It is hard to make sense of the tragedy you have endured.  But God, Allah, Dios or whatever you call him in faith, has a plan.  I believe that plan is unfolding itself now, just reading through those who have expressed their sorrow and love for you we find kind words from all walks of life and faith.  Your strength and courage that you have shown in the aftermath, I believe, is God modeling to the world that LOVE is stronger than HATE.  If the world watches they will see how to love their neighbor, how to conduct themselves in a way that honors God’s words. I also believe that those who have commented from all faiths are representing their faith in the way the world needs to see.  God made us one family Monday.....a family without borders, without religious divides, without hostilities.  Hokies you are forever in my heart, thoughts and prayers and may the students of this amazing university go on to become the leaders of tomorrow and make this a better world for all of us.

God Bless you!

To all of the Virginia Tech Family,

My family and I have been deeply saddened and shocked by the horrific events that occured April 16th.  We have you in our prayers day & night.  Noone should ever have to experience a life or death situation like the victims and wounded had to. And the families should not be in mourning right now over such a senseless act. Stay strong.  Stay together. There will be a better day. God Bless All.

TO ALL PARENTS
by Edgar Guest

“I’ll lend you for a little time a child of mine,” He said.
“For you to love the while he lives and mourn when he is dead,
“It may be six or seven years, or twenty-two or three,
“But will you, till I call him back, take care of him for me?

“He’ll bring his charms to gladden you, but should his stay be brief,
“You’ll have his lovely memories, as solace for your grief,
“I cannot promise he will stay, since all from earth return,
“But there are lessons taught down there I want this child to learn.

“I’ve looked the wide world over in my search for teachers true,
“And from the throngs that crowd life’s lanes I have selected you.
“Now will you give him all your love, nor think the labor vain,
“Nor hate me when I come to call to take him back again?

I fancied that I heard them say: “Dear Lord, Thy will be done!
“For all the joy Thy child shall bring, the risk of grief we’ll run.
We’ll shelter him with tenderness; we’ll love him while we may,
And for happiness we’ve known forever grateful stay.

“But should the angels call for him much sooner than we’d planned,
“We’ll brave the bitter grief that comes and try to understand.”

MAY LOVE AND LIFE SHINE UPON YOU!

I am deeply saddened by the tragedy that took place on our beautiful and serene campus. My deepest sympathies go out to the families in mourning and all of the students that witnessed such a horrid incident.
Just remember that time heals all and let’s all celebrate how these victims lived, not how they died. You are all in my prayers.

With a heavy heart and immeasurable respect I share these words.

I found enormous comfort and strength reading all the amazing things people from all walks of life have written among this pages.

The young men and women of VT should be commended as they have shown such grace these last 48 hours.

Our prayers and thoughts are with all the families and friends of those lost on 4/16/07.

Our prayers and thoughts are also with the staff and faculty and resilient VT student body - may they all find their way back to healing as the days go by.

VT YOU ARE NOT ALONE...TODAY WE ARE ALL HOKIES....

God Bless…

To all students, faculty and staff,

I’d like to express my condolences.  I truly do understand what you are feeling.  I am an alumni of the University of Florida.  I was there in 1990 when a serial killer killed 5 students and terrorized the town for days.  It was a terrible feeling and it still is.  This tragedy has stirred my memories and feelings of those terrible days 17 years ago.

For those that survived, know that it will always be a part of your life but you must go on with your life.  There is so much worth living for.  Continue going to school and pursuing your dreams.

For those that lost someone, I am truly sorry.  You have my deepest sympathy.

My thoughts are with you all as you continue to heal.  As we say at the University of Florida, “In all kinds of weather, we all stick together.” Go Hokies!

With love,

Dear Students, loved ones and family members of Virgnia Tech,

I would like to express my deepest sympathy for all of you. I just lost my boyfriend of two years in a terrible car accident a little over a month ago, so while no one truly knows what you are going through, there are people out there who know what it is like to lose loved ones who truly mourn for you as if it were their own best friend, or son. Make sure you reach out in this very sad time, it really does help. and take as much time as you need, there is no time limit on mourning. I am so truly sorry for your loss. All of you will be in my thoughts and prayers.

We are having a candlelight vigil tonight at my school, The Culinary Institute of America, in Hyde Park NY for you.

Family, Friends, Teachers, and Students at Virginia Tech,

Our family cannot describe the sadness we feel for your loss in this senseless tragedy.  Our thoughts and prayers are and will continue to be filled with remembrance of the victims.  May you all love each other and embrace those close to you in a stand against violence.

From Walt Whitman’s “Song of Myself”:

I depart as air . . . I shake my white locks at the runaway sun,
I effuse my flesh in eddies and drift it in lacy jags.

I bequeath myself to the dirt to grow from the grass I love.
If you want me again look for me under your bootsoles.
You will hardly know who I am or what I mean,
But I shall be good health to you nevertheless,
And filter and fibre your blood.

Failing to fetch me at first keep encouraged,
Missing me one place search another,
I stop somewhere waiting for you.

With love,
Dana Dean and Marisa Gonzalez

I first and foremost send my condolences to the VT family.  I sit here at my desk remembering my collegiate days, taken aback by this tragedy that we all have experienced in the past two days.

I was browsing the colleges that have sent sympathy notes to VT.  My Alma Mater, Western Carolina University, in the mountains of North Carolina, has also placed a statement on our website.  Western appears to be so much like VT it is jolting.  Cullowhee and Blacksburg, from the descriptions I have heard, could be mistaken for each other.  Beautiful mountain towns set in the Blue Ridge.  Just this comparison hits home with me knowing that many of my dearest friends, and now colleagues, are there.  It makes you realize how much we take for granted in life, and how all of us need to take more time to embrace each other.  It is the scariest thought in the world to think that life as we know it can be changed so wrecklessly in the blink of an eye.

May God bless the families of those fallen, the community of Blacksburg, and the multi-campus Virginia Tech institution.

As was so appropriately stated in one of the posts from a university, “for now, we are all Hokies.”

As the Dean of Business and Social Sciences at Yuba College in California I would like to express our collective sadness and sorrow to all of you at Virginia Tech.  We cannot imagine the pain and suffering you are enduring at this moment, as parents, siblings, relatives, students, faculty and staff. May you all find peace of mind in the weeks to come.  We share your grief now and mourn with you.  A line from a Gerard Manley Hopkins poem sums up our state of mind: “I wake and feel the fell of dark, not day.”

I have been through many many bad situations in my life, although I’m only 23. Lately I was dealing with an emotional issue, that was hard to overcome, I was sad, afraid of losing hope belief in people. But every time that I have been in such situations, God has given me signs, clues, and quotes through good people. Recently I was told this quote which I’m transcribing, by Alfred de Musset:

“Oh force of time that takes worries and pains away, nothing is left, but as it seems from your mercy, on our dried flowers your foot does not step.”

The flowers are not dry yet, they’re wet, wet of the young blood that was spilled. Right now they hurt, they’re vivid recollections of something that we wish it never happened, but it did. Once the flowers are dry, there will be a time that we wish to forget everything, there will be a time that we wish to just step over the dry garden, but that wouldn’t be fair. Even time, this independent entity will not do it. At this day, we will all remember what happened, we will always go back and look at our dry flowers and they will always be there, reminding us everyday of how precious our lives are and how blessed we are.

May God bless you all.
