Condolences, April 19, 2007

Our thoughts and prayers are with the survivors of this horrible tragedy, as well as the families and friends of the victims.  I can not imagine what it would be like to go through something like this; or to lose a son, daughter, brother, sister, or other family member to such an open display of hatred toward humanity. I am the pastor of Palmer Heights Baptist Church in Springfield,MO .  I can not begin to imagine how the victims’ families are dealing with the grief. I really wish there was something I could do, other than just pray.  If anyone wants to email me, I’d be happy to hear from you. In the meantime, I and my church will pray every day that your fears and grief lesson each day.  God Bless You All!

Why.....?
an opener to a question,
to understand a situation, which is unlikely to follow,
even an answer is given.

Why.....?
on one bright morning be turned to a dark soulless day,
countless sacred lives being senselessly taken away,
was a generation with promising futures fatally punished,
there still are stained hearts amongst us…

Why.....?
Please, no more!
Stop asking why. Stop wanting to know more. Stop being too curious.
For it will only shatters the confused and pain-stricken,
For it will only lingers in one’s mind for so long,
For it will only deepens our great grief.
We will never understand…
Just leave it be.

* Not everything in the world happens for a reason. Certainly not on April 16th at Virginia Tech. Especially not in such a way. Nothing justifies their premature departures. But their deaths will not be in vain. We celebrate the lives of each male and female who have fallen on that fateful day. We grief for they will not be with us forever but we hold them dear in our hearts.

- from Malaysia with deepest sympathy and condolences to the AFFECTED FAMILY, STUDENTS, LECTURERS & DEANS of VIRGINIA TECH, the VIRGINIAN COMMUNITY and the AMERICAN PEOPLE in general.

As a parent of a 2005 VT graduate, I feel a heaviness in my heart for the parents who will never embrace their child again...or attend a football game with their son or daughter..or share all those wonderful things to do together at VT. Embrace your friends and loved ones… We are all connected...the Hokie Nation and we all feel the pain.

We are so sorry for all who are suffering from this horrific event.  As a father of four who have recently gone through college this has hit us very close to home.  We are with you families in every way and pray that you will be somehow comforted knowing that these young people lived their lives well.  We will see them again someday.  Until then, our thoughts and prayers are with you.

Saying I’m sorry is so little but I didn’t know any words that can express how I feel about these young people and their professors.  As the news reveals who the victims are, it makes it so personal to me.  I live in a college town and also understand how it effects the community.  Be strong, hold to God and each other. You are in my prayers.  Love, Nancy

My mind and body is still in shock over what happen. Its something that could never be forgotten. I’m from a little country town, and we had 3 people that was involved with the shooting, and that is really surprising to me. One was murdered, one was shot in the arm, and one barricaded the door so the gun-man couldn’t come into his classroom. My heart and my prayers goes out to the students and teachers family and friends. RIP Nicole White: Smithfield High School Graduate of 2004 ~Rebecca Peabody

My heart goes out to one and all. The victims, their families, the students and staff of VT shall remain in my thoughts and prayers. Here is a poem that was sent to me when my father passed away that I do return to read every so often to remind me that our loved ones are still with us.

Do Not Stand At My Grave And Weep
by Mary Frye

Do not stand at my grave and weep,
I am not there, I do not sleep.
I am in a thousand winds that blow,
I am the softly falling snow.
I am the gentle showers of rain,
I am the fields of ripening grain.
I am in the morning hush,
I am in the graceful rush
Of beautiful birds in circling flight,
I am the starshine of the night.
I am in the flowers that bloom,
I am in a quiet room.
I am in the birds that sing,
I am in each lovely thing.
Do not stand at my grave and cry,
I am not there. I do not die.

How sweet the sound in times of grief the song of grace can be! For God has promised good to us in love’s eternity....And though our hearts cry out for those whose days on earth are done, we’ll meet where God’s eternal praise has always “just begun”.  My thoughts and prayers are with all of you during this horrible time.  Sharon Eselhorst

My heart goes out to all the families of those who died on 4/16, to all the students and faculty and staff at Virginia Tech.  You have my deepest sympathies and remain in my prayers and thoughts.  The most tragic event that I remember from my university days (1963-68)was the shooting and death of President John F. Kennedy.  We felt a big loss then and mourned from a bright star who had been taken from us.  To have this kind of thing take place on your “hallowed grounds” and take from you so many young lives is undescribable.  Eventually you will heal and move on with your own lives.  Remember the beauty and courage and values and ideals of those who were taken from you on 4/16.  Their spirits will live on through you forever.  God Bless you all!

Life is so precious and we move about our days just trying to obtain a daily goal.  My sister passed away unexpectedly 5 weeks ago and all I can offer is that when I cry now, I smile.  The hardest part for me was that she didn’t know she was going to die that day. But, the memories of our loved ones will be what helps us through as well as the support of friends, families and people we may not even know.  You will hear stories of your loved ones that will encourage you and confirm your love.

TO the friends of the families who lost loved ones: Don’t forget—continue to pray, call, write and keep in touch....this will be a blessing as the days move forward. In love and peace, Deanna Myers

To: All
All of us in one way or another can relate to the sorrow that has hit from one part of the world to other parts.

The hardest thing for the students right now is going forth for the next three weeks of school.
I will not give details of each child’s foot prints as they walk to class. But I personally think this…
Each one of these students made a difference in your lives. Each one left you with love…
As you try so hard to bare the pain, you walk the walk to class and fnish what you must for them. Honor them with your love and do it with honor to them this year.
They all that have left us, each student and each parent and each college teacher, and us that never knew them, walk to class and finish all you can of this year in honor that they were in your lives. Each one made a differences, and they always will.
I watch the news as I go to work and come home and think of my kids that are now out of college..
No, I can not feel each one of your pains but I can give in a email of words love each day to you and keep it coming your way…
there is no greater bond n the world than people brought together in love, and healing.

It’s not uncommon to look into the international column of the daily papers to find tragedies across its pages. But to read about a painful episode like this stirred me not only to my tears, sorrow, question, and a quiet sadness deep in my soul.

Far across the pacific ocean, in Malaysia where i stay, i want to tell you that i too grieve with you, and i too, perhaps question the same thing that grills your mind and exhausts your spirit.

I don’t dare to ask God about His intentions, but i pray, i pray and i pray that He will ultimately be your strength, and your comfort.

May His Love minister to you, in Jesus’ Name,
Amen.

Do not stand at my grave and weep
I am not there; I do not sleep.
I am a thousand winds that blow,
I am the diamond glints on snow,
I am the sun on ripened grain,
I am the gentle autumn rain.
When you awaken in the morning’s hush
I am the swift uplifting rush
Of quiet birds in circling flight.
I am the soft starlight at night.
Do not stand at my grave and cry,
I am not there; I did not die.

My mother gave me a copy of this when my daughter died. It brought me comfort and eventually peace.
I hope it does the same for everyone touched by this tragedy. Peace be with you all. My heart aches for your loss.

As a fellow student, although be it from a different University, I can’t even imagine to feel what you all are going through, but rest assured that God will guide and help us all through this time of sorrow for those who lost loved ones, and this time of utter chaos as the press once again turns tragedy into a media circus. CBS, NBC, ABC, FOX, and all concerned...enough already. do we really need to see the animal respomsible for this act of cowardice spewing forth his hate filled dialouge.
