As a fellow Hokie (’01) I am deeply saddened and shocked by the horrible tragedy. I have such fond memories of my four years in Blacksburg; it is such a wonderful, tight-knit community and it is so hard to believe that this awful event has happened in what so many of us Hokies call “home”. My thoughts and prayers are with you all, as are all of the Hokie Nation’s.

On behalf of the 10,500 public school teachers and community college faculty and professional support staff who are members of the Nova Scotia Teachers Union, I offer our deepest condolences to the colleagues, friends and families of the victims of the tragic shootings on April 16.

We are particularly saddened by the untimely death of French instructor Jocelyn Couture-Nowak, who lived in Nova Scotia for 17 years, completed her teacher training here and worked tirelessly with other parents to found the first French-language school in the town of Truro. Her work with teachers and parents has left a legacy to our province, and our memories of this exceptional mother, educator and friend make this unimaginable tragedy extremely personal.

Our thoughts and prayers are with the Virginia Tech community.

Sincerely,
Mary-Lou Donnelly

Dear Hokies,

What has occurred is an unspeakable tragedy that is felt by all. I and all my peers at my community college are united in our support of the victims, their families, and all the Hokies and Americans affected by this loss. It is my sincere wish that your pain is eased in these trying days as you cope with this stygian event. The nation stands behind you. During this time, as we stand together united, may we all take refuge and comfort in the words “we shall overcome” – for, as united Americans, we will.

i’ve never met you. i know nothing about VT, but i feel for all of you more than you know. it literally breaks my heart every time i think about what has happened, not only that but how a person could do something like this. everyday the news around the world gets worse and worse.what can we do to stop this. i was sure we all had a soul, how could someone not only think this crazy, but follow thru with those feelings? i dont wish anything bad on anyone, but he should have just taken his own life.he was obviously un-noticed his whole life, sadly this is the way he wanted to be remembered. everything happens for a reason whether good or bad and only time can heal.i wish you all the best and i’m truly sorry for your loss.i’m not a religious person, but i do believe in God. I pray for all of you.let there be PE@CE.with sorrow and love.....Kara Y.

King David said, “Ye, thou I walk through the valley of the shadow...” I’m grateful that he said, “I walk”.  In our collective sorrow, this is not a valley we can ever run through.  Our grief can never be hurried.  We walk and we pray with together one moment at a time, one day at a time…

Tears fill my eyes as I read about the lives of the victims.  Seeing each picture of each face makes me stop and think about each life that was taken so suddenly on Monday morning.  Families grieve.  Friends cry.  Strangers wonder how each family will get through such hard times.  God knows the answer.  God IS the answer.

Stop now and say a prayer for the friends and families of each victim.  Pray for peace in their hearts.  God bless you in your time of great loss.

To All,

I hope this can be of some comfort to those who are truly affected by this tragedy, I pray that you keep God in your corner and are able to overcome any sorrow you may be enduring at this moment.

For everything there is a season,
And a time for every matter under heaven:
A time to be born, and a time to die;
A time to plant, and a time to pluck up what is planted;
A time to kill, and a time to heal;
A time to break down, and a time to build up;
A time to weep, and a time to laugh;
A time to mourn, and a time to dance;
A time to throw away stones, and a time to gather stones together;
A time to embrace, And a time to refrain from embracing;
A time to seek, and a time to lose;
A time to keep, and a time to throw away;
A time to tear, and a time to sew;
A time to keep silence, and a time to speak;
A time to love, and a time to hate,
A time for war, and a time for peace.
