Dr. Loganathan, graduating in 2006.  He inspired his graduate students with his warm spirit, thoroughness, and desire to gain knowledge.  He was an expert in water resources engineering but never desired recognition, always giving credit to his students and colleagues.  His attention was asked from many but at all times he put students first.  We hope that he knew how much we appreciated him.  To many of us Dr. Loganathan is the face of our graduate experience.  His loss will be felt forever by every student that he influenced.  Brian was a good person, focused on his water resources graduate work.  I will remember him as a happy person because he was always smiling.  Matt was focused and hard-working who was always in good spirits.  I enjoyed being around Matt because he had positive presence about him.  Brian and Matt loved to discuss Hokie sports in the Patton Hall graduate office.  Their enthusiasm was contagious and caused others to engage in the conversation.  All alumni of the Civil Engineering department have the victims, their families and friends, and the department in our prayers.-Eric LaRocque
