The following will appear in the weekly newsletter of my local parish church on Sunday:

Please remember in your prayers the families of the 32 students at Virginia Tech, in the hope that they can find peace in their grief. Think also of the remaining students, and their struggles to come to terms with the loss of their colleagues. Look for God’s hand coming into this situation.

I pray that it does........very soon.

A person with an illness can inflict so much damage on another person without ever hurting them physically; until they do, they will never be held accountable. I hope Virginia Law Makers will make changes to honor the students killed in this awful tragedy. The public (Friends, Family, and Peers) have no rights to protect themselves from people who they know are a real danger. Many people with mental illness hide their illness from authority to be left alone. Virginia’s mental health laws ruin lives.

Being the parents of a MSE grad and HIGHTY-TIGHTY we have visited the VT campus dozens of times. Our first football experience cannot be put into words when the team came out to Enter Sandman. But most of all at the end of our first the parents weekend we found that the faculty, staff, students and parents were more than just fellow HOKIES they were FAMILY.
My wife and I cry uncontrollably at times over the loss of the 32 bright lights of life that no longer shine in the HOKIE NATION, our hearts and our extended family.  We offer our deepest sympathy and prayers to the family and friends may GOD BLESS THEM AND KEEP THEM ALL.  Please also offer your prayers up to the Seung-Hui family; they must be truly devastated by the turn of events of their son.

NEVER EVER FORGET ONCE A HOKIE ALWAYS A HOKIE - YOU ARE VIRGINIA TECH

We know the 32 of them are leading GOD the ANGLES and SAINTS and everyone in
LETS GO HOKIES ….. LETS GO HOKIES …..

Words cannot adequately express the grief I feel over the events of April 16, 2007.  As the wife of a Hokie and the mother of two Hokies, I have loved and cherished Virginia Tech for decades. My sons have professors and friends among the deceased and the wounded. I want to express my sympathy to my brothers and sisters in the Hokie Nation. I hold you in my heart and hope that your healing will begin soon.  I also want to say that I am so very proud of the dignity you have shown through this ordeal.  You have clearly demonstrated the Hokie ethic, pride, and spirit to the entire nation and the world.

I would like to take this oppportunity to share my deepest condolences to everyone affected by this tragedy. As I continually watch the coverage I am struck by all of the student interviews. One interview after another the students are bright, composed, & philosophical when talking about this tragedy. They are united & all share a sense of pride in Virginia Tech & pride in their relationships with each other. Although this coward attempted to break their spirit, he wasn’t able to, he failed. The hate & rage that was bestowed upon everyone was extinguished immediately through the love & dignity of Virginia Tech & the support from the world. God bless.

Good shall always triumph over evil and surely something good will come of this.  It makes no sense to us now, but God knows why.  Please comfort yourselves in knowing that all of those who were sacraficed are in a place that is far better and if they had the choice they would not return here.  God bless you all.

I married a Hokie in 1995 and have been treated like a VT alum ever since.  Your will is strong.  Your pride runs deep.  I am proud to wear the Maroon and Orange and I am proud of the students, faculty and staff who have come together in this time of extreme sorrow. Prayers have been, and will continue to be, said and I am very saddened at the moment. Stand tall Hokies.

I said, “God, I hurt.”
And God said, “I know.”

I said, “God, I cry a lot.”
And God said, “That is why I gave you tears.”

I said, “God, I am so depressed.”
And God said,"That is why I gave you Sunshine.”

I said, “God, life is so hard.”
And God said, “That is why I gave you loved ones.”

I said, “God, my loved one died.”
And God said, “so did mine “

I said, “God, it is such a loss.”
And God said, “I saw mine nailed to a cross.”

I said, “God, but your loved one lives.”
And God said, “ So does yours.”

I said, “God, where are they now?”
And God said, “Mine is on My right and yours is in the Light.”

I said, “God, it hurts.”

Life isn’t fair. That’s hard thing to find out,me as a parent feel sad and disappointed when another parent, like you, has to face such a difficult Time. As time goes by, You’ll rise above it.The things that happen around you can’t change the qualities within you- the honesty and courage, the caring, and the certainly that you are a good and worthy person.Hold on to these thoughts until then,God will be the one who’s right by your side all along the way.
God bless you all.

To the Virginia Tech Community

My heart is saddened by this tragic event that will affect so many lives for years to come.  My thoughts and prayers are with the families and friends of those who were senselessly killed.  May their light continue to shine through your memories as you carry them with you in your hearts.  I have been watching the news and must say how impressed I am by the student body at VT.  You are articulate, compassionate young adults and the manner in which you have been conducting yourselves is an example we all should try and emulate.  We may never know why this happened to innocent people, but God has a plan for all of us; is there for us in times of sorrow and pain.  Trust in your faith, your family, your friends and know that millions of people are keeping you close in thought and prayer.  God Bless all of you.
