Dear Hokie family…

I have been to your school and your beloved town several times over the past few years visiting my sister.  I’ve never felt such a feeling of community as I have in Blacksburg.  My heart goes out to you during this time.  You’re in my thoughts and prayers.  Without a doubt, I know that Hokie Pride will prevail and VT will be a source of strength for our nation, as we try to make sense of something so senseless.  GO HOKIES!

Here in france, many people are deeply shocked about the sad events which occured. And what is worse is that your president, who received much money from the national rifle association, felt no shame on the commemorations. Its true that american society is really sick with 250 million guns roaming around, and these serial murderers roaming on your streets.be afraid of yourselves instead of trying to impose the model of ur sick society on the rest of the world.

A Parable of Immortality by Henry Van Dyke

“I am standing upon the seashore.  A ship at my side spreads her white sails to the morning breeze and starts for the ocean.  She is an object of beauty and strength, and I watch until at last she hangs like a speck of white cloud just where the sun and sky come down to mingle.  Then someone says, ‘There she goes!’

“Gone where?  Gone from my sight--that is all.  She is just as large in mast and hull and spar as she was when she left my side and just as able to bear her load of living freight to their destination.  Her diminished size is in me, not in her.

And just at the moment when someone at my side says ‘There she goes!’ Other eyes watch her coming and other voices take up the shout, “Here she comes!”

Our hearts are broken for the pain you are suffering.  Please rest in the love and faith that is surrounding you.  We will pray for you while you are too weary to. Please take care of yourselves and your beautiful community.  You are a shining example of what is good in the world.

I have 2 younger children and I can’t begin to imagine the pain and sorrow that you are going through.  Please know that the entire world is in mourning with you.  We must teach our children that turning to a teacher or authority if someone seems “dark” or harmful is not a bad thing-they are infact doing a heroic thing because you never know what events might be prevented even if years later.  Know that your loved ones will always be in your hearts.

As a Virginia native, I did not attend Virginia Tech, but was a huge fan of your sports teams for many years. I was a member of Lee-Davis’ marching band and will never forget the spirited performance your Marching Hokies gave at a competition at my high school a few years ago...they are great people.

I received a phone call Monday morning from my mother about the unfolding horror on Tech’s campus. I immediately connected to WRVA’s audio stream and was glued to it all day, while at work.

I cannot express the deep sorrow I feel for the innocent people who lost their lives as they struggled to make a better future for themselves.

To the survivors of April 16, you are all in my thoughts and prayers. There is are so many people in my area of Virginia that’s connected in some way to a Hokie, we are all feeling pain and sympathy for all of you. We can only pray and hope that we will grow closer to each other and to God and gain wisdom through this tragedy.

You have our hearts. We love you. God bless.

I am a Kindergarten teacher and was home on Monday with my sick child.  I was absolutely sickened when the news of these shootings came across the screen.  I am devastated for your students, faculty and the friends and family of each innocent life that was so tragically taken.  I will keep you in my thoughts and prayers.  My elementary school teachers here in Kentucky will be wearing maroon and orange tomorrow to participate in the “Orange and Maroon” effect.  May the Lord give you strength and comfort during this difficult time.

Psalm 23
The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want.

He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me beside the still waters.

He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name’s sake.

Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me.

Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over.

Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the Lord for ever.

God bless each and every student, faculty, community and family - The words of this centering song seem to speak to the presence of the good that is seen in the students and professionals at this great university:  1977 hymn by Lanny Wolfe:
‘Surely the Presence of the Lord Is In This Place’
Surely the presence of the Lord is in this place; I can feel His mighty power and His grace.
I can hear the brush of angel’s wings, I see glory on each face;
Surely the presence of the Lord is in this place.

I am so deeply sorry for the pain, loss and fear that this has placed in all of your lives.  My church and I are in continuous prayer over your lives, family, friends and your community.  While I lived in Virginia for a year and a half I attended school with one of the victims.  He was always smiling.  May God keep you and give you the peace that only He can bring.

VT,
My thoughts & prayers have been with everyone involved with this terrible tragedy since I first heard of it. The dead, the wounded, all the families & friends, the police, the emergency & hospital personnel, all the school administration,& anyone I’m forgetting to mention. I pray for everyone to step back & remember to not point fingers & make accusations & second guess how things happened. Please focus on those beautiful faces & wonderful lives I hear about on the news & thank God for the lives they had & for those that did survive. As I read through all these posts someone asks why God would let this happen. I have no answer but when I see people sending condolences from all over the world & some in their native languages & someone from Korea writes & asks for understanding,I know THAT is what LOVE is all about & unfortunately it takes terrible events like this to make us all say we love our fellow man. As a final thought, hold each other tighter than you ever have, tell each other every day how much you love each other,& face the future with your heads held high Virginia Tech! THE WORLD LOVES & SUPPORTS YOU!
