A POEM TO EASE THE MIND AND HEART

LETTING GO

SOMETIMES WE BECOME ATTACHED AND CAN’T LET GO
FOR WE LOVE SO MUCH THOSE THAT WE KNOW
ALIVENESS IS FELT IN PURE THOUGHT
WHEN ALL ELSE FADES
SOMETIMES A MEMORY IS ALL THAT WE GOT

NOTHING ON THE PHYSICAL PLANE LASTS FOREVER
BUT THOUGHTS KEEP FLOWING
MEMORIES KEEP YEARNING
JUST AS THE HEART
LOVES WHO AND WHAT IT KNOWS

STAY IN GRATITUDE
FOR ALL THAT YOU CAN BE, DO AND HAVE
ENJOY THIS LIFE AND REMEMBER
LOVE IS THE ETERNAL LINK

ETERNAL HEAVEN AWAITS WITH NO AGENDA
FOR ALL OF THOSE WHO FADE FROM FORM TO MEMORY

WEEP TO CLEANSE YOUR BITTER MIND
ANN SOON YOUR SOUL WILL MAKE YOU FINE

NAMESTE (A SANSKRIT GREETING OF PEACE)

THE LIGHT WITHIN ME , RECOGNIZES, BOWS AND HONORS THE LIGHT WITHIN YOU AND TOGEATHER WE ARE ONE WITH THE LIGHT.

My thoughts and prayers are with the victims, their families, and friends, and with all of the faculty, student body, and VT community.  My first husband and I lived in Blacksburg while he attended and graduated from VT in 1984 (Ag. Econ.) and it breaks my heart to know that this tragic event has disturbed the peace and beauty of the town and campus!  God is good and knows things that we cannot fathom, but the senseless and horror of this one young man’s acts of violence are hard to understand!  May God bless each of those involved.  YES, we are all Hokies today!  Rhonda Nash-Hall (Rustburg Middle School 6th grade teacher)

During these past days I have been following this terrible story, and I am so sorry and sad , even in shock.  I am from Puerto Rico, and work at the University of Puerto Rico; I look at the beautiful faces and diversity of students too. I just knew yesterday that we lost one puertorrican student during that attack at VT.  Puerto Rico is an Island that feel the sadness when at least one life is lost.  Here there are many lives lost...heartbreaking.  My condolences to all the families and friends.  I am embracing all from here.

I would like to thank the world for their warmest, heartfelt, and overwhelming support through these difficult times.

“My fingers touch upon my lips
It’s a morning yearning
It’s a morning yearning
Pull the curtains shut try to keep it dark
But the sun is burning
The sun is burning

The world awakens on the run
And we’ll soon be earning
We’ll soon be earning
With hopes of better days to come
That’s a morning yearning
Morning yearning

Morning yearning…

Another day another chance to get it right
Must I still be learning?
Must I still be learning?
Baby crying kept us up all night
With her morning yearning
With her morning yearning

Morning yearning…

Like a summer rose I’m a victim of the fall
But am soon returning
Soon returning
You’re love’s the warmest place the sun ever shines
My morning yearning
My morning yearning

Morning yearning…”

Three days since the shootings and I am only now able to pull myself from shock and start shedding tears for what has happened in my home town. The town and the college were so integral to my survival of adolescence. Tech was always a place were I felt I could express any thought and was an additional home for me when I needed a refuge from abuse. Now my memories are overwritten with the pointless bloodshed. We as people can never prevent one individual’s horrific acts against others or themselves, that is a personal responsibility of living in a society. However, we can, as individuals, choose not to allow those acts to destroy our own light. We can touch each other for comfort; we can create art, music, literature to cope and provide hope; we can love; we can live!

The conduct of the Va Tech students in the face of this tragedy has been exemplary.  As these young people begin to take over leadership roles in our society, whether in the business community, the sciences or politics, I am confident those of us that came before are in good hands.

While I think these acts are random, even across the world, God chooses his people of faith and strength to shine through tragedy.  Those who obtain their heritage by great labour, understanding their place in time and its impact on future generations, demonstrate God’s Glory and Strength to others in the face of great evil.

No where have I seen the Hokie spirit better demonstrated than in the students during this tragedy.  They are focused not on themselves, but on others, blaming no one, showing no anger, yes, remorse and sorrow but not anger.  Maybe the world will finally learn what a Hokie is.

They give me hope!

To the students, teachers, and staff at VA Tech -
My deepest sympathies to all of you. I know that this time for you is difficult and trying, and I hope that you know that you are not alone. We will never forget those lost to us, nor their families and friends, nor anyone else so affected by this senseless tragedy. You are all in our prayers. God bless.

I can’t even imaginge what it must be like for anyone involved in this senseless tragedy. The world has lost in one fell sweep too many young people who would have brought so much to the world, and too many teachers that had still so much to teach.

My deepest sympathies to all students and staff as well as families and friends who have lost a part of themselves that day.

Your friends up north are thinking of you.

This tragedy has affected everyone in the Virginia Tech family so deeply.  I would like to offer my sincere condolences to the families of the deceased, and I’m so very sorry for your loss.  I am a 2005 Alum and VT means so much to me, it is a part of who I am, like so many others.  Though I know the days ahead will be very difficult for the families, students and the University, in the words of Nikki Giovanni “WE ARE VIRGINIA TECH,” and in time healing will come.  Now, more than ever, I’m proud to say I AM A HOKIE.
